Chapter 826 - The Truth About Xue Ya
The newly modified ability of [Truth Or Explosion] allowed Su Yang to know the other party’s’ true answer ‘for the next 10 questions.
The requirement for this ability did not require Su Yang to do it in person, so it could work even through the phone.
At that thought, Su Yang said to Qu Xuan, “Hang on for a moment.”
As he spoke, Su Yang pressed the “mute” button and shouted into the air, “Little Deeny, help me get the [Silver Ability Extraction Voucher].”
The [Silver Ability Extraction Voucher] was a special Prize Voucher that Su Yang had obtained previously. The ability of this prize was to extract and store a Silver Ability.
At that time, Su Yang obtained the [Truth or Explosion] when he was drawing a Silver Ability. However, because this ability was too useless, Su Yang used this Prize Voucher to store the ability, and [Truth Or Explosion] was stored in this voucher ever since.
This remained unchanged even after the modification was done.
Now, Su Yang was finally going to use this ability again.
Following Su Yang’s call, Little Deeny appeared before him and handed him a silver-white voucher.
Since the [Silver Ability Extraction Voucher] could be used repeatedly, Su Yang did not use it directly. Instead, he stuck it on his forehead.
As Su Yang pasted the certificate, he chanted “recovery” silently. After a while, the ability [Truth Or Explosion] appeared in his mind.
Su Yang then deactivated the “mute” on his glass phone and said to Qu Xuan, “Qu Xuan, how about this? Let’s play a game. As long as you win, I’ll lend you the money.”
Su Yang had already decided that if Qu Xuan had really gone down the wrong path, then he would have no choice but to stop their friendship out of righteousness. Not only would he not lend him money, but he would also tell his own teacher... Ahem, he was going to tell Qu Xuan’s sister.
After all, he wanted to help Qu Xuan resolve his current predicament as soon as possible.
Qu Xuan was taken aback by Su Yang’s actions. However, since he had a favor to ask of Su Yang, he could only say, “Alright. What shall we play?”
When Su Yang said the “secret signal”, the ability had already taken effect. Hence, Su Yang said, “Let’s play a game where I ask the questions, and you answer.
“You can choose to tell the truth or lie, but you have to answer anyway.”
Qu Xuan hesitated. “Alright.”
Su Yang asked, “What happened to the 4,000 yuan that you borrowed previously?”
Qu Xuan coughed. “I just broke something. I bought a new one.”
As Qu Xuan spoke, Su Yang heard Qu Xuan’s’ inner voice... ‘When we were researching the different positions of our love in the bedroom, I forgot that the food was still on the stove. By the time I realized it, the kitchen was on fire.
‘I hurriedly sent Xue Ya away while my parents weren’t home and went to the mall to buy a new gas stove.
‘I then told my parents that it was my way of being filial to them...
‘As for where the old one went, I told my parents that I traded it in for the new one.’
Su Yang looked at Qu Xuan’s inner thoughts and was speechless.
‘How did Qu Xuan manage to do so many things in such a short time and come up with so many reasons?
‘He’s a true master of time management!
‘I’m impressed...’
Su Yang felt that other than learning how to flirt from Qu Xuan, he also had to learn time management from him.
After knowing the truth about the reason Qu Xuan borrowed money that time, Su Yang could not help but guess the reason why Qu Xuan borrowed money this time...
‘Last time, he had been too invested with Xue Ya, so he had burned the gas stove. Could it be that he had been too invested again and ended up burning the house this time? Otherwise, it could not have cost 400 thousand yuan, right?’
With that thought in mind, Su Yang asked, “Then, why do you need the money this time?”
Qu Xuan could sense the admiration in Su Yang’s voice, but he did not know why Su Yang “admired” him. However, he did not say anything about it, so he could only take it as his own imagination.
Su Yang’s question was exactly what he did not want to answer. After a moment of silence, he repeated, “Can I not say?”
Although Qu Xuan refused to answer this question, Su Yang could still hear his true thoughts.
It turned out that Qu Xuan and Xue Ya had been living a sweet life these past few days, but the good times did not last long. Guo Xiaoying finally found out about the two of them who had been having an underground relationship.
Guo Xiaoying had matured a lot after learning about Xue Ya’s secret. However, she was still worried that Qu Xuan would harm her best friend. Therefore, she went to find Qu Xuan alone. She wanted to awaken Qu Xuan’s conscience and let Xue Ya go.
Although Qu Xuan used to have a bad reputation, he was serious about Xue Ya this time. Therefore, no matter what Guo Xiaoying said, he refused to leave Xue Ya.
In the end, Guo Xiaoying had no choice but to reveal Xue Ya’s secret. Xue Ya had been feeling unwell last semester and had a bad memory. However, for some reason, during the holidays, she went to the hospital alone to register for treatment.
Originally, she only wanted to treat her illness, but the doctor asked her to do more tests, and in the end, she found out that she had cancer. Furthermore, it was the hardest type of cancer... Brain cancer.
Brain cancer was difficult to treat because the tumor was located in the brain, and the cost of treatment was astronomical. With Xue Ya’s family background, it was impossible for them to afford it. Therefore, Xue Ya eventually decided to bear the responsibility silently. She did not tell her family or anyone around her, and she even broke up with Qu Xuan.
She wanted to leave this world quietly and not burden anyone.
