Chapter 388 Silver Ability Enhancement Voucher!
Yes, that’s right. praying.
It was as the word literally meant.
It was no joke, Su Yang and Little Deeny studied it through for half a day before they came to that conclusion. [Lucky Disfiguring Brick] had the ability to give its user luck, that alone was true. However, there were ways to guide it.
For example, Su Yang relied on guidance for luck to appear in [Extracting Bronze Ability] and [Adding Points To Items).]
Similarly, he could guide for his luck to appear in the movie.
How?
The answer was to do nothing and pray.
There were two benefits in doing this. One, since Su Yang did not do anything, there would be less chances of him triggering luck due to his actions. Furthermore, since he took the initiative to pray, it was more likely that luck would take effect on the movie.
Hence, Su Yang sat down like a fool after he was done hitting himself with the brick. Then, he closed his eyes and started praying. ‘I wish that the box office will explode! I wish that the box office will explode!”
‘I wish that the movie will continue to move on steadily, as steady as a rock.’
‘I hope more and more people will like my movie.’
Su Yang prayed for almost half an hour without doing anything except patiently waiting for time to pass.
[Finally, he opened his eyes and looked at the time. The countdown on the brick was at (00: 42].
“Out of the 30 minutes, I have been praying for 29 minutes. Whatever that should have happened should have already happened, whatever that isn’t supposed to happen won’t happen either.’
So, Su Yang turned on the system again, wanting to do something during the last two minutes.
His sight fixed on the achievement mission. He had completed two achievement missions and he could receive two Bronze Points. However... he did not have any ability that he wanted recently.
After all, he did not need to worry about food or clothing and had all kinds of abilities. If he had to choose, he would rather choose to add some points to his current abilities.
‘However, once I draw a Bronze ability from [Lucky Time), 3 similar abilities will appear and one will be chosen automatically. After that, there is no chance of leaving a Bronze Point, let alone adding a second second point.]
“Therefore, it would be better to keep it and wait for my lucky period to be over before I start drawing. Plus, there’s no expiry date to the points anyway.’ Su Yang’s gaze shifted from the achievement mission and he looked at the system shop.
System Shop?
‘Will my lucky period cause the system shop to refresh a fourth item?’
With that thought in mind, Su Yang clicked on [System Shop].
[The system shop opened. [Random Point]*5 (Guardian Talisman]*6
[Shoulder of Unknown Ability]*1
“There’s nothing new other than the 3 squares.’ Su Yang continued reading. ‘The last bronze panel is still the same as before. There’s only a rainbow question mark inside that says “Random Prize Voucher.”
Su Yang glanced at the countdown on the brick.
‘Only 17 seconds left.
‘I supposed it’s hopeless now.’ Just as Su Yang was about to close the system shop in disappointment, he suddenly felt his vision blur. A colorful light flashed across the system shop interface!
‘Huh?’ Su Yang caught a glimpse of the flash. This familiar feeling made him look at the last panel.
Just as he had expected, the colorful light on the fourth panel had disappeared and there was an award voucher which was the size of the [Advanced Life Transition Voucher).]
There were seven large words written on it, (Silver Ability Enhancement Voucher).
‘[Silver Ability Enhancement Voucher]?!’
Su Yang was stunned! ‘Could such a voucher... even appear so randomly?
‘Isn’t this lucky period too awesome?’
Just as Su Yang was lamenting, he saw a countdown on the charm. It read [00: 07).]
‘What the f*ck! Only seven seconds left?!’
Su Yang immediately clicked on it!
[Another notification popped up in front of him. (Are you sure you want to purchase a Silver Ability Enhancement Voucher? The price of the voucher is 6,000 coins.]
“6,000 coins!
‘That much?!
‘But... It’s worth it!
‘How much energy would it take to even get one silver point?
‘I have to earn 10 million yuan to receive a single point. In the future, I may even have to earn 100 million yuan or even 1 billion yuan just to receive a single point!
‘But now, I only need 6,000 coins to buy it. It’s obviously worth it!
‘But... Do I have that many coins?’
Su Yang raised his head and looked at how much he had, “7365”.
[He clicked on the (Purchase] button without hesitation. ‘If I don’t buy when I have enough coins, I’d be an absolute fool!’
After a glimmer of light flashed by, a thin certificate appeared in Su Yang’s hand. He only had 1,365 coins left.
The vouchers this time were different from the previous two times. This one was completely covered in silver and looked like a piece of silver foil. However, similar to the previous two vouchers, this voucher still felt cool to the touch and was fluttering around when he fiddled with it and a clear sound could be heard.
The voucher had beautiful patterns engraved on it. On it were the words “Silver Ability Enhancement”.
“This looks awesome!’
Su Yang carefully placed the voucer into a book and placed it in the drawer.
‘This is a treasure.
‘I almost used up all his savings just for this. I’d cry to death if I were to lose it by accident.’
As Su Yang put down the (Silver Ability Enhancement Voucher), the countdown on the brick ended. Looking at the brick that had returned to its normal state, Su Yang prayed for a moment. ‘I hope that all the luck this time will go to the movie...’
