Chapter 680: The Power-Struggle in the TV Station
Anyone would be willing to listen to gossip, but it definitely had to be at the right place.
Hence, Su Yang did not egg Shasha’s mother into talking about the matter. He knew that the most important thing at that moment was to put on his makeup and prepare for the show.
Therefore, he found an empty seat and sat down. Then, he called the makeup artist over to do his makeup.
When she saw that Su Yang had started to put on his makeup, Shasha’s mother gave Su Yang some instructions before heading to the set.
When Su Yang was putting on makeup, Sister Duoduo’s face did not move as she glanced at Su Yang before greeting him, “Hello, I’m Liao Duoduo. I’m a guest for the show. You are...?”
Su Yang replied, “Oh, my name is Su Yang. I’m also a guest for the show.”
Hearing Su Yang’s words, Liao Duoduo glanced at Su Yang with a meaningful gaze.
‘His make-up is relatively simple, it’s mainly concealer, foundation and some simple handling. The main objective is for him to look good on camera.
‘After all, all the flaws on the human face would easily be magnified in front of the camera, so some appropriate makeup would be a basic respect to the audience.
After Su Yang was done with his makeup, he thanked the makeup artist and headed to the recording hall.
After taking a few steps, Su Yang bumped into a familiar face, Young Master Ying.
When Su Yang saw Young Master Ying at the television station, he was a little surprised as he took the initiative to greet the latter. “Hello, who’s this?”
Young Master Ying took a look but was not surprised. Instead, he smiled and said, “Young Master Su, I knew that you were here.”
Su Yang was confused. “Why is that?”
Young Master Ying did not explain and immediately flashed his car keys.
Instantly, Su Yang was enlightened. ‘That’s right. Young Master Ying was the one who gave me my car, so it would only be normal for him to be able to recognize my car.’
As the two friends met, they started to chat in the corridor.
Young Master Ying asked, “Young Master Su, based on this makeup you have on, are you about to be on some show?”
Su Yang nodded and explained his participation in the public service video.
Young Master Ying listened to the video in a daze and gave Su Yang a thumbs up. “You really do have a sense of social responsibility, Young Master Su. To think that you’d actually take the time to make a public service video. That’s pretty nice.”
Su Yang did not reply. Instead, he asked, “By the way, what are you doing here?”
After he said that, Su Yang added, “Here to woo some girls? Which female host have you fallen for?”
Young Master Ying let out a bitter laugh. “Stop teasing me. Even if I want to woo someone, I would still have to consider the impact it would have on my father. I don’t want to cause him any trouble.”
He said, “Actually, I’m here to look for the director of this TV station. Our company is recently preparing to advertise at Shanghai TV Station, so I’m here to have a chat with him.”
Su Yang nodded his head and intended to let Young Master Ying go do his work first while he headed off to record the show.
However, before he could say anything, Young Master Ying said, “By the way, Young Master Su, you haven’t given me the oral solution you promised me previously.”
Su Yang was stunned for a moment. He recalled the time when he went to look for Young Master Ying to ask about the information he had received. After that, he slapped his forehead and said, “I almost forgot.
“However, I recall that I just so happen to have two boxes in my car, so if you’re not in a hurry, we can go to my car and get them after I’m finished with the show.”
Then, Young Master Ying beamed with joy. “Sure, thank you, Young Master Su.”
Su Yang did not feel that Young Master Ying’s words were sincere when the latter did not trigger Su Yang’s Silver Talent, [Kindness Must Be Repaid].
Then, the two of them chatted for a while more before Young Master Ying said, “I’ll come and meet you later then”. After that, he went upstairs to look for the TV station’s director.
After bidding farewell to Young Master Ying, Su Yang did not go to the main hall but returned to his car first.
After all, he was not clairvoyant, so he did not actually bring any oral fluids with him. However, he had a virtual space which had everything inside.
Hence, Su Yang asked Little Deeny to find two boxes of oral fluid. Then, he took them out with the glass screen and placed them on the passenger seat.
