Chapter 819 - Mutated Plant: Gold Coconut Tree
Don’t even try and think about how an 8-meter coconut tree was placed in a 5-6-meter laboratory. That was because... There were three or four white coconuts at the top of the coconut tree which were as big as a human head. For some reason, the weight of these coconuts was especially terrifying, causing the entire coconut tree to even bend.
Therefore, in the lab, the coconut tree was shaped like a bow, which caused it to not be that tall in actuality.
Su Yang was actually no stranger to this coconut tree. The last time he pulled Spirit Building, Gru, and Little Deeny together to collect mutated plants in the virtual space, he had collected a silvery-white coconut. Back then, that coconut was plucked from this tree.
Unexpectedly, Martha had moved the entire coconut tree into the lab.
From Martha’s actions, Su Yang knew that this coconut tree must be very important. ‘Either it’s extremely dangerous or extremely precious.’.
Hence, Su Yang asked Martha curiously, “Is there anything special about this coconut tree?”
Martha, who had returned to being 23-year-old, had long returned to her prime. She had long brown hair, green eyes, defined features, and a shapely body.
All in all, she was a very beautiful woman.
The reason why she was so famous in the scientific community was partly because of her good looks as well.
On top of that, she had inherited the man-eater flower when she was resurrected, which added a sense of danger to her beauty. Therefore, when Su Yang first saw her that day, he felt that even if she was not a scientist, she could still become an artist under him...
‘Cough cough.
‘The things I do for my companies...’
At that moment, when she heard Su Yang’s question, Martha’s beautiful face broke into a smile. She looked at Su Yang fervently and pointed at the coconut tree. “Master, this is the greatest plant I’ve ever seen. When I read the scriptures previously, there was a line written on it. When God was born, he pointed in a direction and a gold tree appeared.
“With a wave of his hand, gold and silver treasures appeared everywhere as well.
“At the time, I was young, so I did not believe these words, but now, I really do.”
Su Yang looked at Martha strangely, not knowing what she meant.
‘What does “God” and “Gold Tree” mean?
‘Could this coconut tree be related to it?’
Just as Su Yang was thinking about this, Martha picked up the walkie-talkie in her hand and said, “Let’s proceed with test No.1 on subject D.”
Following her orders, a silver shield slowly descended from the coconut tree, isolating the coconut tree from the outside world. Then, a room full of equipment appeared in the lab which was not blocked off from the space.
The set of experimental equipment was very strange, it was a stratified device. On the upper floor was a glass cabinet. The glass cabinet was high on the left side, low on the right side, and at the bottom of the left side, there was a groove. Under the groove was a ravine that extended out like a canal.
Underneath the glass panel was a transparent tank filled with water. The tank was about the size of a large fish tank. ‘What’s this huge tank filled with water used for?’
While Su Yang was observing, a researcher in a white coat walked in with a suitcase. He bowed to Su Yang and placed the suitcase on the table.
The researcher in the white coat opened the top layer of the suitcase and took out a full set of protective equipment. There were gloves, face masks, gas masks, and so on. He put them on one by one and then opened the bottom half of the suitcase to take out a mutated coconut that Su Yang had seen before.
The researcher placed the coconut in a groove high up on the glass panel. He held a small hammer with a sharp beak and lightly knocked on the bottom of the coconut a few times. Then, there was a loud “Bang” sound, and a small hole was created under the coconut.
After that, a pool of thick, gold liquid slowly flowed out from the small hole like thick coconut juice, flowing into the groove on the glass panel...
Su Yang moved closer to the glass wall and examined the gold liquid.
The liquid was gold and boiling hot. Wherever it went, there was steam rising, as if the temperature was very high. Therefore, in just a moment, the gold liquid melted the groove and dripped into the water tank below.
Su Yang was shocked as he thought that the experiment had failed.
In the end, just as he was surprised, he did not expect that the gold liquid would fall into the water stored in the water tank. Then, after evaporating into a ball of mist, it instantly froze and slowly sank into the water.
Just like that, water vapor surged, and strands of gold liquid turned into gold toothpick-like solids that fell to the bottom of the water tank.
As time passed, the gold liquid in the coconut still kept pouring out, and falling into the water and becoming a solid state consistently.
Soon, the bottom of the water tank was filled with a golden liquid.
Looking at those golden “toothpicks”, Su Yang could not help but have a guess in his heart. He then looked at Martha, and asked with his gaze.
Martha nodded at him.
Su Yang was surprised.
This was because when he saw the scene earlier, he was thinking about the cooling process of liquid gold, but he did not expect Martha to confirm his thoughts were correct.
‘If my speculation is correct, then are all the gold solid substances in the tank actual gold?
‘How much gold is inside there? How much is it even worth?!’
Su Yang took a closer look and felt that there was at least 20 kilograms of gold in the water.
If converted, it would be more than eight million yuan.
Su Yang’s gaze couldn’t help but linger on the opened coconut for a while. He felt like he was dreaming. ‘More than eight million yuan worth of gold actually flowed out from just one coconut?’
Perhaps sensing Su Yang’s doubt, Martha moved her lips and explained to Su Yang, “Master, this coconut tree is the first research result in the laboratory, the Gold Coconut Tree.
“After some research, we discovered that this coconut tree had undergone a huge transformation due to some special reason. Because of this, it gained the ability to discover and absorb gold.
“According to our research, this tree is eight meters long, but its roots within the soil are over a hundred meters long, and they are still growing.
“We estimate that if we do not have it under control, sooner or later, the entire Socot Island will be occupied by its roots.
“Also, because of its natural ability to absorb gold, when it occupies the entire Socot Island, it will also absorb all the gold in the Socot Island’s stratum into itself and store it in its fruits.
