Mr. Shen waved his hand. “No, I just had 2 casual drinks.”
The middle-aged woman said, “You’re not supposed to drink with that condition of yours. Have you forgotten?”
Mr. Shen was obviously a little impatient. “What’s wrong with a few men drinking a few glasses of wine?”
His tone was slightly harsh. Therefore, the middle-aged woman could not be bothered to continue the conversation, hence she snorted and left.
Mr. Shen looked at the woman’s back and sighed. ‘I supposed I did raise my temper quite a bit.
‘However, we’ve been married for so many years, so we should know each other’s temper. I can’t be bothered to coax her now.’
Just when Mr. Shen thought he had made his wife go away after scolding her, the middle-aged woman came back with a glass of honey water.
The woman placed the honey water heavily on the table and scolded, “Kindness is considered to be an ill intention”. Then she turned to leave.
Although the woman’s words were unpleasant, Mr. Shen felt a warmth in her heart.
The expression on his face became much gentler. He stood up and pulled his wife into his arms. Then, he said, “I’ve been in a bad mood recently. Please forgive me.”
The middle-aged woman obviously did not forgive him, and she said angrily, “How is it because of your recent bad mood? When have you been in a good mood over these past few years? I’m telling you not to go out and brag every day. Do something practical for once, would you?”
Mr. Shen helplessly said, “It’s not that easy as you think. I’m currently in the situation where I should just avoid trouble wherever I can. You know about that incident as well...”
At the mention of that, the woman’s gaze softened. She sighed. “Still, you shouldn’t go around drinking with other people every day and not help them do something about it. Otherwise, aren’t you just ruining your reputation?”
After saying that, she asked again, “Which company were you meeting with today? Can’t you get some sales from it?”
At the mention of sales, Mr. Shen shook his head repeatedly. “No. The loan they are trying to ask for is too troublesome. I don’t want to do it.”
If this was in the past, the woman might not have continued to ask further.
However, for some reason, when she saw her husband’s dejected look that night, she suddenly had a feeling that she should be expecting better from him. She wanted to properly educate her husband.
She pulled Mr. Shen to sit down and said earnestly, “Every job is troublesome, is there a job that isn’t?”
Mr. Shen did not say anything.
The woman continued, “Nothing will ever go as we planned, is it not? As long as we play by the rules, run more risk assessments and chat more with Old Zhao, the matter might just be settled.”
After hearing what the woman said, Mr. Shen sighed. “It’s easy to lend out the amount they want, but it’s going to be hard to retrieve the money later. If we give him the money and he runs away like that person, what am I supposed to do?”
The woman asked, “Does the other party have a very bad reputation?”
Mr. Shen shook her head. “Not really.”
The woman asked, “Does the other party not have any collateral?”
Mr. Shen hesitated for a moment. “Not exactly.”
The woman asked, “Then what’s the problem?”
Mr. Shen wanted to explain, but felt a little frustrated. In the end, he sighed and said, “Anyway, it’s a very troublesome case. Let’s not bother about it.”
The woman raised her eyebrows and said unhappily, “Old Shen, I feel like you’ve been defeated ever since that incident happened. It’s just a bad debt. Which bank does not have any bad debt? You’ve only failed once and you’re already dispirited?”
“You’re like a coward now. Can’t you pull yourself together? I’m telling you, failure isn’t scary. What’s scary is that you think you’ve failed...”
If Mr. Shen could be said to have been speaking calmly previously, he was now really angry. He slammed the bed and interrupted the woman. “If you don’t understand, then stop spouting nonsense! Also, stop reading those nonsensical articles you see. Those are all lies to fool idiots like you!”
His wife’s temper rose when her husband raised his voice. “That’s right! We’re the idiots and you’re not! Look at what you’ve been doing for the past few years!”
With that, the middle-aged woman stood up and left.
A moment later, the sound of the door slamming could be heard. Mr. Shen knew that he could only sleep in the second bedroom that night.
However, he had already been married for more than ten years, so he did not mind this. Sometimes, he felt that sleeping alone was quite good.
Occasionally, even if he got off work early since he did not have any drinking sessions, he would sit downstairs and smoke a stick of cigarette and sit there for half an hour before going back home. That was considered to be a private space for middle-aged men.
Mr. Shen didn’t care about his wife’s temper. Moreover, he merely took out a blanket from under the bed without getting a shower. Then, he took out a blanket from under the bed of the second bedroom before he laid on it. He was hoping to fall asleep quickly while he was still drunk.
As he grew older, he felt his sleep quality was worsening.
Sometimes, he would lie in bed for hours without sleep. He would even suffer from insomnia until dawn.
However, after drinking alcohol, he was able to sleep well ironically.
Hence, this was one of the reasons why he liked to drink.
However, it was a very strange night that day. He laid in bed with his eyes closed, but Mr. Shen could not fall asleep at all. His mind was filled with his wife’s words. ‘Every job is troublesome, is there a job that isn’t?
‘As long as we play by the rules, run more risk assessments and chat more with Old Zhao, the matter might just be settled.
‘You’re dispirited after just failing once?’
For some reason, the words that he normally would not be able to listen to kept ringing in his ears that night.
Mr. Shen tossed and turned in bed, unable to fall asleep. The words that his wife said to him kept replaying in his mind. He thought about how Su Yang and Wang Dong would toast him.
Just like that... the night passed.
However, that night, he was able to clearly think about a lot of things. ‘I’m already in my forties and the golden age of my career is almost over. So what’s wrong with me living my life?
