Su Yang’s advertisement was indeed hard selling because he had only put on his mask during those ten minutes. Then, he said to the camera, “Hey, my fans. I’ve recently discovered a movie that’s really good called “Fighting The Buddha”. It’s being broadcasted on iQIYI. Everyone should watch it. The movie is really awesome and its special effects are amazing. It’s practically the best domestically produced movie at the moment.”
‘Yeah... that should do it.
‘Anyway, no one knows who’s behind the mask so it’s fine for me to exaggerate however I want.
‘Advertisements are meant to be hard selling anyway.
‘It’s supposed to be exaggerating.’
And so came the most hard selling advertisement in history...
Many fans who had watched the video and the advertisement started to doubt it. ‘We can understand that you’re trying to advertise the movie, but can you not promote it so directly? It sounds so fake...
‘We could somewhat understand even if you were to promote it directly, but could you not promote it while you’re recording a song?
‘You were actually so lazy that you recorded an advertisement and pieced it together with your music video!
‘Both parts of the recording had different settings, locations, and clothes. Other than the mask and the person in it being the same, there are no connections between the 2 recordings and were forcefully edited together. It’s a complete insult to your fan’s intelligence...’
‘Is the uploader contracted to advertisements now?’
‘Is this free advertising? I’m guessing other advertisers would be so mad when they see this.’
‘Isn’t this too forceful already? It’s literally 2 separate videos being edited together. Can’t you record it while you’re recording your song?’
‘Did anyone notice that these music videos all seem to be recorded in the same setting, the same clothes? It’s even recorded in the same angle. Could he have sang all of it in 1 sitting?’
Many people suddenly realized it after it was mentioned.
Netizens are always the people who had the most free time. Ever since they found out about this, they started to compare Su Yang’s videos.
The more they compared, the more surprised they were because the videos were indeed from the same setting and he was wearing the same outfit, even the creases on his clothes were similar.
This meant that the videos were recorded on the same day, maybe even recorded in 1 sitting.
Actually, it was public knowledge that music videos online were a result of the same song being recorded dozens of times. Then, the uploader would select the better ones through the litter, edit the voice and choose the best one to upload as their final product. This was also why music videos online were much better than singing live.
But now... someone had actually sang 7 to 8 songs in 1 sitting and every song was sung well which was simply unheard of!
This speculation attracted many reposts and comments.
Many people were speculating whether Su Yang had recorded it on the same day whilst they were also discussing his shameless commercial being edited together with his music video.
This made the video even more popular than usual.
Very soon, someone managed to obtain evidence through a very soft voice within the music video, a woman was requesting for a specific song.
Then someone noticed some other voices in the audio.
The truth had been revealed, Su Yang’s videos were recorded during his live performance and then cropped out.
The fans who heard about this news were all shocked. ‘Could this be real? He’s actually able to sing so well in a live performance. This is something that many famous singers fail to do!’
Hence, with the help of those videos, Su Yang’s cover songs instantly went viral on the internet.
Ever since TikTok used one of Su Yang’s music videos as an advertisement and obtained a bunch of new users, they would promote Su Yang’s music videos again whenever he uploaded it. This time, they would not miss the opportunity.
They went according to their standard procedure and used Su Yang’s muic video as a promotional video to upload it onto Zhihu and Weibo.
Many users who were not using TikTok had also downloaded TikTok because of the promotional video. They did so to be subscribed to Su Yang and to be able to listen to his cover songs.
Even though TikTok had intentionally hid the second half of Su Yang’s music video, those who downloaded TikTok for Su Yang very naturally scrolled through his music videos in 1 sitting.
Of course... they would watch the most awesome, most hard selling advertisement as well.
After reading it, all of them were stunned. ‘What a hard selling advertisement. Plus, it’s been edited together? Isn’t that too shameless? Has the advertisement company offended you?
However, it depended on each person to determine if it was a hard selling advertisement or not. Perhaps it was because they had seen too many soft advertisements previously that their curiosity had been piqued the moment they saw such a hard selling advertisement. ‘Is this movie really that awesome? Is it worth advertising it so strongly?’
As a normal online movie, “Fighting The Buddha” could not escape the inevitable fate of only being popular for a short amount of time.
After continuously promoting the movie for a week and stabilizing for another half a month, the box office began to plummet.
Of course, it was a straight decline. Compared to the tens of thousands of yuan in box office for “Xu Qingling” which had been released in the same period, “Fighting The Buddha” was still extremely stable, its box office was approximately 300,000 yuan per day.
After more than three weeks of screening, the total box office of “Fighting The Buddha” reached 35 million yuan.
It seemed that achieving 40 million yuan would not be an issue.
As the summer vacation was coming to an end, there would be other movies that would take advantage of the summer vacation as well.
For example, there was a new A-rank online movie, “New Justice Bao In The Snow Valley”.
This movie’s momentum was not bad as soon as it was released. It had taken over the throne of “Fighting The Buddha” with a box office of 958,000 yuan on the first day, 1,309,000 yuan on the second day and 917,000 day on the third day. Its momentum was very stable.
