Chapter 686: The Massacre On The Barren Island!
No. 2 didn’t quite understand. He said, “But, the danger level here isn’t low either, is it? We’ve already got an injured team member the moment we came ashore.”
No. 1 shook his head. “You’re a rookie, so you don’t understand.
“You see, the danger level on this island really isn’t that high. If you’ve been to the battlefield in Central Asia, you’ll know how scary that is. There, bullets are flying everywhere and you might just lose your life if you’re not careful.
“However, on this island, even though we did get one injured team member, it’s only just that one. Later on, when that humanoid creature tried to advance, we kept it pinned down. Furthermore, we shot at him several times, forcing it to stay away from us and was even injured.
“This is enough to prove that the enemy is a creature with extremely high agility, but cannot block bullets.”
When he heard that, No. 2 nodded thoughtfully.
Then No. 1 continued, “Look at the wounds on No. 7’s body. His wound is located right in between his shirt and pants, where there are signs that his bulletproof vest had attacked, but it did not penetrate. So, this means that this creature does not have a very strong attack power and it cannot penetrate our bulletproof vest and helmet.”
“Therefore, our safety can be greatly improved. As long as we are careful and do not get ambushed, we will be safe.”
No. 2 did not quite understand and asked, “But, even on the battlefield, with bulletproof vests and helmets, there’s no need for us to be worried about being injured by bullets though.”
No. 1 looked at him in surprise and chuckled. “You are a rookie indeed.
“Do you really think that bulletproof vests and helmets are meant to be bulletproof?”
No. 2 asked, “What is it for then?”
No. 1 explained, “That’s so that you’d still have all of your body parts when you die. Aside from stray bullets and shrapnel, it isn’t able to block a normal bullet at all. If you get hit within 100 or 200 meters, your chance of survival is almost zero.”
No. 2 was stunned.
Then, No. 1 shook his head. “That’s why I said that this mission is much easier than the battlefield in Central Asia. Do you believe me now?”
In fact, it was not only No. 1 who thought that way. The mercenaries on the shore also thought the same. Many of these two groups of mercenaries were old members of the King Latin gang and some had gone to the battlefield in Central Asia to train before. Thus, they had their own logic when it came to assessing the risk of a particular mission.
Initially, they were worried that there were other mercenaries or something scary on the island. After all, a few dozen gang members had disappeared without a trace.
However, after the first ambush on the shore, they felt much more at ease. After all, these creatures did not have high offensive or defensive power, all they were able to do was to move fast. So, they were not afraid.
Of course, even though they were not afraid, their experience still made them be on their guard. They maintained their formation and followed the leader as they slowly advanced.
Very soon, they left the beach and arrived at a hill.
The leading mercenary gestured for the team to stop. Then, he squatted down and his gloved hand grabbed a piece of dirt that was stained with blood. He squeezed it, then put it to his nose and fanned it to sniff it before he confirmed that it was blood.
Then, he said, “The creature that attacked us just now passed by here. Let’s carry on.”
As he said that, he stood up and moved forward.
Suddenly, the sound of sand rubbing against each other could be heard coming from the hill not far away, it was as if something was walking towards them.
The leading mercenary quickly gestured.
Instantly, the two teams changed their formation with their guns raised and prepared to fire.
Soon, a naked... Person walked out from the hill.
He looked a little strange as his whole body seemed to be limp and weak without any strength in him. Apart from that, his eyes had vertical pupils like those of a snake, but what was even more surprising was that... He had nothing at the bottom.
That’s right, he was completely bare from the waist down, no *sshole, no p*nis.
This shocked the leading mercenary. ‘What the hell is that thing?’
However, as a human’s instinct, he immediately warned, “Stop! Maintain your distance!”
The strange creature actually understood what he said and just stood there.
After he stopped, he squatted down as if he was ashamed and covered his body before he said, “Who... Who are you people?”
Instead of answering his question, the leading mercenary directly asked, “Who are you? Why are you on this island?”
Then, the strange creature was about to stand up and explain.
However, before he could stand up, “Bang!”, there was a gunshot. The bullet landed beside his feet and the mercenary leader’s warning sounded again. “Stop! This is your last warning! Do not come any closer!”
His method was very cautious and flawless. The strange creature had obviously noticed this, so he stopped pretending.
Hence, he stood up and shrugged helplessly. “I thought you guys were too boring and there was no way for us to communicate, so I attacked you directly. Now, it seems like I was right.”
Hearing this strange creature’s words, the leading mercenary was stunned for a moment before he reacted. “You’re the one who attacked us earlier?!”
The strange creature said, “Yes, that was me.”
He paused for a moment and an obedient smile appeared on his face. “I must say, you guys really made me look bad. So, I’ve ended up with no choice but to find a weapon.”
He spread his hands. “But, it’s all done now, I’ve found my weapon and your doom has arrived.”
The leading mercenary looked at him with shining eyes, as if he was really listening to what was being said. However, suddenly, the leading mercenary reached his hand into the air and made a forceful gesture.
When the team members who had long cooperated with him saw this gesture, they did not hesitate to aim their guns at the strange creature in front of them and pulled their trigger. “Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang!” Dozens of gunshots resounded throughout the entire Socot Island.
