Chapter 817 - The Wishlist
At first, Guo Xiaoying didn’t see the note since she was still busy reading Xue Ya’s notes on arithmetics.
After searching for a while, Guo Xiaoying found the notebook and placed it on the table, tidied up Xue Ya’s bag, and placed it back on the chair. Then, she lowered her head and found the note on the floor.
Guo Xiaoying gasped when she saw the note. “What is this?”
As she spoke, she lowered her head to pick up the note.
There were a few lines of small handwriting on the paper. According to Guo Xiaoying’s understanding of Xue Ya, Xue Ya had written it herself.
Guo Xiaoying read the note, which were Xue Ya’s wishes.
First wish: Hug Daddy and Mommy and tell them I love them.
Second wish: Take Guo Xiaoying shopping (smile).
Third wish: Have a real relationship before quietly leaving.
Fourth wish: Eat lots, and lots, and lots of delicious food. I want to eat everything, including Haidilao, Victory Guest, famous food in Nanjing!
Fifth wish...
Sixth wish...
There were many wishes written on the paper, more than a hundred of them upon calculation. Some of them included bungee jumping, traveling around the world, going to Disneyland, and so on.
‘What kind of person would wish to personally feed a shark? Also, traveling through the Sahara Desert on foot seems impossible as well.
‘Anyway... This is the most normal wishlist for a girl.’
Therefore, after reading the wishlist, Guo Xiaoying smiled and ignored it. She was about to put the note back into Xue Ya’s bag when she suddenly realized that there were some words written on the back of the note.
Hence, Guo Xiaoying took out the note again and flipped it over.
On the back was a line of medicinal names and usage written in the same elegant handwriting.
Guo Xiaoying looked at the name of the medicine curiously. Combined with the wishes written on the note, she felt something was wrong and had a bad feeling.
She quickly pulled out her phone and keyed the name of the drug into the browser. After two seconds of anxious waiting, the introduction of the drug appeared before her.
Guo Xiaoying’s face turned pale.
She tossed the note on the table in a panic. Her hands were shaking as she searched for Xue Ya’s bag.
After a while, she found a bottle of medicine in her bag.
Seeing the name on the medicine, Guo Xiaoying’s face turned even paler...
Guo Xiaoying sat quietly with the medicine in her hand. Her eyes lost focus and her grip on the medicine bottle tightened...
She mumbled to herself, “How could this be? How could this be...”
After a long while, she seemed to have made up her mind. She placed the medicine and note back into Xue Ya’s bag and hid them. Then, she patted her face. As if to encourage herself, she adjusted her expression.
Then, she closed the book and placed the stuff on the desk before she left the classroom and headed to the toilet to find Xue Ya.
Guo Xiaoying pushed the door open. Before she could enter, she heard her best friend’s voice.
“Why would you buy three tickets for the two of us? Are you trying to be a playboy again?”
“And then?”
“Are you going to cook for me, or eat me...”
“Hmph, you can eat by yourself if you want to. That’s so salty and doesn’t taste good at all.”
Guo Xiaoying froze when she heard that. Then her face changed, from being embarrassed, to angry, and worried.
She was no longer a fifteen-year-old girl, and she had some understanding of the relationship between men and women.
Even though she had never experienced it herself, through the internet, she knew many of the related stuff.
Therefore, after some thought, she understood the meaning behind Xue Ya’s words. Obviously, before she knew it, Xue Ya had found herself a boyfriend, and the two of them had done many shameful things behind her back.
Since childhood, Xue Ya had always been Guo Xiaoying’s best friend.
The two of them had grown up together since kindergarten. Their relationship was not just that of normal best friends anymore; they were more like blood-related sisters.
Compared to Guo Xiaoying, who had been naughty since she was young, Xue Ya was more vulnerable and easily bullied. Therefore, most of the time, Guo Xiaoying would be the one who protected Xue Ya.
At times, Guo Xiaoying even felt like a mother protecting her daughter.
