The slanting sun was gradually setting, painting the sky with shades of orange and red twilight. Unconsciously, dusk had fallen, and a gentle evening breeze brought a touch of coolness, rustling the leaves.
In Lin Chuan's small rented room, the tightly drawn curtains allowed the golden glow of sunset to peek through, casting a pale yellow light that draped over Lin Chuan and the Little Landlady, as if accompanying a primordial hum.
"Xinxin, we haven't eaten all day."
"Okay, then let's have dinner first."
"First?"
"We'll eat dinner... then continue."
"You little temptress!"
Night came quietly and then swiftly passed. The moon hid as the sun rose, and the sun sank as the moon shone bright, in an endless cycle.
In the blink of an eye, it had moved from June 8th to June 10th.
The morning light at dawn cast patterns on the curtains, the square patches of light hit Lin Chuan's eyes, signaling the arrival of another day.
Lin Chuan merely stirred.
The Little Landlady instinctively turned over, tightly hugging Lin Chuan, lazily and affectionately leaning against his chest, her face flushed and alluring.
"Xinxin, it's time to get up and see the world outside."
Lin Chuan embraced the Little Landlady, kissed her forehead, and said with a smile.
For the past two days, Lin Chuan had been reconnecting with the Little Landlady, paying little attention to the outside world.
"Carry me out of bed." powered-by-MvLeMpYr
The Little Landlady pursed her lips slightly, revealing a contented smile on her blushing cheeks.
"Okay!"
Lin Chuan smiled slightly, picked up the Little Landlady in his arms. After two days and nights of intense action, he was a bit sore and weak, but lifting the Little Landlady was not a problem at all.
Get up, get dressed, have breakfast.
Lin Chuan sat at the dining table, opened his mobile phone, and looked at the world.
Multiple news reports stated that the gangs active in the Old Street Factory District had been entirely uprooted.
The Old Street Factory District was now denounced by the whole network, with loud calls for anti-fraud action, and various parties issued statements, promising a joint 'operation' targeting the factory district, with the Old Street Factory District as the primary focus.
The Anti-Fraud Center app had soared in popularity, with an astonishing number of downloads, and had just opened nationwide.
He also saw a picture.
——Old Bao sitting in the driver's seat inside a car, a photo of him riddled with bullets.
At this moment.
Lin Chuan's lips curled up, revealing a slight smile.
Everything progressed as anticipated, and the Old Street Factory District would soon cease to exist.
'Ding dong ding dong.'
Nine o'clock sharp.
It was Youyou sending a message: "Darling, good morning!"
"Youyou, good morning. Is there some good news you want to tell me?" Lin Chuan smiled and replied.
"How did you know that?"
On the other side of the network, Youyou revealed a bright smile.
"Just a guess." Lin Chuan said with a smile.
Right then, Youyou sent a message: "Congratulations on achieving the 20,000 Average Subscription achievement!"
Reached the 20,000 subscription achievement?
Lin Chuan's face froze for a moment, and he immediately opened the author's assistant background to check the Average Subscription score of "All-In".
——Average Subscription 20,967.
Well, he had inadvertently broken through the 20,000 mark!
"An unexpected pleasure."
Lin Chuan grinned broadly and said with a smile.
Indeed, his original intention was to merely expose the Old Street Factory District, sparking social discussion and achieving the goal of eradicating it. However, he did not expect that this surge of traffic would also benefit his work.
On May 26th, "All-In" had just achieved the 10,000 subscription milestone.
Now, the 20,000 Average Subscription figure had far exceeded Lin Chuan's expectations.
"And there's another piece of good news!"
Youyou sent another message.
Lin Chuan raised an eyebrow: "Did the results of the Anti-Fraud literary contest come out?"
June 10th was the day the final results of the Anti-Fraud literary contest were to be announced.
"Yes, guess what prize you won?" Youyou replied.
"Which prize?"
Lin Chuan's eyebrows lifted.
In Modu's Sailing Novel office, Youyou looked very happy and immediately sent Lin Chuan a number: "1."