Guo Xiaoying knew about her best friend’s condition, so she hoped that no one would disturb her. She also looked for her parents and her close relatives to borrow money so that she could fund Xue Ya’s surgery.
Therefore, she hoped that Qu Xuan could let Xue Ya go and not play with her feelings so that she could recuperate in peace. Of course, if possible, she also asked Qu Xuan to pretend to be serious with Xue Ya on account of the sincerity she had shown to him.
To Guo Xiaoying’s surprise, Qu Xuan was truly in love with Xue Ya. When he heard about Xue Ya’s condition, not only did Qu Xuan not choose to leave Xue Ya, but he also wanted to help Xue Ya raise money for treatment.
As Xue Ya was in the last stage of brain cancer, she did not have much time left. Hence, when she tried to borrow money from her parents, she realized that her family had a finite amount of money. Hence, Qu Xuan could only reach out to Su Yang...
The reason why he knew so much about Xue Ya’s illness was because he and Guo Xiaoying had figured it out based on the clues that Xue Ya had revealed.
As the people closest to Xue Ya, they did not notice anything strange at first, but now that they had a clue, it was not difficult for them to deduce the whole thing.
However... This saved Su Yang the trouble of investigating the real reason behind everything.
On the other hand, Qu Xuan did not expect Su Yang to know so much just because he said “can I not say?”
Su Yang did not expect that Qu Xuan would only say one sentence, but heard such a long story in the end as well.
Su Yang listened to the story for a whole minute, and he remained silent for the same duration.
The silence made Qu Xuan’s heart sink.
Qu Xuan, who was on the other end of the phone, did not receive Su Yang’s reply for a long time. He knew that he had gone overboard by borrowing money without explaining the reason, especially when he had borrowed money once.
After a minute of silence, Su Yang sighed and said, “President, my request is indeed a little too much. I’m sorry, I’ll think of another way. Sorry for the trouble.”
With that, he prepared to hang up.
However, just as he was about to take off his earpiece, Su Yang said calmly, “I’ll send you the money via Alipay later.”
There was no emotion in his voice. It was as if he was talking about something insignificant, but Qu Xuan was really surprised.
He quickly asked, “Really? Are you serious, President?”
Su Yang replied, “Yes. of course I’m serious.”
Hearing Su Yang’s confirmation, Qu Xuan said excitedly, “Thank you, President! Thank you so much!”
Then, perhaps because he felt that this kind of gratitude did not carry any weight, he quickly added, “I will return this money to you as soon as possible! And I will pay you with interest as well. Thank you so much!”
Su Yang did not suspect anything. He knew Qu Xuan pretty well and knew that he was not one to renege on his debt. As long as he knew that he did not go down the wrong path, Su Yang was not worried.
Moreover... It was only 400 thousand yuan. To Su Yang, who had a net worth of 100 billion yuan, it was really an insignificant number.
Su Yang felt that it was worth it to use such a small number to test the personality of an important friend.
After hanging up the phone, Su Yang instructed Little Deeny to transfer the money over and did not pay much attention to how the money was spent after that.
Except, he did think more about something...
‘Xue Ya is sick?
‘It’s cancer of all things even...
‘That’s a terminal illness.
‘If she wants to treat or delay her illness, she’s going to have to spend a lot of money
However, from what Guo Xiaoying knows about Xue Ya’s family, Xue Ya’s family seems to be unable to handle the burden.
‘So, are Guo Xiaoying and Qu Xuan going to raise money for Xue Ya’s treatment by themselves? That’s going to be impossible.
‘Furthermore, even if they’re willing to do so, Xue Ya might not be.
‘Xue Ya obviously knows that this is an incurable illness, so she wants to save up the money for her family.
‘Now that Qu Xuan and Guo Xiaoying lent her money to treat her illness, who’s going to pay them back later?
‘Guo Xiaoying and Qu Xuan may want to bear the responsibility, but would Xue Ya agree to it?
‘She refused for her family to pay for her treatment, so why would she agree to have her best friend and boyfriend bear that burden instead?’
Su Yang shook his head.
‘Qu Xuan and Guo Xiaoying are looking at this matter too simply.
‘However... Qu Xuan may really be a jerk at times, but when he’s infatuated, he’s really knees deep into it.’
This changed Su Yang’s view of Qu Xuan’s love life.
Su Yang’s good impression of Qu Xuan increased at the same time.
After that, Su Yang looked out of the window and started to hesitate. ‘In that case, should I do something about Xue Ya’s current state?
‘If she spends actual money to treat her illness, it might not work out well since the real world can’t cure her.
‘But, I have special items...’
In order to save the Clown Sea Serpent, Sanque’s roots and his last life-saving item, [Photosynthistic Treant], had already been used.
So, even if Xue Ya wanted to use it, it was no longer available.
As for the Random Points...
All of them had been given to the liquid metal avatar to pay the price for his balancing scale, so Su Yang did not have any more left.
‘Besides, to add a point for a special item that could treat cancer...’
Su Yang shook his head at that point. ‘I think it’s going to be very difficult.’
Therefore, unfortunately, Xue Ya’s illness had come at a very bad time.
At that moment, Su Yang realized that there was nothing he could do to help her.
At the thought of this, Su Yang thought for a while and shook his head again. He picked up the book in his hand. “Forget it. Let’s see what Qu Xuan and the rest can do first. We’ll see what can be done when the time comes. There’s nothing I can do now.”
