"If you had understood that, now that would be strange," Lin Chuan said with a laugh as he sat in the vast office.
The Falcon Technology Company on the 17th floor was brightly lit, yet eerily empty save for Lin Chuan and the Little Landlady, huddled together in the office.
— Utterly private.
"How is the situation looking?" Xinxin asked with concern.
Lin Chuan held up four fingers, a faint smile on his face.
"They wanted four rocket launchers?" The Little Landlady's eyebrows rose, her charming eyes sparkling even more.
Lin Chuan shook his head, "They wanted five!"
The Little Landlady was momentarily stunned, then joyfully said, "This is a big client, then what do these four fingers mean?"
"Four billion!"
Lin Chuan chuckled.
The Little Landlady was dumbstruck, her mouth slightly agape, eyes wide, "Do arms dealers really make that much money?"
That's four small goals reached in one fell swoop; no wonder so many people risk so much to trade arms!
That sure beats making money off rent!
Lin Chuan tapped her forehead, quickly correcting the Little Landlady, "Keep in mind, we are now a toy factory and have nothing to do with military weapons."
"Oh oh, toys!"
The Little Landlady immediately grinned, "If we collect a twenty percent deposit for this order, that's 800 million; the toy factory's working capital is secured!"
"There's still some work to be done."
Lin Chuan ruffled the Little Landlady's hair, still smiling.
Quickly catching on, the Little Landlady sat down at the computer and began drafting the contract according to the preliminary cooperation details discussed today.
Lin Chuan wasn't idle either.
He needed to draw out the blueprints for the weapons ordered by the Haas Armed Forces, a project as vast as it was crucial.
Approaching midnight.
In the Falcon Technology Company, where only Lin Chuan and the Little Landlady were present, footsteps suddenly echoed out of nowhere.
"Who's there?"
Lin Chuan's reflex was to go on the alert.
"Sister Qianqian said she'd pack us some supper," the Little Landlady hurriedly explained.
"It's Shen Qianqian."
The tension faded from Lin Chuan's face, replaced by relief—he had thought it was someone from the Morgan Group taking action.
"Congratulations on your opening success!"
Shen Qianqian, dressed casually, walked into the office holding two portions of dessert soup.
"Thank you, Sister Qianqian," Xinxin got up to greet Shen Qianqian, her smile full as she took the sweet soup and placed a portion in front of Lin Chuan.
Lin Chuan, unceremoniously, greeted her and opened the lid, taking a sip of the sweet soup.
"This was supposed to involve my dad, but it's late and he might not be able to stay up; so I came instead to see if I could help with anything," Shen Qianqian said, glancing at Lin Chuan and the Little Landlady, with an air of nonchalance.
"You've come at the perfect time."
Lin Chuan waved Shen Qianqian over in a familiar manner, "For this modular rifle, just use your design, and I'll go to the restroom."
"You're really not shy about it; you'll have to pay me some royalties for this, you know."
Shen Qianqian playfully admonished him.
However, as she spoke, she honestly took Lin Chuan's seat at the computer and began drafting the blueprint.
"We know each other well; if the steel factory kicks off, your dad might just become my sworn brother, and then you'll be my niece!"
Lin Chuan laughed heartily.
"Niece..." Shen Qianqian's mouth twitched, this guy, how did he suddenly start taking advantage of their generational relationship?
But when old Shen had too much to drink, it really could happen.
"Sister Qianqian, by that time Lin Chuan will be your uncle; we'll keep to ourselves, you'll call me Aunty, and I'll still call you Sister Qianqian."
Beside them, the Little Landlady joked as well.
"Fine, Xinxin, you're teasing me too," Shen Qianqian huffed.
"Meh."
The Little Landlady stuck out her tongue and made a face.
For a moment, the 17th floor of Falcon Technology Co., Ltd. pulsed with added life and merriment.
With Shen Qianqian joining in, the work efficiency indeed improved significantly.
Even safety had more assurance!
At least, Lin Chuan didn't have to worry anymore about encountering danger, without the police being able to arrive in time.
One week later.
Southeast Asia, Asia-Pacific Branch of the Morgan Group.
In the spacious office, a huge wooden desk sat in the center, with Yu Qin and Lucas seated opposite each other.
