Chapter 307 Lin Jiali Steps In
Su Yang spoke regularly but Director Wang replied in a much louder voice. As he bellowed, it suddenly attracted the attention of the surrounding people.
Seeing a young man who looked like he was only seventeen or eighteen years old being shouted at angrily by the director caused the onlookers to cautiously crowd around.
After all, the director was rather angry.
Although the producer was the boss of the entire project, the director was the emperor during filming and on the set. The cast and crew were required to listen to the orders of the director.
Since they were all under the director’s command, how would they dare to meddle in his affairs.
This was why Director Wang dared to be so arrogant.
Because he was the director, there weren’t many people in the crew that he cared for aside from investors and producers. Even the producer had to defend the director’s authority on the set because he was the main person in charge of the film’s shoot.
This was also the reason why he dared to stand up to veteran actors despite only being a small-time director.
So when he heard that Su Yang was a small on-set producer, he relaxed a lot because he knew that he could take on the other party at will.
It wasn’t that he hadn’t considered the fact that the instructions may have come from Producer Zhao. After observing the young man who was about to swap him out for another director earlier, he saw Producer Zhao objecting to it, looking rather gloomy after his objection. It was clear that Producer Zhao was facing some problems with this onsite producer in front of him.
As for Su Yang’s relationship with Producer Zhao, he didn’t even think that Producer Zhao would stand up for Su Yang.
Since they were already shooting, he would still have to uphold the director’s authority on set even if he were a producer. Even if Su Yang had a good relationship with Producer Zhao, the producer would still have to stand by his side so the shoot could proceed smoothly.
Still, it was now the shooting period, even if it was a producer, he still had to uphold the director’s authority on the set, and even if Su Yang had a relationship with Producer Zhao, in order for the movie to go on smoothly, Producer Zhao would have to stand by his side.
After all, Su Yang’s matter was so outrageous that he actually threatened to change the director, which already involved his own core interests. Producer Zhao had no reason to step in.
When he encountered this kind of thing, he couldn’t let it go. After all, if you let such a transgression go so lightly, would you still have authority in the crew?
If that were to happen, even the minor actors wouldn’t listen to him any longer let alone the main actor.
As it so happened, there were some people in the crew who had been speaking ill about him behind his back. So, he decided to rid himself of those worms to set an example to the rest.
Those thoughts crossed his mind as he was making a decision. Then, he pointed at Su Yang and yelled. “Are I the one who’s in need of this job or is it you guys?!
“I had a feeling there was something wrong with the crew’s box lunches yesterday. I ate it and went home just to experience half a day of diarrhoea. Did you get some expired box lunches?!”
The onsite producer is in charge of everything in the set, so the box lunch was, in principle, within the scope of the onsite producer’s responsibility.
The crew members watching things unfold from a short distance whispered, “Why is this suddenly about boxed lunches?”
Someone who knew what the director was up to whispered, “Director Wang is planning to fire this young man so he’s looking for a reason to do so. After all, firing him directly would make it seem like retaliation. Having a proper reason will make it seem more legitimate.”
The person who asked the question nodded knowingly but still said, “But I remember the director going out last night for a meal at the restaurant. What boxed lunch are we talking about here?”
The six interns from Su Yang’s company also noticed what happened to him and began gossiping about it. The one called Mei Yue, who was friendly with everyone, bit her tongue and said, “I’m going to tell Sister Jiali about this.”
The girl scrambled to hold her back and cautioned her, “What are you going to say to Sister Jiali?”
Mei Yue’s big beautiful eyes turned around to look at her teammates. “He’s her friend. We can’t keep her in the dark when her friend is getting bullied like this!”
That girl lowered her voice and said, “You’re very familiar with Sister Jiali’s temper. If she sees her friend being bullied, she’s going to explode with rage. If you go to her, you’re just adding fuel to the fire. What if she gets kicked out along with this young man? That guy bullying him is none other than the... director!”
Hearing her own team member say that, Mei Yue’s expression was suffused with a hesitant look as the foot she took a step with stopped in its place.
The girl who had been threatened by the director had her head down and her hands clenched so tightly that her palms were white, and so did the rest of the crew.
Some knew that Director Wang was taking advantage of the situation while others some couldn’t see past it. However, they didn’t dare to step up for fear of stirring up trouble, being only able to whisper, “Hey, I guess this guy’s going to get unlucky.”
“Definitely unlucky. Who wouldn’t be unlucky to mess with the director on site like this?”
“But our director is a real idiot.”
“Silence! Do you want to lose your job too?”
Those that were watching the entire scene unfolding right in front of their eyes around didn’t know that Director Wang actually enjoyed the fearful expressions of the surrounding crew.
He was once an assistant to the director, serving the director every day. He served tea and water and had to satisfy every whim an order that the director threw at him. To put it nicely, he was a director’s assistant. However, if put bluntly, he was just like an eunuch! If the director wanted to break the rules, he had to be there to support the director’s crazy decisions!