After that, Su Yang closed the car door and returned to the recording hall.
The moment he entered the recording hall, Su Yang saw Shasha’s mother standing not far away. Hence, he greeted her and the two of them sat in the back row of the audience’s seats. Then, they chatted as they watched the stage being set up.
Su Yang told her about what happened with Sister Duoduo and asked, “Who is she? Why do I feel like she’s looking at me weirdly?”
Shasha’s mother explained with a smile, “Of course she would look at you weirdly. Normally, the guests of the show would have their makeup done in a large public dressing room, but that dressing room is messy and noisy. So, not only would the person feel uncomfortable, even their makeup artist’s mood would get affected and end up doing a subpar job.
“That’s why people who have connections will go to the smaller dressing room to have their makeup done. This is the unspoken rule of the TV station.
“So, since you were in there, that would mean that you’re definitely someone with connections, hence no matter where you are, people connected to each other will definitely have an advantage, including their chances at winning the award. Which is why... It’s only obvious that she would look at you like that.”
Su Yang then realized what was happening.
‘She’s treating me like a competitor... No wonder she gave me that deep look just now.
‘However, she’s got her eye on the wrong opponent. After all, I’m not bothered about winning this at all, let alone the prize money.’
Then, Su Yang recalled his memories in greater detail. ‘What was the prize money’s amount again? Two million yuan? This isn’t even enough to cover the profit I gain from my stock exchange.’
Well... If the production crew were to find out what Su Yang was thinking at the time, they would probably be frustrated but could do nothing at all.
However, it’s not because Su Yang had looked down on them for offering too little prize money, but... The prize money was actually only one million yuan.
They would probably be jumping up and down angrily at the humiliation! Su Yang was bullying them too far! Not only was the prize money half of what Su Yang had thought, they even had to be looked down upon!
On the other hand, Su Yang only pondered about this matter for a moment before he tossed it to the back of his mind. Instead, he was curious about something else. ‘Who is Liao Duoduo connected to?
‘Based on what her makeup artist had said, she seems to have built up her career from scratch and is a role model for women. This can’t just be a deliberate character design now, can it? Could the reason she’s working hard to develop herself up to this point be just so that she can leap to greater heights?’
Although Su Yang was not a curious person, he... Actually became more gossipy after gaining more money.
With that thought in mind, he wanted to ask if Shasha’s mother knew who Liao Duoduo’s connection was.
However, before he could ask, the woman called Liao Duoduo walked in and was dressed brightly like a celebrity. Next to her, there was a man in his 40s’.
Seeing the man walk in, the others gradually greeted by saying “Director”, “Hello, director.” “Director, you’re here” and so on.
Hence, Su Yang got an answer to his prior question. ‘So, it seems to be the director...’
Below the stage, Liao Duoduo sensed Su Yang’s gaze, causing her to turn her head around to look at him.
Liao Duoduo actually seemed to be quite friendly as she smiled at Su Yang before retracting her gaze and continuing to follow beside the director. Then, she said softly, “Uncle Yang, you should head back to your work if you’re busy. It wouldn’t look good if you’re going to keep on staying here...”
Director Yang knew that he had achieved his goal, hence he nodded slightly and softly whispered, “This weekend, our usual place.”
Liao Duoduo let out a coquettish sound, “Alright...”
After the director left, Liao Duoduo greeted the production team and the staff with a smile on her face. She was very friendly and did not look arrogant just because she was familiar with the director.
This had always been Liao Duoduo’s style. She knew that her relationship with the director could not be taken to the public, so she had to keep a low profile and not cause a huge scene out of it. Occasionally, she would pull the director out to show everyone who was backing her up.
Normally, she had to pretend that she did not have an affair with him and live her life normally. Apart from that, she had to be kind to others, so that she would not be hated.
Actually, ever since she became familiar with the people in the TV station, in order to avoid being affected, she would not simply appear together with the director.
