On a chilly winter night,
one could lift their eyes to see a pale, almost transparent layer of blue and purple gauze stretched across the sky, deep and wide, with scattered stars set within, while silvery moonlight draped over the mountains below, like a serene and mystical painting.
A city with dimmed lights.
Home to the Morgan Group’s Asia-Pacific Branch.
A brand-new office, its core area dominated by a black solid wood desk, with a surface so smooth and flat it almost reflected the face of Yu Qin sitting beside it, very cold.
As for the rest, the coffee table, tea sets, plants, wall-mounted art, and so on were all absent.
The air still carried a slightly stale odor.
Clearly, this office had just been put into use.
As for the reason,
the original office could no longer be used.
Tap tap tap.
Lucas, sitting in a wheelchair, slapped the armrest furiously and cursed, "A bunch of trash!"
Sitting opposite him, Yu Qin crossed her arms and maintained a cold expression, simply glancing up at Lucas with an indifferent look and remaining silent.
Just then, Lucas had thoroughly berated his team of hackers.
His curses were as foul as could be.
Because, after spending three whole days sifting through every nook and cranny of Morgan Group’s internal network, top to bottom,
they finally discovered several unidentifiable programs, deeply hidden and disguised as system programs on Lucas’s computer, monitoring all the information on his computer, including his peripherals, mainly the sound receivers.
Tracing back,
they found these programs had sneaked in during a data theft from the Hass Armed Forces’ weapon systems.
Lucas was livid.
Disregarding his injured knee and maneuvering his wheelchair, he yelled at the incompetent hackers until he was blue in the face, hoping to vent his frustration.
But no amount of cursing could help.
Lucas and Yu Qin had no choice but to immediately cease using the internal network and move out of their original office to set up a temporary office in what resembled an unfinished shell, stripped of its plaster.
The key point was,
aside from the two mobile phones they possessed, there were no other electronic devices in the office.
Once bitten, twice shy.
Their seemingly flawless plan was decrypted and outdone by Lin Chuan, who had bugged their conversations. To avoid repeating the same mistake, they resorted to isolating their network to prevent another intrusion by Lin Chuan.
Lucas was still seething with resentment!
At that moment, she finally understood why Keke had insisted on bringing Lin Chuan in as an ally.
Damn!
This web novel writer really had something!
If he had joined them, not just the Asia-Pacific Branch, but the entire Morgan Group might have made a qualitative leap, possibly even dominating the Underworld!
However, this web novel writer now stood on the opposing side, and reconciliation seemed highly unlikely.
The only solution: eliminate him.
Sigh—
Lucas took a deep breath, calming his angry and restless heart before turning to Yu Qin.
He said, "Yu, I bear most of the responsibility for this matter, but Lin Chuan is too cunning. My worthless team just couldn’t anticipate every move."
Yu Qin harrumphed, "Now you finally admit that your hacker team is worthless, but what happened to the might of previously rivalling AW and beating down Lin Chuan?"
Yu Qin was furious.
She’d paid a heavy price for this round of conflict.
Her previously close contact, the turban guy, had already begun reaching out to Lin Chuan. According to reliable information, the two were planning to meet, with the turban guy wishing to order weapons from Lin Chuan.
The turban guy was wealthy, a significant client of Yu Qin.
If even this major customer defected, her military weapons business would take a massive hit, plummeting off a cliff.
While reflecting on this conflict, Yu Qin suddenly thought of the words "Waterloo."
Because of this, she’d suffered insomnia for three full days.
Now, she was still sporting dark circles under her eyes.
"Uh."
In front of his subordinates, Lucas would give powerful speeches, but when faced with the mastermind Yu Qin, the core and commander of the team, he had no room to argue.
Yu Qin had commanded him to steal weapons information from the Haas Armed Forces as evidence.
Since he botched the job, he was left holding the bag.
Lucas, turning his anger to sorrow with a deep sigh, finally admitted he was out of his depth, "Yu, I know you’re angry, but let’s not dwell on that. With hacker skills like Lin Chuan’s, which even AW can’t counter, I have no solution either."
The evening breeze blew into the room, whooshing strongly. The already icy atmosphere seemed to drop a few more degrees.
Yu Qin stood up to make herself a cup of coffee.
She gently stirred her spoon, the steam dissipating in the evening wind. Only after taking a sip did her heart calm somewhat.
She steadied her coffee and looked at Lucas, "Now is not the time to assign blame. The urgent matter at hand is to address Sania’s lawsuit from the National Weapons Research Institute and, at the same time, to deal with... Lin Chuan!"
Lucas wheeled himself closer to the black desk, leaning forward, "Yu, do you have any good plan now?"
Yu Qin shook her head, "A good plan? No longer."
"This..."
Lucas’s mouth twitched.
He may have been able to speak on management matters, but when it came to strategy, he somewhat relied on Yu Qin.
Knock knock knock.
A knock on the door echoed.
Lucas turned to look; it was his secretary, dressed in an OL uniform, a white blouse, black skirt, and black tights, both attractive in appearance and figure.
Yet he had no interest, "Speak if you have something to say."
The secretary glanced at him, then at Yu Qin. The atmosphere was all wrong, and she felt stage fright, her voice a few notches quieter, "General Manager, Miss Yu, you’ve asked me to monitor Lin Chuan’s movements, and I have an update to report."