So during those months, he swore to himself that he was going to be a director one day! He’d be able to do anything around the set, hook up with beautiful women, and bully actors.
Now, he had done it. He was the director although it was just a Netbig film that would be shot over a week!
Thinking of this, the gaze he had on Su Yang was filled with even more contempt. Although this person might have said that to the lead actor to ease the conflict, he was going to make this young man pay for it if he dared to mention a change of directors!
He didn’t hesitate to say, “What kind of shitty onsite producer are you when you can’t even prepare edible box lunches?! I think you don’t have to continue this job anymore!”
“Security! Throw him out!” He was talking as if he was the emperor in charge of the lives and deaths of everyone on this film set.
He longed to look at Su Yang’s fearful eyes and to see him beg for forgiveness. He wanted to see the crew’s awe-inspiring gaze.
The crew was small and there were only two security guards already observing this side of the situation from afar.
It was just apparent that this was like a dispute between the producer and the director so they didn’t know if they should involve themselves at the moment.
They cautiously looked at Producer Zhao and found that he was still looking down at his phone with no reaction. So, they hesitantly walked up to him.
Just when they were about to approach Su Yang, a woman’s beautiful voice was suddenly heard, “Who dares to touch him?!”
In the middle of the conversation, a woman wearing a red dress while girding her waist rushed over from a short distance away as a black kitten slowly followed her while she rolled her eyes.
Lin Jiali, obviously looked like she was just learning to adapt to running in high heels as an actress. She rushed in with a five-centimetre heel, took a few steps and stood in front of Su Yang, glaring at the security guard next to her. “He’s my friend, I want to see who dares to touch him!”
Although Lin Jiali only had a small role in this film, she was still the female main character. So, the two security guards were even more embarrassed. They stopped in their tracks, unmoving
They were embarrassed, but Director Wang was not.
His face was beet red. He thought that Su Yang was the only one disobeying him as the new onsite producer. However, he didn’t expect that a mere actor would dare confront him as well.
He angrily said to Lin Jiali, “Lin Jiali! What are you doing? Do you not want to act anymore in this film?!”
Director Wang used this sentence to intimidate more than one actor. Those who were intimidated by him were afraid, and immediately acted in accordance with his requirements.
He used the same phrase on the other actor last night as well.
In his opinion, every actor was frightened of this sentence. All the other actors, along with Lin Jiali, should be even more fearful when they heard this sentence. After all, she was the female lead.
However, who knew that Lin Jiali would reach down and take off her high heels so they could throw them at his feet as she stylishly replied. “Who cares?! I couldn’t care less if I don’t act in this film!”
Saying that, she pulled Su Yang aside, “Come! Let’s go out for a drink! Drinks are on me!”
After that, she also whispered in Su Yang’s ear, “Don’t be too touched, I’ve been longing to go on this strike.”
‘Hmm... [Heaven’s Eye) is telling me that she’s telling the truth.’]
However, Su Yang also knew that even if she didn’t like acting the part of the female lead in this film, she would definitely keep her job if it wasn’t for him. After all, no one would say no to money.
And although she said it lightly, the strike thing would still have a significant impact on her reputation. In the future, any director who wanted to find her for a film would probably reconsider if they heard this rumour.
To be able to do this for him, Su Yang felt... She was a good friend.
Since she dared to stick up for him, Su Yang certainly wouldn’t let her charge ahead on her own.
So he pulled Lin Jiali to his side, looked at Director Wang, and said in a clouded voice, “You’re the one who doesn’t want this job anymore, right? Do you look like a director at all? Do you really have the basic qualities of a director?”
Director Wang’s eyes were a little red as he looked at Su Yang. He was now overwhelmed with anger.
He had felt that Su Yang had created so much trouble for him already, but he didn’t expect another actress to pop up!
How dare someone simple trample upon a director’s authority! How dare they not respect him as the king of this set?
Thinking of this, he couldn’t stand it any longer and yelled directly at Su Yang, “It’s not for you to judge whether I have the fucking quality as a director or not!” “Who are you to tell me what to do. You’re just a shitty onsite producer!
“Get the f*ck out of here! Get the f&ck out of here, both of you! Get off my set!”
Saying that, Director Wang yelled at the two security guards, “What are you still standing for! Why aren’t you throwing them out yet!”
Just as he was saying that.
Suddenly, he felt a flash of light!
Smack!
It was the sound of the papers dumped in his face!
The next thing he knew, he felt another kick to the stomach that caused him to stumble to the ground before he could even react!
His mind went blank as he was completely confused about what was going on.
Then he saw the onsite producer, whom he despised, pointing at the director who was now on the ground and cursing, “Do you think you deserve to call yourself a director? You think you’re so great?”
As he spewed those words, the onsite producer came over, picked up the papers on the floor, slapped them in his face, and snapped! “Look at what this is! It’s a termination letter! From now on! You. Are. Fired!”