At the same time, at iQIYI in the Imperial Capital.
Normally, at 7pm every day, the recommendation for iQIYI would change automatically. The contents for each change had already been arranged beforehand and the operations department would have also set the time for the contents to be changed.
But... after 7pm, all the movies on the recommendations list were still up there untouched.
Initially, the operations department did not notice this, even the movie producers who were waiting for the recommendations to be refreshed had only thought that the schedule was delayed, so they did not pay much attention to it.
In the end, they began to lose their patience when the recommendations list was not refreshed by 7: 30 pm. Some movie producers could not wait any longer and called iQIYI’S operations department.
It was only then that the operations department of iQIYI realized that none of their advertisements had been updated.
‘What’s going on?”
When the supervisor who was responsible for changing the recommendation list received the news, he was so scared that he broke out in cold sweat. ‘It would’ve been fine if I missed out 1 or 2 movies, not when so many recommendations have not been refreshed at the same time. If word gets out, my bonus will be deducted!’
He quickly called his employees to ask them to change their recommendation spots as he logged into his server as well, hoping to find out what the reason was.
In the end, after logging in, he realized, ‘the data from the server has been changed. However, the ones on the website hasn’t. ‘What’s going on?’
After knowing that it was not because of him, the manager of the operations department sighed in relief. As he searched for the reason, he called the technical department to inform them of the situation.
The technical director had not gotten off work yet. After receiving the notification, he immediately arranged for his technician to get on the case.
However, something magical happened... after examining it for a long time, he could not find anything out of order.
This time, it was the technical director’s turn to be dumbfounded.
‘Nothing’s wrong? How’s that possible!’
The technical director took matters into his own hands and accessed the server himself, hoping to find the bug.
However, due to the large amount of data in IQIYI and the vast amount of codes for each end, he was not able to locate the bug for the problem even after conducting a lengthy check.
‘In that case, I’ve got no choice but to solve the problem first before solving the bug! I’ll manually change the recommendations list myself!’
Therefore, the technical department urgently contacted the operations department for the details including the pictures and locations for the recommendations list.
However, there were always problems with the cooperation between the two departments. There were too many advertisements on IQIYI, so it was inevitable for errors to occur when they tried to manually change the recommendations list.
Coincidentally... the recommendation spot for “Fighting The Buddha” had been missed...
This included the promotion on the desktop website, mobile website, mobile app and... various online movie platform advertisements.
Coincidentally, these were all locations for recommending movies that were not easy to detect while troubleshooting but were very effective.
After changing most of the recommendations, the technical department stopped investigating. Instead, they started to identify the bug.
However, it was as if a supernatural incident had happened. No matter how hard they tried, they could not find any bugs. However, the bug that caused the data on their servers to be unable to tally with their webpage persisted!
Fortunately, there weren’t too many problems. Therefore, after the technical director researched for a while, he decided to let the technical department conduct a thorough investigation on the matter. During that period of time, the recommendation spots would be changed manually by the technical department.
And so, the matter passed by albeit how strange it was.
[Also, “Fighting The Buddha” had been left hanging on a few recommendation spots without being changed... When the cooldown time for the brick ended, Su Yang opened up iQIYI’s server. ‘That’s strange, the data seems to be mostly the same. Even after the (Lucky Disfiguring Brick] had been activated for 30 minutes, the data hasn’t moved an inch!
‘This is very strange indeed. ‘Could the brick be ineffective?
‘No, instead of saying that it’s ineffective, it’s the opposite, isn’t it?
‘Previously, it could have made progress naturally, but why is there no changes now...’
Su Yang was stunned.
‘If the brick doesn’t work on the movie, I’m going to suffer a huge loss!
‘On second thought, I did obtain a (Silver Ability Enhancement Voucher) during my lucky period, so it’s not like I’ve completely lost.
‘The voucher alone is enough to compensate for everything!
‘After all, it’s equivalent to 1 silver point!
‘My top priority now should be to figure out which silver ability to use this on.
‘[Hands of Fate]? (Heaven’s Eyes)?
‘Both of these abilities are quite good, they’re both worth adding points onto.
‘Which should I choose...’
Just like that, he was troubled until the next day. Su Yang did not sleep the whole night, but he still looked energetic. After all, the (Three Days Without Sleep Halo) was still active.
At the same time, iQIYI’s box office rankings were about to be revealed...
Many people within the industry were paying attention to this ranking list, including Su Yang
‘Something seems to have happened with IQIYI’s server last night. The statistics have not been updated after so long. What’s going on...;’ The people within the industry were quietly chatting in their little group chat while waiting for the rankings list to be released.
‘How much do you think the box office for “Fighting The Buddha” will be today?’ ‘I think it’s going to fail, It probably won’t even exceed 1 million yuan.’ ‘Hold on, are you saying a movie’s going to fail if it manages to receive 1 million yuan? Isn’t your standard too high?’ ‘I was referring to the movie’s box office from the day before yesterday.’ ‘I think it’s going to fail as well. There are too many factors that caused the movie to receive a high box office previously. I don’t think yesterday’s box office will be as high as it was.’