And in the end... After so many years of protecting her, she suddenly realized that the daughter she had protected had been “hurt” by someone else, and was now bleeding...
At that moment, Guo Xiaoying felt as if the piece of high-grade food that she had raised for many years was being eaten by a pig!
No!
She felt as if it was being eaten up by a wild boar.
Not only that, but Guo Xiaoying thought she was very close to Xue Ya. In her eyes, they were like sisters who talked about everything.
Suddenly, she realized that Xue Ya had another person behind her back. At that moment, Guo Xiaoying felt betrayed.
Guo Xiaoying wanted to explode with anger. She wanted to pull Xue Ya out of the cubicle and interrogate her.
She wanted to bring the hammer down and break that person’s legs.
However, the moment she took her first step, she suddenly thought of the note, the bottle of medicine, and the note that she had found...
At that moment, all of Guo Xiaoying’s anger, grievance, and worry disappeared. All that was left was regret...
Guo Xiaoying was overwhelmed by two unacceptable facts that had suddenly hit her, and was distraught.
Before she could think of a way to deal with Xue Ya, the door opened and Xue Ya walked out, thus coming face to face with Guo Xiaoying...
Guo Xiaoying felt like crying when she saw her best friend whom she had been best friends with for more than 10 years.
She studied her best friend and then realized that she did not know when, but her best friend had lost a lot of weight. Her face was much paler, and there was no color left in it. Coupled with her best friend’s fragile temperament, she looked even more... Beautiful.
If Guo Xiaoying had not seen her best friend’s note a moment ago, she would probably have praised Xue Ya for being so beautiful that it invited others to take pity on her.
However, Guo Xiaoying couldn’t bring herself to praise her friend anymore. She tried her best to suppress her emotions. Hence, she greeted her best friend and pretended that nothing had happened.
Guo Xiaoying had been trained to lie since she was young, so she didn’t reveal any flaws and successfully tricked Xue Ya.
Thus, the two of them returned to the classroom together. Xue Ya looked at the clean table and turned to ask curiously, “What’s wrong? Xiaoying, why did you pack everything up?”
Guo Xiaoying smiled and said, “I suddenly don’t want to study anymore. I want to go shopping in the afternoon. Let’s go together.”
The way the two of them interacted had always been weird. Most of the time, it was Guo Xiaoying who suggested it. Then Xue Ya... Agreed.
That’s right, she would just agree to any request.
However, at that time, Xue Ya didn’t agree immediately. Instead, she gave Guo Xiaoying a strange look.
She was curious because she loved shopping. However, Guo Xiaoying was a girl who hated shopping.
Therefore, other than shopping with her mother occasionally, Xue Ya could only shop on Taobao most of the time.
Thus, after hearing Guo Xiaoying’s suggestion, Xue Ya gave her a strange look and touched her forehead. “Xiaoying, are you okay? Did you just say you want to go shopping?”
Guo Xiaoying rolled her eyes at Xue Ya and said, “What’s wrong with that? I am a girl after all, so what’s wrong with shopping?”
Xue Ya looked at Guo Xiaoying and clicked her tongue. “Oh my God, that doesn’t sound like something you would say at all. You’ve always hated shopping.
“And... Are you sure you’re a girl?”
Xue Ya took advantage of Guo Xiaoying’s surprise and attacked her breast with both hands.
Guo Xiaoying couldn’t dodge in time and was hit hard.
She was shocked. Then, she heard Xue Ya say, “Still so flat? Little Ying, have you not developed yet?”
Guo Xiaoying became speechless.
Hearing Xue Ya’s words, Guo Xiaoying looked at Xue Ya and realized that she had grown bigger...
‘Could it be because she found a boyfriend?’
Guo Xiaoying gritted her teeth at the thought of her boyfriend who was eating her high-grade food.
At that moment, Guo Xiaoying really wanted to find this person and interrogate him. She wanted to know if his feelings for Xue Ya were real or fake! Was he going to marry her or was he just playing around?