As the producer of this movie, Liuye Pictures was also very excited. Even though it was the almost end of the summer break, it was still something worth celebrating since they won a few box office awards.
After all, they would be able to brag about it if they were the champion for that summer’s highest box office award.
In the end... when Thursday’s box office rankings were released, they were dumbfounded.
“New Justice Bao In The Snow Valley”, 852,000 yuan.
This was a very normal result, but... the most shocking thing was that “Fighting The Buddha” actually made a comeback with an increase in their box office at 998,700 thousand yuan.
Although it did not break the 1 million yuan barrier, it still surpassed the newly released “New Justice Bao In The Snow Valley”.
This crazy box office performance stunned the production company of “Justice Bao”. They had wanted to win a few more awards so that they could receive more investments for the next movie. Who would have thought that they would spiral down into failure just as their movie was released.
The box office sales of ‘”Fighting The Buddha”‘ also surprised the people in the online movie industry.
‘Why has its box office suddenly exploded again?
‘This movie’s box office is way too scary.
‘Could it have been tampered with?’
However, as soon as this suspicion was aroused, the news that the most popular singer on TikTok had inserted an advertisement for “Fighting The Buddha” at the end of his latest music video began to spread.
The people who had been doubting the data immediately shut up.
If that amount of fans were to promote “Fighting The Buddha” and bring up its box office again, it would be understandable.
After understanding the situation, the people within the industry no longer cared.
Oh... it affected “Justice Bao” from the crown...
The production company for “Justice Bao” was on the verge of tears since they were on the steady road to victory before it got cut off.
And what would sadden them even more was yet to come. Over the next few days, the box office of “Fighting The Buddha” stabilized at around 1 million yuan, putting “Justice Bao” below them for four days in a row.
When the popularity of “Fighting The Buddha” died down and dropped back to 300,000 yuan, the box office for “Justice Bao” was only at 230,000 yuan...
Therefore, three days after becoming the champion, “Justice Bao” remained below “Fighting The Buddha” for the entire week.
On the other hand, “Fighting The Buddha” had miraculously won the weekly box office championship again. It had even continued to steadily hole onto the highest box office in 1 day after having it had been overtaken for 3 days...
While the box office was soaring, Su Yang was not idling around either. He had been thinking of ways to use the [Unlimited Driving Certificate].
However, after thinking about it for a long time, he realized that he only wanted to use it on Chu Xia.
‘But... do I still have to use it on Chu Xia?
‘I think I should be the one who needs to have my affinity unlocked for her instead.’
However, Su Yang was also curious about how Chu Xia felt about him. Hence, after thinking for a long time, Su Yang still called Chu Xia to ask her out.
Unfortunately, Chuxia said that she wasn’t in Shanghai at the time and would not tell Su Yang where she was when he asked.
He asked her if she could come back before the 1st of September, but Chu Xia said that it was unlikely after hesitating for a while.
And so... he failed his first objective.
‘Is there another girl that I would like to unlock their affinity other than Chu Xia?’
After some thought, Su Yang felt that Lin Jiali was the only one.
Thus, he tried to trick Lin Jiali into returning to Shanghai. However, even after several days, Lin Jiali did not fall for his trick since she had gone to film the big production that she had previously mentioned, hence she did not have time to return to Shanghai.
Both candidates were out of town and had no time to come back. Hence, Su Yang was out of candidates.
In the end, he decided to take things one step at a time. Perhaps he would meet someone whose affinity he wanted to unlock later on.
‘If all else fails, I’ll just wait for the 31st of August and choose someone randomly from the streets. I’ll try using the item and see what functions it has rather than wasting it.
‘Of course... this is the worst case scenario.’
In the blink of an eye, it was Monday. Su Yang received a call from Li Runze early in the morning.
Li Runze asked, “Where?”
Su Yang was playing with Dagger Girl in the backyard. Both Quickgold Monsters scurried around them, causing the backyard to be filled with laughter.
Su Yang replied, “At home.”
The genius replied, “Welcoming new students today, you coming?”
Su Yang looked at the time. “Isn’t it still early?”
The genius replied, “We need to account for traffic on the way.”
‘That makes sense...
‘However, why is the genius welcoming new students as well?’
Su Yang asked, “Why are welcoming new students anyway?”
The genius said concisely, “Mission from Student Union.”
‘Wow... Even the genius has joined the Student Union?’
Su Yang asked, “Which department are you in?”
The genius said coldly, “The learning department.”
Su Yang was confused.
‘Is there such a department in the Student Union? What’s it for? Is it specifically for learning?’
Su Yang, who was clueless about the Student Union, was confused.
However, since he had someone he knew, Su Yang felt that he would not be bored today.
‘There are only two more days left before September ends, if he doesn’t use the [Unrestricted Driver’s License] now, this month’s quota will expire. Who knows, I might be able to find the perfect opportunity to use it today!’
With that thought in mind, he packed up and got Pan Zhaodi to drive him to the train station.