However, when she met Su Yang in the dressing room that day and after he left and heard from her makeup artist that Su Yang was brought in by the deputy director’s wife, she felt a sense of danger.
The deputy director... A person who had actual authority instead of just some minor character. Hence, she was someone who was actually close to the director. Therefore, Liao Duoduo secretly sought for the director’s help to make her presence known.
When Liao Duoduo went to meet the director, he just so happened to be accompanying a customer to the advertising department for a business discussion, so she tagged along with him.
Although Liao Duoduo did not show it on her face, her heart was filled with pride when she saw everyone’s fervent gazes on her.
Then, when she took another glance at Su Yang from afar once again, she flashed a gentle smile at him. However, only she herself knew that she was actually feeling smug. ‘So what if you have the deputy director behind your back? I have the director himself backing me up. So, no matter who it is that’s supporting you, there can’t be anyone with a better background than me in the television station. I’m definitely going to win this award.’
On the other hand, Su Yang did not know that Duoduo was trying to intimidate him. Or rather, even if he knew, he would probably have ignored her. In fact, he was still chatting away with Shasha’s mom about the “parenting scripture”.
When he heard that Shasha was already learning drawing, calligraphy, dancing, Taekwondo and so on in kindergarten, Su Yang could not help but wonder. ‘Should I seriously think about arranging more extracurricular activities for the little one at home.
‘Otherwise... I can’t help but feel that I’m losing behind.’
As for the question whether the child would be able to enjoy their childhood... ‘Hmm... My childhood was filled with hoeing weeds, sowing seeds and rearing pigs, but haven’t I turned out well as well?
‘Everyone’s childhood is different. Some are filled with laughter, some are filled with various colours, while some are filled with the smell of pig dung...
‘However, no matter what it is, it’s still the most precious memory when we look back at it after walking through a lifetime.’
While Su Yang was pondering, the show started.
Su Yang went on stage and went through the motions. According to the host’s question, he answered the question of why he wanted to shoot this charity video.
But, what could Su Yang say?
To complete his mission? No, he was not stupid.
Instead, he had to come up with some nicer words such as to promote the core values of socialism, to spread positive energy etc.
After all, in that society, if one did not talk about those things, they would be shunned by society.
One show was done recording, the program team filled them in with an arrangement that the six videos that were nominated for the semi-finals would continue to be broadcasted on Tencent Media and Shanghai TV Station on a loop. Then, during that week, the specialized team would select the best video and select a winner who would receive a cash prize of one million yuan.
After the recording, Su Yang returned to the small dressing room to remove his makeup. Of course, Liao Duoduo was in the same room as him.
As Liao Duoduo removed her makeup, she glanced at Su Yang and asked, “Su... Yang, am I right?”
Su Yang nodded. “That’s right.”
Liao Duoduo said, “If you were to win the award, what would you do with it?”
Su Yang hesitated for a moment. ‘One million yuan...? What could I do with that? I... Don’t think I’d be able to do anything though, that amount of money isn’t even worth thinking about.’
Hence, Su Yang thought about it for a moment and said, “I’d probably donate it.”
Liao Duoduo was stunned for a moment. She did not expect such a reaction from Su Yang. However, she still nodded her head. “Yes, that’s a good idea.”.
According to normal formalities, she should have added “If I win, I’ll donate the money too” to prove that she was an avid public welfare supporter as well. However, she did not say that.
This was because she really thought that she would win the award, so she could not talk nonsense like Su Yang...
Just as the two were chatting, there were two knocks on the dressing room door. Since they did not need to keep their faces still when removing their make-up, they turned to look at the door.
Then, the moment the dressing room door was pushed open, Director Yang appeared behind it.
The moment he saw Director Yang, Su Yang turned around and pretended not to see him. ‘He’s obviously looking for Liao Duoduo.’
However, at this moment, Liao Duoduo was confused. Didn’t we say that we’d meet this week? Why is he here again?’
