Xia Qingqing furrowed her brow.
She began to work with split screens on her laptop.
On the left was the "International Forum-Underworld" post about "Drug No. 3," and on the right was a small portion of the information about "new-type drugs."
The contents of both screens entered her field of view, focusing mainly on their symptomatic presentations.
Suddenly!
Xia Qingqing's breathing became rapid, her pupils shrank, and a look of astonishment quickly spread across her face.
At that moment, Xia Qingqing moved from a reclining to a sitting position, involuntarily.
She stared intently at the screens and re-examined the symptoms of "Drug No. 3" against the "new-type drugs" in her possession.
Whew—
Xia Qingqing's breathing grew even more hurried, her chest heaving.
The symptoms of these two types of "addictive drugs" had an astonishing overlap of ninety percent.
"Could 'Black Ice's' Drug No. 3 possibly be the new-type drug we are looking for?"
Xia Qingqing swallowed hard and murmured to herself.
The ninety percent overlap wasn't about having ten percent of irreconcilable differences, but rather that the symptomatic presentation of the "new-type drugs" she held was ninety percent identical to that of "Drug No. 3."
The remaining ten percent was not covered in her materials.
Being a professional cyber police officer, she naturally understood what a ninety percent coincidence rate implied.
That is to say, there was a high probability that Drug No. 3 was indeed the new-type drug!
Two whole days of investigation had yielded no leads, yet during the process of reading a novel, she had unintentionally stumbled upon what seemed to be the closest to the truth!
It's as if after a fruitless search far and wide, success comes when you least expect it.
Whew—
Xia Qingqing took a deep breath, attempting to steady her emotions.
Then she took out her phone and dialed a number.
Not Lin Chuan's, but she called Yu Shan, the captain of the Anling Cyber Security Detachment.
The details of "Drug No. 3" from Lin Chuan's novel "Black Ice" had a high degree of symptom overlap with the "new-type drugs" she was investigating, but whether the two were in fact the same substance was not for her to decide. Professional personnel were needed to conduct professional experiments and assessment.
Therefore, she needed to consult with Captain Yu Shan.
Dut-dut-dut—
After three rings,
Yu Shan picked up the phone: "Officer Xia, what's the matter?"
Xia Qingqing took in a deep breath and then said, "Captain, I've found some data that might be related to the new-type drugs."
On the other end of the phone.
Yu Shan suddenly felt elated, his voice eager, "You found it so quickly?"
Xia Qingqing glanced at the "International Forum-Underworld" on the screen and smiled, replying, "I found it by accident, but I can't guarantee its authenticity."
"Just having a lead on such a difficult case is already very good. As for its authenticity, let's leave that to the laboratory to verify," Yu Shan said cheerily over the phone.
"Okay, I'll pass the materials to the laboratory tomorrow for verification."
Xia Qingqing nodded.
"Where did you find this information?" Yu Shan asked curiously.
Xia Qingqing's mouth twitched into an awkward smile, "You might find it hard to believe, but I found it within a novel."
"Ah?"
On the other side of the phone, Yu Shan was momentarily stunned, "You found it in a novel?"
As soon as Yu Shan heard "found it in a novel," he couldn't help but be incredulous. Novels were full of fabrication and imagination.
Could information from a novel really be reliable?
Certainly not!
Who would take fiction seriously? If people found out, wouldn't it be laughable?
"Er, Captain, I also find it a bit far-fetched, but after carefully comparing the detailed symptoms of Drug No. 3 from the novel with our data, I found a high level of concordance. That's why I immediately reported it to you," Xia Qingqing explained.
"Hmm!"
Yu Shan took a sharp breath before saying, "You mean, the symptoms, the relevant symptoms we have of the 'new-type drugs,' match up?"
"Yes," Xia Qingqing confirmed.
"A novel, can it be fabricated, huh?" Yu Shan guessed.
"I'm not sure whether it's fabricated or not, but the novel also records detailed production steps, as well as the related raw materials and equipment used. The key part is missing, but for the laboratory side, that should not pose a great difficulty," explained Xia Qingqing.
"This novel, it's written in so much detail?" Yu Shan couldn't help but ask.
Xia Qingqing smiled, "Captain, you must have read Comrade Lin Chuan's novels before. His writing is always very detailed."
"Written by Comrade Lin Chuan?" Yu Shan's expression was once again one of surprise.
The name 'Lin Chuan' was all too familiar to him.
One could say that every team leader in the various detachments of the Anling police station had dealt with Lin Chuan in some capacity.
And importantly, Chief Zhang Biao was a fan of Lin Chuan's books, often recommending them to others.
How could Yu Shan not have read them?
Initially, Yu Shan had his doubts hearing that Xia Qingqing had found the information in a novel, thinking how if he took this information to the laboratory and told them:
This comes from raw materials, equipment, and production steps extracted from a novel.
They would surely see him as a naïf and even think he was playing a hoax on them!
Hard to explain.
But with 'Lin Chuan' as a reference, it became much easier to explain.
If worst came to worst, he could bring up Chief Zhang Biao.
"Yes, it's a novel Comrade Lin Chuan posted on the foreign internet, which I just happened to read tonight," Xia Qingqing said.
"Alright, organize the material and I'll accompany you to the laboratory tomorrow to see if this information holds up," Yu Shan said.