“As long as we pluck the fruit from its tree and knock it open, we will be able to obtain all the gold from within the island.”
When Su Yang heard Martha’s words, his face was filled with shock. He could not help but ask, “But in ordinary lands, there shouldn’t be that much gold, right? How could it bear such a huge fruit?”
Martha explained, “That’s the second problem I want to talk about. During our research, we found that not only can it absorb the gold in the ground, it can also absorb the minute amounts of gold contained in water as well. In other words, it has the ability to filter gold.
“As long as there is something that contains gold around it, it can break it down completely and absorb the gold from within.
“However, like the golden coconut you saw, it doesn’t grow on its own. Instead, we placed close to 20 kilograms of gold near its roots for it to absorb and then produce it.”
Su Yang was speechless.
‘No wonder...
‘I thought that the coconut tree managed to collect 20 kilograms of gold in less than half a year.
‘If there is so much gold under Socot Island and the Gold Coconut Tree is so good at collecting gold, I’d be rich.
‘As long as I can find a way to cultivate this Gold Coconut Tree, I’d be able to plant this coconut tree all over the entire Socot Island. Then, before long, I would become the person with the most gold in the world.’
Gold was not a simple precious metal or a safe haven. It was also an indispensable industrial material in modern industrial society.
So, if Su Yang really had an endless supply of gold, the entire human industrial system would experience a huge leap... Of course, before the leap, the financial system might suffer a huge blow...
After that, Martha introduced the miraculous ability of this mutated coconut tree to Su Yang.
First of all, its roots had a super strong sense towards gold. It could detect gold and grow in that specific direction. The higher the amount of gold, the denser its roots would grow. This way, it could be used as a gold mine detector.
Secondly, because it could directly absorb gold in various environments, such as the ground, the water, and so on. Therefore, in some places where gold was at more scattered locations, as long as one planted the Gold Coconut Tree, they could easily harvest large amounts of gold, saving time and effort.
Just like what Su Yang had seen earlier, the gold stored in the mutated coconut was liquid. The melting point of the gold was as high as 1064.43 degrees Celsius. Hence, the coconut tree could release a huge amount of energy. If it was converted by some special method, it could be used as a new type of clean energy.
Finally, as mentioned earlier, the melting point of liquid gold was as high as 1064.43 degrees Celsius. And the small coconut could actually withstand this temperature because the innermost layer of the coconut shell of this coconut tree was made of “tungsten” metal.
Among all the metals on the periodic table of elements, “tungsten” was the metal with the highest melting point. Its melting point reached 3422 degrees Celsius, which prevented it from melting under high temperatures.
Therefore, after taking out the gold, the coconut from the Gold Coconut Tree could also separate out the tungsten within and have it used.
When Su Yang heard this, he could not help but feel puzzled. He had personally harvested this kind of mutated coconut before. Hence, he knew that he did not feel any heat when he touched the shell of the coconut, but he did not know the reason for it.
Since Martha dared to let Su Yang take a look at her experiment, it was obvious that she had studied this coconut tree thoroughly. Without any hesitation, she explained to Su Yang the principle behind the coconut heat insulation.
It turned out that the coconut contained liquid gold that was as high as 1,000 °C, but it did not emit any heat because the shell had mutated into a double-layer vacuum structure.
In the innermost layer was the entire tungsten ball wrapped in liquid gold so that the coconut would not melt.
Then, beyond the tungsten sphere, was a vacuum.
On the outside of the vacuum, there was a layer of thermos made from silver plating.
The vacuum state could prevent heat from colliding. The glass itself was a bad conductor of heat, while the silver-plated glass could reflect the heat that radiated outward from the coconut.
Immediately after, there was another layer of heat-resistant vacuum, and on the outermost layer was another layer of tungsten.
Such a double-layer vacuum structure ensured that liquid gold did not leak any heat.
Actually, this kind of structure was not uncommon.
In the nineteenth century, the British physicist Sir Duval invented the double-layer vacuum bottle, which was later commonly used in thermos bottles.
However, the amazing thing was that this type of human had used countless methods to experiment, and the special structure that had been discovered had been accidentally created by a plant.
When they talked about this, Martha couldn’t help but feel a little emotional. She felt that humans would always be the students of “God”. The world created by “God” actually contained many secrets, but they had never been discovered by humans.
Just like how humans had only developed nuclear reactors in the twentieth century, “God” created natural nuclear reactors in the desert of Africa two billion years ago.
If scientists had not discovered this natural reactor, humans would have thought that these were created by their own kind.
However, the Earth created by “God” had been around for hundreds of millions of years. So, what kind of coincidence had happened before that, and what kind of structures had even been created during that time?
Therefore, no one knew that the structure and phenomena that we had unintentionally discovered in the future might have been created by God billions of years ago.
At this point, Martha looked at Su Yang with even more fervor, as if she was looking at a god in the real world.
Su Yang broke out in cold sweat. He felt that no matter what happened, the fanatical believer before him would still implicate everything to her “God”.
Compared to Gods, Su Yang believed that these peculiar phenomena were actually the power of nature and time...
‘Nature and time are the real “Gods”.’
After Su Yang finished looking at the Gold Coconut Tree, he followed Martha to Lab 2.
When he arrived, Su Yang took a closer look and realized that this laboratory was a little smaller than Lab 1. It was only 60 to 70 square meters, and it was not even one-fifth of Lab 1.
However, despite it being a laughing matter, there were many researchers entering and exiting the laboratory.
In fact, Su Yang noticed that other than the researchers, there were many resurrected little monsters standing guard.
‘From the looks of it, Lab 2 seems dangerous, doesn’t it...?’