First prize!
Lin Chuan clenched his fist, his face radiating an exhilarated smile, and a "Nice" spontaneously escaped his lips.
"What's nice?"
Just then, the Little Landlady brought over a glass of breakfast milk and handed it to Lin Chuan.
Lin Chuan, sitting on the chair, wrapped the Little Landlady in his arms and said with a smile, "My 'All-In' has reached 20,000 Average Subscriptions and won first prize in the Anti-Fraud literary contest."
"Doesn't that mean it's going to be adapted into a film or TV series?"
The Little Landlady's eyes lit up.
The first prize of the Anti-Fraud literary contest was unique and belonged to the front line of film and TV adaptations.
Lin Chuan nodded, "It should be."
Film and TV adaptations were the obsession of web novel writers, not just a simple matter of achieving success, but more importantly, about gaining public recognition and breaking out of the niche. A novel getting adapted for the screen meant that the author's stories were breaking out of the web novel circle and entering the public eye.
That was another growth track for web novel writers—IP derivatives from their novels.
Web novel IP derivatives include, but are not limited to, digital collectibles, audiobooks, publishing, music, fan creations, game rights, animation adaptations, and film and TV adaptations.
Ordinary web novel writers find it hard to come into contact with 'novel IP derivatives.'
Within the Sailing Novel Website, after reaching the major refined product level, writers would gradually get in touch with 'novel IP derivatives,' but even most major works and ordinary 10,000-subscriber milestones generate limited 'novel IP derivatives.'
This is one of the reasons why many 10,000-subscriber, Heavenly King, and Influent Author writers were gunning for the Anti-Fraud literary contest prizes.
The success of adaptations into animation or film could take a work to a new level, breaking out of the web novel circle to the mainstream society and achieving widespread market recognition.
For instance, the film adaptation of "Joy of Life" was a great hit, and "Joy of Life 2" is highly anticipated and currently hotly discussed.
"All-In" winning a film and TV adaptation marked a significant societal acknowledgement for Lin Chuan!
In the web novel circle, he could now stand tall.
In mainstream society, he could openly admit to being a "web novel writer," an identity that often elicited sneers.
Even compared to the "iron rice bowl" job of a civil servant, which his mother prized, Lin Chuan wouldn't trade for anything.
Good benefits?
——I've had a film adaptation.
Steady job, high social status?
——I've had a film adaptation.
Easy to find a partner?
——I've had a film adaptation.
Hold on, are you asking about this? Well, I have a girlfriend now, hehe.
"Chairman, two pieces of good news have come in one after another, so shouldn't we celebrate?" The Little Landlady handed Lin Chuan his breakfast milk.
"How should we celebrate?"
"What do you think?"
The Little Landlady, experiencing the taste of something new, immediately wrapped her arms around Lin Chuan's neck, blinked her eyes, and revealed a bright and mischievous smile that was endearing.
Lin Chuan's lips twitched: "Xinxin, you're almost immobile, I'm afraid of hurting you. Take some time to rest first."
A hint of shyness appeared on the Little Landlady's face, and she smiled: "I'll listen to you."
Lin Chuan took a large gulp of breakfast milk to replenish his nutrients.
Then, he continued to look at his phone.
On the phone, Youyou sent him another message, teasingly: "Lin Chuan, I've noticed you've got the luck of the 'Son of Destiny.'
"How so?" Lin Chuan replied with a smile.
"I heard some rumors, originally the first-place award wasn't secured for you," Youyou answered.
"Ah?"
Lin Chuan frowned, quite surprised.
Youyou then explained:
"Initially, the Anti-Fraud Writing Contest's jury thought your 'All-In' was too cruel, bloody, and bordered on crossing the line, not suitable for film adaptation; they initially chose a work by a traditional literary circle author."
"But in the past few days, the Old Street Factory District incident has caused a stir across the internet. After seeing it, the jury realized 'All-In' was closer to reality, so they re-evaluated and finally chose you as the winner."
"If that's not being the 'Son of Destiny,' then what is?"
