Chapter 848 - I’m Afraid Of Death
Looking at Qu Xuan’s aged and haggard appearance, Su Yang could not help but feel a little sad. ‘Love is indeed the devil that harms people. Regardless of whether a couple gets along well or not, they would lose whatever that defines them as a human...’
Su Yang still remembered that a few months ago, Qu Xuan was as bright and cheerful as the hottest sun in the summer, which made Su Yang envious and jealous of his handsomeness. But now, looking at him...
‘Sigh.
‘What a sad sight.’
Seeing that Su Yang had returned, Pan Zhaodi took the initiative to greet him. She then stood at the side and did not speak anymore.
Qu Xuan looked at Su Yang with a complicated expression and took the initiative to greet him. “President.”
After going through so much in the past two years, Su Yang had matured a lot. Especially since he had just finished his executive meeting today, he had the aura of a superior.
Therefore, he nodded and said calmly, “It’s good to see you here.”
After Su Yang and Qu Xuan greeted each other, his gaze landed on Xue Ya, who was standing beside Qu Xuan.
Seeing Su Yang looking at her, Xue Ya weakly greeted, “Senior.”
Looking at the girl’s haggard appearance, Su Yang sighed in his heart. Then, he nodded his head again and said gently, “I’m more of a shut-in, so I will usually stay on the third floor and not come down. So, you and Qu Xuan can stay on the second or first floor, up to you.
“When the weather is good, the two of you can come out to bask in the sun and take a walk on the lawn. There’ll be three meals a day prepared on the first floor, so you can just come and eat. If you need anything, just tell Sister Zhaodi.”
“She’s my secretary, and we’re all on the same side. You’re a patient now, so don’t be afraid to ask for her help.
“If you guys want to go out on a date, relax, or watch a movie, you could tell Sister Zhaodi as well and she can drive you there.”
Hearing Su Yang’s thoughtful arrangement, Xue Ya revealed a grateful smile and thanked him weakly. “Thank you, Senior. I’m sorry for troubling you.”
Su Yang shook his head. “It’s fine.”
With that, he looked at Pan Zhaodi and instructed, “Sister Zhaodi, why don’t you show Xue Ya around to look at her room first. I have something to discuss with Qu Xuan.”
Pan Zhaodi nodded her head coldly and walked up to support Xue Ya.
Xue Ya looked at Qu Xuan, who gave her a reassuring look before leaving with Pan Zhaodi.
After she left, Su Yang said to Qu Xuan, “She’s very reliant on you.”
Qu Xuan smiled, revealing a rare hint of his previous shamelessness. “Of course. No girl can resist me.”
Unfortunately, his familiar words, coupled with his stubble beard, did not have the air of a playboy at all. Instead, he looked like a middle-aged man who had been a gigolo for many years and had suffered many injuries...
Su Yang patted his shoulder sympathetically and said, “Follow me.”
Su Yang brought Qu Xuan to his study room on the third floor.
Su Yang sat behind the chair in the study room and pointed to the chair in front of him. “Have a seat. Is there anything you want to drink?”
Qu Xuan said, “Coffee. I’ve been using it to refresh myself recently.”
Su Yang took a look and said, “Haven’t got it.”
Qu Xuan asked, “Then what do you have here?”
Su Yang looked at his wine cabinet again. He realized that he did not prepare anything because he did not spend much time outside, so he said, “Seems like I only have mineral water. Here you go.”
Su Yang turned on the water dispenser and passed a glass of mineral water to Qu Xuan.
Qu Xuan was speechless.
If it were Qu Xuan in the past, he would most likely ask, “Since you don’t have it, then why are you even asking?!” However, Qu Xuan no longer cared about these things, so he calmly took the cup and took a sip.
After drinking, he commented, “It’s a little cold.”
Su Yang smiled. “I’ll heat it up for you next time.”
Qu Xuan said, “Thank you.”
Su Yang looked at him and sat on his chair. Then, he said emotionally, “You’ve really matured a lot now.”
Qu Xuan did not deny it. “If I still haven’t matured after experiencing so many things, then I’ll probably never grow up for the rest of my life.”
Su Yang nodded.
‘Qu Xuan’s past half a year has indeed been magical.’
Qu Xuan finished his water and sized up the study room before asking, “President, you said on the phone that you can save Xiaoya, right?”
Upon hearing that, Su Yang hesitated for a moment before saying, “I could in the past, but I can’t do it now.”