Accompanied by the sound of gunfire were the screams of the strange creature who had been shot before he collapsed in a pool of blood,
Then, the leading mercenary raised his hand and everyone stopped firing.
After that, the leading mercenary said, “No. 3, No. 5, go take a look.”
No. 3 and No. 5 immediately stood up. “Yes, sir!”
With that, they stepped forward to take a look.
After a while, they carried a corpse back to the team. The corpse was badly deformed and covered in blood.
No. 3 reported, “No breathing or pulse.”
The leading mercenary relaxed. He personally went forward to check again. After confirming that the strange creature was really dead, he waved his hand. “Team One, stay alert. Team Two, rest for ten minutes.”
After that, the two teams switched places. The people who had fired earlier sat down to rest, while the other team started to scope the perimeter.
The leading mercenary stood inside the perimeter and took out a walkie-talkie to communicate with the gang leader on the ship. “We’ve killed the creature that attacked us. However... It’s a little strange.”
The leader on the ship said, “What’s strange?”
The leading mercenary looked around warily as he explained the situation.
Outside the perimeter, the first group of mercenaries who had fired earlier were also conversing softly.
No. 8 asked, “No. 7, how does it feel to shoot for the first time on a mission?”
No. 7 smiled and said, “Awesome. It’s much better than being on land. Here, I can directly shoot someone to death. How awesome is that?”
He paused for a moment before continuing, “But that person was such a wimp, he just stood there and let us shoot him to death. No fun at all.”
No. 8 said mischievously, “you’re free to look at the corpse if you think it’s no fun at all.”
No. 8’s original intention was to scare No. 7, but he did not expect No. 7 to be an actual pervert whose eyes lit up as he said, “You’ve just reminded me, I’m going to enjoy admiring my “spoils of war”.”
Then, he stood up and walked towards the body.
His movement attracted the attention of Team Two, but when they saw that he was walking toward the body, they all turned their heads away.
No. 7 walked to the body and turned it over to examine it. The body was covered in blood, and it was riddled with bullet holes as if it had exploded.
Imagining that the body was still alive, he reached out to dig the bullet hole.
In the end, something strange happened. He realized that the inside of the “body” seemed to be very hard and he could not dig out the bullet. Instead, the bullet was stuck inside like it was embedded in a perfect metal mold.
He was confused. ‘Corpses don’t turn stiff that fast now, does it?’
Then, he took off his gloves and touched them again, but the corpse was still very hard.
He kept digging and digging, but the wound just would not move.
Hece, No. 7 felt like something was wrong. He gripped the gun tightly and pressed the muzzle against the mouth of the “corpse”. Then, he used some force to pry open the corpse’s mouth.
It looked like it was made of flesh and blood, but it was... Frozen. It looked like a wax statue that had been prepared long ago.
No. 7 was stunned before his heart was filled with terror. ‘What is this? Is he really a human?’
Then, he quickly tried to stand up and call his other teammates over to check.
At that very moment, the “corpse” suddenly opened its eyes, revealing a pair of snake-like eyes that glared at No. 7 like a demon from hell.
Instantly, No. 7 was dumbfounded!
As he screamed loudly, he pulled the trigger with all his might. The muzzle of the rifle shot out. “Bang, bang, bang, bang!” The sound of the automatic rifle rang through the entire perimeter!
Just like that, No. 7 held the gun against the corpse in front of him and fired a hail of bullets into its mouth! Apart from that, his actions had shocked his teammates.
On such a dangerous island, everyone was on edge even when they were resting.
At that moment, when gunshots suddenly came from inside the perimeter. Everyone stood up in shock, while some were turning around to check the situation and some screamed. Some of the more cowardly ones even pulled the safety out of their guns, prepared to protect themselves the moment something wrong happens!
Immediately, the scene was thrown into chaos.
On the other hand, the leading mercenary was shocked as well. He grabbed the walkie-talkie and looked in the direction of the gunshot.
Then, he saw one of his team members shooting at the body on the ground like a madman before he shouted, “What are you doing?!”
After that, the gunshots stopped and the other mercenaries were stunned by his roar before they regained their composure.
After the scene returned to normal, everyone turned to look at No. 7, who had shot the corpse.
No. 7 turned around and opened his mouth to say something.
In the end... “Swish!”, a silvery-white sword-like metal suddenly pierced out from the back of No. 7’s head. With a “Splat”, his head exploded like a watermelon!
Then, blood splattered everywhere, mixed with white brain matter which looked like fireworks.
Then, after the blood fell, all that was left on No. 7’s neck was the lower half of his jaw and a partial brain, which was both terrifying and eerily silent.
Instantly, everyone was stunned by what they had just seen, which was quickly followed by an uproar!
In an intense situation like this, the biggest taboo would be to have any sudden movement or excitement which could easily cause a person to go through a mental breakdown. Because of that, they would come up with all sorts of actions driven by their reflexes.
Hence, there were at least six or seven guns that were fired.
Some of the gunshots hit their teammates, some landed on the ground and some towards the sky. However, most of them landed on No. 7’s body and the monster behind him.
Immediately, the leading mercenary shouted and asked for everyone to remain calm.