The dim light, filtering in through the half-closed curtains, illuminated the room.
Tonight, Yu Qin wasn't holding her tablet and reading novels as usual.
She hadn't touched "Arms Tycoon" for several days, not because she didn't like it. On the contrary, the more she read, the more she liked it.
But!
There was another matter that had entangled her and left her with no way to be distracted.
—It was about Keke.
Her younger sister.
Inside the office, seated opposite her, Lucas, the head of Morgan Group's Asia-Pacific Branch, had a dark and somber expression. His hands were crossed on the table, and he lightly tapped the wood with the tips of his fingers, making a sound that was almost imperceptible.
"Ah..."
He sighed deeply, "I never imagined it would come to this."
Lucas spoke with a heavy tone, also filled with puzzlement, his voice spreading through the gloom and unsettling the mind.
Yu Qin was clad in black, appearing even colder and more mysterious.
She was silent for a very long time, her eyebrows deeply furrowed, and after a long pause, she finally spoke, "The 'Remote Box-type Rocket Launcher' of Sania Weapons Research Company passed all technical verification from headquarters, ensuring its accuracy and authenticity. So why was Keke's appeal for clemency rejected?"
The previous week.
She had started making efforts on many fronts, using Morgan Group's channels to pass the technology to her sister Keke, allowing Keke to utilize this groundbreaking technology of the Remote Box-type Rocket Launcher for a plea for clemency.
That means the immediate execution of the death sentence is commuted to a suspended death sentence.
The clemency period is generally two years, during which, if the criminal does not intentionally commit an offense again, then after the period, their sentence can be reduced to life imprisonment or a fixed-term imprisonment.
Along with the "significant merit" that Yu Qin facilitated, Keke's sentence would be further reduced, with her release appearing imminent.
This was a familiar tactic used by Yu Qin and the Morgan Group upper echelons.
In their own words, it was buying life with money or with patent technology, proven many times over in other regions.
But this time,
there was an unexpected complication!
The patent Keke filed for the Remote Box-type Rocket Launcher was rejected!
Lucas was very reluctant to accept this outcome, "Yu, I've already sent people to find out why the patent was rejected, but no information has leaked out. It must be touching upon military secrets!"
They were tycoons of a dark industry.
But when it came to military secrets, even he could not probe further.
Some things were beyond his reach.
Yu Qin felt dejected and fell silent once again, not uttering a word.
The atmosphere in the office was so oppressive that no one dared to knock on the door and disturb the two.
"Is it possible that they've already broken through these technologies on their end?"
After pondering for a long time, Lucas speculated.
Yu Qin shook her head, "No, their research on the Remote Box-type Rocket Launcher has been stalled for a long time. Moreover, many of their technologies have been bottlenecked, with no way to continue research."
"Then, they should be even less likely to reject Keke's application," Lucas logically inferred.
Yu Qin was also perplexed, utterly baffled, "This is what I can't understand."
From the perspective of interests and technological progress, such breakthrough technology would doubtlessly have shortened their years of research.
They had no reason to refuse!
Yu Qin's original confidence stemmed from this.
"I'm already looking for new technological achievements, hoping to save Keke. Additionally, I have ordered a search for all information related to the Remote Box-type Rocket Launcher, including videos and text. We're sifting through everything, looking for any possible clues," Lucas said.
As the head of operations, his on-the-spot decision-making was impressively swift.
Yu Qin nodded.
After approximately half an hour.
Knock, knock, knock.
A cautious knock on the door resonated.
"Come in."
Lucas called out.
A secretary-like young woman came in and handed a USB drive to Lucas, speaking with respectful deference, "General Manager, this contains some of the reports on the 'Remote Box-type Rocket Launcher.' Among them, there is also a video regarding Mr. Lin."
Lucas frowned, "What does Mr. Lin have to do with the Remote Box-type Rocket Launcher?"
"In the video, he claims to have designed a weapon, called the 'Remote Box-type Rocket Launcher,'" the young woman explained.
Inside the office.
Lucas and Yu Qin both looked surprised, exchanging glances, each seeing the puzzlement in the other's eyes.
Lin Chuan designed a 'Remote Box-type Rocket Launcher'?
Was this a coincidence?