Qu Xuan frowned deeply and asked, “If I told you about Xiaoya a few months ago, could you have saved her?”
Su Yang understood what Qu Xuan meant. He shook his head. “I used it because of an emergency. Based on the chronology of events, it should have happened before you found out about Xue Ya’s condition. So...”
Qu Xuan asked curiously, “When did you know about Xue Ya’s condition?”
Su Yang did not say anything. There was a faint smile on his face.
Qu Xuan stopped asking. He knew that Su Yang must have found out long ago.
Su Yang added, “I’ll lend you some money so that you can resolve your current issues at least.”
Qu Xuan understood.
The room fell into silence.
After a while, Qu Xuan took a sip of water and asked again, “President, what did you mean when you said that even if you can’t save her, we can be together forever?”
Su Yang tapped his fingers on the table. One, two, three. He hesitated for a moment before saying, “You’ll know in the future.
“If you trust me, don’t ask about it.”
Qu Xuan looked at Su Yang for a while before nodding his head seriously.
Seeing that Qu Xuan nodded, Su Yang told him the reason why he called Qu Xuan over. “Tonight, I will get the doctor to check on Xue Ya’s condition. Prepare her medical records and reports that she got from the hospital when the time comes.”
Qu Xuan nodded.
Perhaps it was because of Xue Ya’s illness that Qu Xuan had changed a lot, so the two of them, who could not stop talking whenever they were together, did not seem to have much to talk about this time.
In the past, whenever they chatted, Su Yang would always feel that Qu Xuan was a little noisy and wanted to end the conversation as soon as possible. However, this time, the two of them had been silent for a total of seven to eight times during their 10-minute chat, making the atmosphere awkward.
In the end, Su Yang felt that there was no point in continuing the conversation, so he ended it.
Qu Xuan thanked Su Yang politely before leaving the study room to look for Xue Ya.
Looking at his slightly hunched back, Su Yang sighed again.
‘Disease really knocks someone down sometimes, and it’s not just the patients...’.
That night, Sanque arrived at the villa and turned into a doctor to check on Xue Ya’s condition.
With special abilities and the series of medical reports and medical records given by Qu Xuan, Sanque gained a complete understanding of Xue Ya’s condition.
After the inspection, Su Yang returned to the virtual space and summoned Sanque to ask about her situation.
Sanque was serious the whole time, and his expression was grave. Obviously, Xue Ya’s condition was not looking good.
This was indeed the case. With Sanque’s examination, it was discovered that Xue Ya’s main problem was not her cancer, but her body’s deficiency. According to his examination, every cell in Xue Ya’s body was dead, and she was severely lacking in protein. This was all caused by radiation and chemotherapy.
In other words... What Qu Xuan said about the treatment reducing Xue Ya’s lifespan was actually true.
The cancer cells in Xue Ya’s body had already decreased, but due to the spread, she was covered from head to toe. Using modern medical methods to remove the cancer cells had been too difficult on her.
This was especially so since Xue Ya’s cancer did not have the corresponding targeting drug.
After listening to Sanque’s explanation, Su Yang had a rough idea of Xue Ya’s condition. He asked, “How many ginseng roots do we need to save her?”
Sanque closed his eyes and thought for a while. Then he said, “She has two big problems now. One is her cancer cells, and the other is her body’s deficiency. So, even if she eats all of me, it still won’t be enough.”
Su Yang fell silent.
In fact, Su Yang would not do such a thing even if it worked. However, if she could not even be saved with Sanque, this would show just how serious Xue Ya’s situation was.
Right now, Su Yang only had the [Photosynthistic Treant, whose healing abilities were better than “Sanque entirely”.]
Su Yang calculated the time. ‘According to the cooldown time of the [Photosynthistic Treant], I should be able to have more of it in seven months.
‘With this ability, Xue Ya’s illness would definitely be cured. After all, half of her body is gone like the Clown Sea Serpent previously. If this ability could cure him, then Xue Ya’s condition shouldn’t be a problem.’
Therefore, he asked again, “If we give her ginseng roots regularly, can she last until the end of the year?”
Sanque thought for a while and slowly shook his head. “The possibility is not high, close to 0%.”
At this point, Sanque pondered for a moment and gave an ultimatum. “10 days. She can only live for 10 days at most.”
Su Yang was shocked.
