Chapter 382 I’m A Piece Of Trash
At that moment, a warning mechanism had been triggered inside of TikTok. This was because there was a video on TikTok that had exceeded the normal interaction rate, even to the point where it was more than twice the normal value! Immediately, the review team on duty at TikTok received the news.
Although TikTok’s artificial intelligence data screening was very powerful, they were still manually reviewed by TikTok’s personnel.
Strictly speaking, TikTok had a double safety mechanism. Artificial intelligence was the first mechanism, if there were any abnormalities, be it data anomalies or illegal involvement, it would be submitted for manual review after its warning mechanisms had been triggered.
Based on the development of artificial intelligence in the world at the time, it was still impossible for it to completely replace humans.
Therefore, the TikTok review department immediately received the video in question.
First, they limited the traffic pool for Su Yang’s video to stop his video from being added into new traffic pools. Then, they started the review.
Normally, the reviews would be cross-checked by 3 reviewers who would handle the video at the same time.
After watching and listening to Su Yang’s video, the 3 reviewers were stunned. They did not express their opinions immediately, not because they thought there was something wrong with the video, but because... Su Yang sang too well.
Soon after, their professionalism to their work allowed them to watch Su Yang’s video once more. After checking Su Yang’s data carefully and making sure that there was no problem, the first thing they did was to give it the green light. Once 3 green lights lit up, the limiter on Su Yang’s video had been lifted. The video then entered a new traffic pool for more users to
see.
That was not all. After the reviewers were done reviewing Su Yang’s video, they did not continue to review the next one. Instead, they opened Su Yang’s video and rewatched it for the third time.
Su Yang’s magnetic voice was intoxicating. After listening to it for the third time, they could sense that the video would become super popular!
Therefore, they immediately made a report to their superior.
Their supervisor had just returned home at 8 pm when he received the reports from his 3 subordinates. All 3 of them thought that the video would become popular, and that surprised him.
Therefore, as he took off his shoes and took out his phone to have a look. When he was done, he was stunned. Without even bothering to change his shoes. He just sat by the door and watched the video 3 or 4 times more before calling his leader to report the situation.
After reporting the situation, he called his subordinate and told them to move Su Yang’s video to the 10 million users traffic pool.
This was also the largest flow pool for TikTok which had 60 million users in total.
Although TikTok has hundreds of millions of active users every day, every user group have their own preferences for different types of videos.
Some users liked to watch comedic videos, some liked to watch song videos, some liked to watch cute pets etc. There were many different fields that could be derived into. Normally, unless it was a super popular video, it would not be uploaded into that traffic pool.
Based on the supervisor’s opinion, even if it was a super popular video, it would be more than enough for the video to be placed in that traffic pool. It was very rare to see a video that was able to be popular across different countries.
However... Su Yang’s video did not make sense at all.
Within the pool of 100,000 users, 70,000 to 80,000 users were amazed. When it was transferred to the pool of a million users, 600,000 to 700,000 users were amazed. In the pool of 10 million users, it still exploded!
60 million users, imagine the amount of people involved. Britain and France only had a population of 60 million users while Italy, Korea and Spain only had 40 to 50 million users!
Even the famous Maple Leaf Country only had a population of thirty million users!
That was twice the population in Canada!
Su Yang’s video was spreading like wildfire!
Coupled with the fact that 8pm to 12 pm was the time with the most active TikTok users, the video instantly became popular.
“Damn! This is the best song I’ve heard today!”
“Nonsense! This is the best song I’ve heard this week!”
“This month!”
“This year!”
“In my life!”
After being stacked by comments like these, many users started to leave even more comments. “To be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever heard a song that could move me so much, not even from celebrities!”
“I want the full version please!”
“It’s so good!”
“I even clicked into the uploader’s homepage and realized there was only one video in there.”
“I guess it’s a new account. I hope the uploader will sing more.”
“I’ve subscribed.”
A good video could easily attract fans, especially when the first video only contained half of the first video. Even if the users did not have obsessive compulsive disorder, they would be forced to be subscribed to Su Yang, hoping they would be able to listen to the full version.
Hence, Su Yang’s fan count soared from 10,000, 50,000, 100,000, 200,000...
With such a high-quality video, Su Yang’s number of fans had skyrocketed. The moment his video entered the 10 million users traffic pool, his number of fans had exceeded 500,000 people and was still rising steadily.
In the era where content was easily distributed, creating a miracle was probably the easiest. A video becoming popular and gaining tens of millions of fans was something that others could not ever possibly imagine. But this video was being born... Furthermore, it was not just TikTok. As the video was added into the 10 million users traffic pool, more and more users were attracted by the video and began to search for the original song.