Apart from that, she wanted to ask if he knew about Xue Ya’s current situation! Then once he found out, what was he going to do?
Guo Xiaoying wanted to expose the man’s true colors so that he would back off and stop bothering Xue Ya.
Because Xue Ya could not handle being hurt anymore at that moment...
Xue Ya spent the rest of the afternoon shopping with Guo Xiaoying.
Xue Ya had never thought that Guo Xiaoying would be so patient and determined when it came to shopping.
In fact, Xue Ya could feel that Guo Xiaoying was getting sick and tired of her. However, she managed to hold on until the end.
Therefore, in the end, Xue Ya could not take it anymore and suggested ending the shopping spree. After all, Xue Ya was not in good health recently...
After shopping, Xue Ya and Guo Xiaoying found a Starbucks and sat down. They ordered two cups of coffee and chatted as they drank.
While they were chatting, Guo Xiaoying was distracted. She was still thinking about Xue Ya.
Xue Ya, on the other hand, was elated because she felt like she had completed another wish on her wishlist, which had been completed so easily. Hence, this was something worth celebrating..
However, thinking about her date with Qu Xuan that night, Xue Ya felt a headache coming on. She realized that shopping might be a good thing, but since she was with Guo Xiaoying that afternoon, she had no chance to sneak out...
If she didn’t have a chance to slip away, she wouldn’t be able to abandon Guo Xiaoying and go on a date alone.
‘What to do...’
As Xue Ya drank her coffee, her mind raced as she thought of an excuse.
After thinking for a while, Xue Ya’s eyes lit up. She then secretly sent Qu Xuan a WeChat message to ask him to give her a call.
A moment later, the phone rang. Xue Ya picked it up and started to talk to herself. “Hello? Dad, what did you say? I have an aunt coming to Shanghai?
“Oh, I see. I understand.
“What? She wants to have dinner with me tonight.
“Oh, I understand.
“Okay, got it.”
After a while, Xue Ya ended the call.
She put down her phone and said to Guo Xiaoying pitifully, “Little Ying, I have an aunt who’s come here to Shanghai. She said she wants to meet me. So, I can’t have dinner with you tonight.”
Guo Xiaoying raised her head and looked at her best friend, who was never good at lying since she was young.
‘Why has she come up with such a clumsy lie?
‘Hasn’t she thought of the possibility that I might join her since I’m so close with her family?
‘Or, is she not afraid that I might check her phone?’
However, thinking about Xue Ya’s current situation, Guo Xiaoying didn’t want to argue with her. Therefore, she pretended that she had been tricked. She nodded and said, “Okay, go ahead. I can go back to school myself.”
Xue Ya nodded and took a sip of her coffee. She felt that she was becoming more and more clever, even so far as being able to trick Guo Xiaoying with a lie...
Although Xue Ya tried her best to hide it, Guo Xiaoying knew her best friend too well.
Therefore, with just one glance, Guo Xiaoying knew that her best friend was smiling inside.
She then secretly rolled her eyes, feeling that her best friend was really silly and cute.
However, this also meant that she truly loved her boyfriend...
At that moment, Guo Xiaoying felt that she had to investigate the man’s identity as soon as possible. Then, she would secretly test the man to make sure that he would not hurt Xue Ya.
As for whether she should tell this man about Xue Ya’s condition, Guo Xiaoying thought about it...
While she was shopping with Xue Ya, Guo Xiaoying continued to think about it for the whole afternoon. After thinking about it for a long time, she realized that this was Xue Ya’s secret. So, she could not tell anyone without her permission.
Guo Xiaoying wasn’t sure if Xue Ya would be able to accept it if she told the truth and forced the man to leave.
Perhaps, for Xue Ya, even having a relationship built on false love was better than nothing...
While Xue Ya and Guo Xiaoying were having a mental fight, Su Yang was listening to Zhao Licheng’s report in the virtual space.