Lin Chuan was startled, thought for a moment, and replied: "It might also be hard work, hahaha."
This isn't about being lucky; I worked through the night storming the brain!
Youyou thought Lin Chuan was joking, so she replied: "Of course, your hard work is also very important. Oh, I just received a notification. The Anti-Fraud Center and Sunshine Film and Television have set up a team. Their representative should contact you soon to discuss the film adaptation of 'All-In.'
"Already?"
Lin Chuan was somewhat surprised by the speed of this development.
Youyou answered: "I'll show you a few pictures, then you'll understand why it's so quick."
Soon, several screenshots appeared on Lin Chuan's phone.
These were the comment sections for the announcement of the Anti-Fraud Writing Contest winners.
The comment section was buzzing.
[This first place winner, I want to see its film adaptation in a month!]
[A month? How could it be filmed so quickly? If not, film it to death!]
[You have at most a week!]
[Online nudging! Film quickly!]
[Strongly suggest, please have this author act as Mr. Lin!]
[Quickly make it, let everyone see the importance of anti-fraud!]
Lin Chuan laughed, his face showing a satisfied smile. After pondering for a moment, he sent Youyou a message: "I plan to take this opportunity to release a new book."
"So soon?"
This time, it was Youyou's turn to be surprised.
Inside Sailing Tower, Youyou, looking at Lin Chuan's message, widened her eyes and replied, "Lin Chuan, isn't that a bit too intense?"
"Didn't you say a great era of rivalry is coming? I figure 'strike first to gain the upper hand.' While my popularity is still good, I should hurry and release a new book," Lin Chuan explained with a smile.
In the second half of the year, multiple authors with ten-thousand-strong subscriptions, Heavenly Kings, Influent Authors, and Platinum Authors will release new books.
Sailing Novel Website is about to witness an era of 'Clash of Titans.'
And for Lin Chuan's next new book "Last Week's Antique," he would need to reach twenty thousand Popularity Value (Average Subscription) for the entire book to unlock the next career life experience.
Twenty thousand Average Subscription is already among the top works within Sailing Novel Website.
Even though Lin Chuan's "All-In" reached twenty thousand Average Subscription, he wasn't sure "Last Week's Antique" could achieve such high results.
So, the fledgling must soar early.
"Right, the era of big rivalry, do you have any drafts saved for your new book?" Youyou suddenly remembered and cooled down from her excitement about Lin Chuan's Anti-Fraud award and film adaptation.
"A bit," Lin Chuan laughed.
In the draft box, the system already helped me finish the book.
1.06 million words.
"It seems you've got very mature ideas and have put them into action," Youyou said, feeling reassured upon seeing Lin Chuan's "a bit."
She had the feeling of a 'teacher leading an outstanding student.'
Lin Chuan's new book didn't require her to worry at all and could still achieve excellent results, the explosive kind.
"Haha, indeed a bit mature," Lin Chuan replied.
"Is it a crime autobiography?" Youyou asked directly.
Lin Chuan's lips twitched: "Youyou, you know me; I write books seriously and never commit crimes."
Youyou, holding her phone, had a beaming smile on her face: "That's why I know your book will definitely be a crime autobiography, haha, quick, tell me what the theme is?"
"Antique forgery genre," Lin Chuan said with a dry laugh, maneuvering his fingers to reply.
"Antiques? You tend to pick more niche themes," Youyou furrowed her brows.
"Niche themes mean no competition," Lin Chuan replied with a smile.
Youyou chuckled.
You're on the crime path; who can compete with you? Theft, swindlers, assassins, hackers, fraud, and now antique forgery—what author would go to these lengths?
All of a sudden!
Youyou remembered something and immediately sent Lin Chuan a message: "You just write antique-themed novels!"
"Eh, Youyou, why are you supporting me like this all of a sudden?" Lin Chuan was surprised and asked with a smile.
"At the last meeting, the editor-in-chief mentioned, although antique-themed novels are niche, they have a huge, huge, huge potential for film adaptation!" Youyou replied.