‘I’m just going to live my life.
‘In any case, I have certain authority and I also have some special treatment. Hence, I don’t need to worry about my daily necessities.
‘I could just sit back and wait for my retirement to come.
‘Loans are too important, it’ll turn into bad debts if we’re not careful. Plus, it’s also possible for our superiors to make us the scapegoat to take the fall for them.’
After thinking it through, Mr. Shen felt extremely relaxed. ‘Humans are supposed to live a carefree life.
‘As for the bragging during the drinking sessions, whoever that believes it is an idiot.’
The next day at work, Mr. Shen was called to the office by the director the moment he arrived.
When they arrived at the director’s office, Mr. Shen knocked on the door. “Director Zhao, were you looking for me.”
The director’s voice could be heard from behind the door. “Mr. Shen, come in.”
When he arrived at the director’s office, Mr. Shen bowed and greeted him. The director slammed a report on the table and said without looking up, “Take a look at this.” Then, he lowered his head and continued writing.
Mr. Shen’s heart skipped a beat.
He walked forward cautiously and picked up the report to take a look. Then his heart sank because it was the sales report of the whole department with his group being one of the last ones.
Mr. Shen wiped the cold sweat off his forehead and looked at the director behind the table with a flattering smile.
The director ignored him and continued writing.
The director wrote for about 10 minutes before he looked up at Mr. Shen and asked calmly, “Have you finished looking at it?”
Mr. Shen quickly nodded. “Yes. I’m done.”
The director tapped his pen on the table. “Put it back on the table.”
Mr. Shen quickly bowed as he placed the document back on the table.
The director continued to write with his head lowered. After a while, he waved his hand. “Go back and have a good think about it.”
He lowered his head and left the director’s office before returning to his desk.
He looked at the employees who were idling around, and when he thought about the shocking numbers that he had seen earlier, his heart was filled with sadness.
Generally speaking, the capabilities of a leader would be reflected on his subordinates. Therefore, since Mr. Shen was not an ambitious man, his subordinates would not be ambitious men either.
In the past, he did not think much of it. After all, he did not even want to improve himself, so he could not expect his subordinates to improve themselves. After all, he was still a man with a “bottom line”.
However... now...
Although the director did not say anything, the pressure that he was under could be described as though he could be transferred to another department that had bad treatment at any time. The pressure was so great that he felt suffocated.
A few years ago, he had given a company a loan because he felt that the company was reliable and was operating well. Even though the mortgage was not sufficient, he still went to the risk analysis department and Director Zhao to apply for the loan, all for the sake of achieving his sales target.
In the end, that company took the money and ran away, causing it to become bad debt in the end.
Once that happened, his leader began investigating to find out the person responsible for that mess. In the end, he had to shoulder all the responsibility after Director Zhao hinted for him to do so.
After that, there was no more hope for him to receive a promotion and he was also prepared to leave as he despaired. However, with Director Zhao’s effort, he managed to keep his position.
Because the bank’s welfare was good, especially the credit sector, he could not bear to leave either.
However, it was also because of this incident that he lost his passion for his work. In the past few years, unless it was a good project that came knocking on his door, he would reject the jobs whenever he could.
Director Zhao seemed to remember his “loyalty” back then, so he did not say anything. Mr. Shen had also received the treatment and benefits that he deserved.
However, from the looks of his current situation... his favors were almost used up.
The chair creaked as Mr. Shen sat heavily on the chair. He covered his face with his scrawny hands and sighed.
‘Right now, I can only hope to successfully get the loans of some good projects approved as soon as possible to increase my sales.
‘However, it isn’t that easy to lend money within a short period of time...
‘This isn’t an easy gap to close.’
Just as he was worried, he suddenly recalled the drinking session last night with Su Yang...
His eyes lit up. ‘Why not... I trick Su Yang into using Jia Dian Technology as collateral?
‘After all, Jia Dian Technology is a high-quality asset. I believe that as long as he reported it, it would be approved.
‘On one hand, I would have a good project that would improve my sales performance.
‘On the other, Su Yang could get his loan approved. It’s the best of both worlds!’
Mr. Shen quickly gave Su Yang a call.
When Su Yang received the call, he was playing games in his office.
He put down his game and picked up the phone. “Hello? Mr. Shen.”
Mr. Shen said, “Mr. Su, it’s me. I thought about it when I went back. I could lend you 50 million within a short period of time, but... we’ll need to change the mortgage.”
Mr. Shen initially thought that Su Yang would agree.
In the end, Su Yang rejected him outright. “I’m sorry, Mr. Shen. My request is very simple and straightforward. I just want to borrow 50 million yuan using Jiayuan Pictures as collateral. Half a year. There’s nothing else to discuss.”
After that, Su Yang hung up.
Hearing the beeping sound from the phone, Mr. Shen exploded!
‘This guy is just too arrogant! He hung up the phone just like that?! He doesn’t even want to talk?
‘Is this the attitude that one should have when borrowing money?
‘Although it is said that the person borrowing money was in charge, akin to a customer being the King!
‘But you haven’t even successfully borrowed the money yet!
‘Furthermore, even if you managed to borrow the money, you could only pretend to be a boss in front of others!
‘In China, no one has ever dared to act like a boss in the face of a bank!’
At that thought, Mr. Shen blacklisted Su Yang.
He decided to tell Su Yang to p*ss off!
‘Even if I have to jump down from the bank, even if I’m fired by the bank, I would never lend a single cent to Su Yang!