Based on Baidu, the number of searches for the lyrics and the title of the song increased exponentially.
The search on NetEase Cloud Music soared and grew popular as well.
After they heard it... they thought that the original was very normal.
‘If the song is average, that means... is it all because the person sang it well?!
After listening to the original song and listening to Su Yang’s song, the fans realized how good Su Yang’s singing was. Actually, the original singer of this song was also a professional singer, but compared to Su Yang, he was like a primary school student. Therefore, as the number of fans who admired Su Yang grew, they started criticising the original singer.
“You think you’re qualified to sing this song?!”
“You sing so terribly!”
“It’s TikTok. Say your prayers before you leave.”
“He sings so terribly.”
“Let’s all spit on it before we leave.”
The original singer, Xiao Lou was speechless.
Xiao Lou was the original singer of “This Lifetime Scenery About You” and he was also a composer. Initially, he was very happy when he saw that his song was on the Top Chinese Music Chart and the Top Popularity Chart. However, when he opened the comments section and saw the bunch of brainless haters, he was stunned. ‘What do they mean by TikTok? What do they mean by my singing is terrible?
‘Isn’t my song popular because of me?’
At that moment, his manager sent him a video. He opened WeChat and saw a video on TikTok.
He did not know how to react. ‘Why is it TikTok again? I don’t like this platform. It feels very cheap and seems to be targeted at the much younger generation.’
But because it was sent by his manager, he still clicked on it.
When he clicked in, he saw a masked man was singing.
The masked man plucked the strings of the zither lightly and played the prelude with his fingers. However, when Xiao Lou, the original singer, heard the prelude, he immediately felt energized and goosebumps appeared on his arms.
He could not help but feel a little surprised. “This guitar playing, its tone sounds way too good. Also, how did he manage to make it sound so good by just casually playing a few chords?’
Before Xiao Lou could finish gasping, the masked man opened his mouth slightly and his deep voice came through the phone’s speaker. “The lights in the distance are shining, and you’re alone on the road...” “There’s no special effects, no chords that have high difficulty, only a faint chant, a faint murmur.
‘However, there’s a certain loneliness, the kind of loneliness that strikes straight to the heart.’
Xiao Lou froze and every single hair on his body was raised. This is the first time I realize how good my song actually is! Is this really my song?! “The slowed tempo, the deep magnetic sound and the crisp sound. Is this what it feels like to have all of these combined together?’
Xiao Lou listened to Su Yang’s song for a minute while he was in a daze, immediately replaying the video when it was finished. When the video was over again, he replayed it again and listened to it for the third time.
Just like that, he listened to it more than 10 times. Then, he looked at his phone, completely dumbfounded.
SO
Suddenly, he felt like he understood something. ‘I now know why the fans came up and scolded me for singing badly. Compared to this person, my singing is indeed terrible...
‘Is this the end of my career?’
Xiao Lou forced a bitter smile. He could not accept the fact.
Gritting his teeth, he went to the study room to retrieve his guitar. Then, he started to imitate Su Yang as he watched the video.
As a singer who could also compose his own songs and lyrics, he was capable of playing the guitar. However, when he tried to imitate Su Yang’s guitar playing style, he realized, ‘This is impossible, I can’t seem to reach his level.
‘It’s either my guitar is of lower quality than his, or I’m the one who’s weaker than him.
‘When I first heard his singing earlier, I was not as deeply touched as others might claim to be. However, when I actually tried to sing it myself, that’s when I realized how incredible this person is.
‘How on Earth did he do it?!
‘How is it that such a simple tune sounds so different when this person performs it?
‘He must be cheating!’ After pondering for half of the day, Xiao Lou was in despair. ‘It’s becoming much harder for me to hope to reach this masked man’s level as time passes. “There’s no comparison between us at all. The difference in skill between us is like night and day.’
Disheartened, he immediately posted on Weibo. ‘My singing is indeed terrible!!!’
He wrote 3 exclamation marks to show how unsettled his heart was.
At this moment, Su Yang’s video had already become so popular that it could no longer be contained within TikTok. More and more users started discussing the topic on WeChat, Weibo, QQ music etc.
Therefore, even though the video had just entered the 10 million users traffic pool, there were already users on Weibo who were well aware of the existence of the video. For example, the fans of the original singer were the first wave of users to see the video due to its unbelievable data produced.
Therefore, when the original singer posted on Weibo, his fans started feeling sorry for him.
“Is my dear Xiao Lou angry?”
“Xiao Lou, you shouldn’t bother yourself with that person. You sang much better than him!”
“That’s right, that’s right. I still prefer your style of singing.”