Sanque explained, “For patients with this kind of illness, the doctor agreeing to have her discharged is actually equivalent to telling her that this is her last moments.”
Su Yang was speechless.
Su Yang rubbed his temples. He had a headache. He felt that he might have to make the final decision...
At the same time, on the second floor of Su Yang’s new villa, Xue Ya and Qu Xuan were lying on the bed, hugging and chatting.
Xue Ya buried her head in Qu Xuan’s arms and said weakly, “Xuan, I’m a little scared...”
Hugging her frail body, Qu Xuan asked softly, “What are you afraid of?”
Tears leaked from the corner of Xue Ya’s eyes. “I’m afraid of death. I don’t want to die...”
Hearing this, Qu Xuan fell silent.
‘Death...
‘Who wouldn’t be afraid of it?
‘The thought that I would just stop thinking, that everything in this world would have nothing to do with me anymore, that I won’t be able to feel, see, or hear anything... Who wouldn’t be afraid of that?’
Especially when he realized that he could not even think, and no longer had a “consciousness”, which was the scariest thing in the world.
However, facing the person he loved, Qu Xuan could not speak his thoughts. He smiled and consoled, “Don’t worry. You won’t die. The president will cure you.”
Hearing Qu Xuan’s words, Xue Ya fell silent for a while before saying, “Actually, we all know that it’s hopeless for me now, right?
“From the look on you and Xiaoying’s faces whenever you look at me, I know my body was deteriorating.
“Plus, I can feel it. My body is getting weaker day by day. Every night, I would break out in cold sweat from the pain, and I can’t sleep.
“At first, I only needed to take one painkiller, but now, not even three pills would work. Every night, the nurse would have to inject me with a dose of painkillers.
“And now... Even that doesn’t work anymore.”
At this point, two streams of tears rolled down Xue Ya’s cheeks. “I’m in so much pain right now. I can only fall asleep at 1am or 2am every day, and I’ll wake up at 3am or 4am. After I wake up from the pain, I’ll go to the toilet and hug myself to endure the pain while crying softly just so that I don’t wake you up.
“I feel like I’m really doomed.
“Maybe a month, maybe a week or two, maybe tomorrow, or even the day after that. That’s going to be it for me.
“I’m so scared...
“I really don’t want to die...
“But it really hurts.”
Hugging Xue Ya, Qu Xuan’s body trembled slightly as tears silently flowed down his face. He did not know what to say. He knew Xue Ya’s pain and heartache, but he really did not know what to do...
‘Why am I so powerless in the face of her illness?’
As Xue Ya cried, she continued, “You said that Senior could save me. To be honest, I don’t believe you. I know my physical condition, no one can save me now.
“He has created many miracles, but he really can’t cure me.”
Qu Xuan tried his best to keep his voice steady as he said, “The president said to trust him, that even if he can’t save you, he has a way to make you and I stay together forever.”
Xue Ya shook her head as she cried. “Does he want to send you down to accompany me?”
Qu Xuan was speechless.
Actually, when Su Yang said that earlier, Qu Xuan’s first reaction was the same. However, he believed that Su Yang wouldn’t think that way. Su Yang wasn’t a pervert who would kill a couple out of boredom and have them become a dead couple...
Therefore, he felt that Su Yang must have come up with something special.
Xue Ya sighed and said, “Actually, I’m quite grateful to you. Now, besides Xiaoying, I haven’t even have any family or friends. You’ve spent all your money on my medical treatment.
“They say I’m going to be discharged from the hospital to enjoy the company, but in reality, we don’t even have a place to go. In my current state, the hotel probably won’t even let me stay, afraid of my bad luck. If I accidentally die at their place, they won’t be able to do business anymore.”
“That’s why Senior was willing to bring us here. He’s a really good person.
“I think he saw that too, so he pretended to say he was going to treat me.”
Hearing Xue Ya’s analysis, Qu Xuan fell silent for a while. Although he did not want to believe it, he felt that this might be the most logical explanation...
After all, compared to curing cancer and giving Xue Ya a new life, perhaps taking in the two of them and letting Xue Ya leave this world with dignity was more realistic...
Qu Xuan nodded. “You do have a point.”
Xue Ya smiled, and there was a hint of blood on her pale face. “Senior has good intentions, but we can’t cause him trouble. When I feel like I’m dying, let’s leave this place.
“This is such a big house. If someone died, it would be worthless...”
