County Road 1768.
Two police cars blared through the dense forest, the roaring sound of their engines like the growls of wild beasts, the siren echoes in the woods, and from a distance, the flashing lights resembled speeding meteors.
Inside the police car.
Lincang Criminal Police Brigade Captain Guo Ming, around thirty-five years old, with a lean face and a few strands of white hair among the black, had a solemn expression as he listened to an officer's report.
"Currently, based on intelligence provided by Anling Cyber Police Xia Qingqing, the fraud gang comprises 13 men and 2 women, plus 12 victims, in two medium-sized trucks..."
"Anling's cyber police technology is quite impressive, to be able to dig up all this information," Captain Guo nodded, then asked, "Additionally, about the Anling Police's rush to rescue those two comrades, what's the situation?"
The car was somewhat shaky.
The officer answered, "One of them is a police officer from Anling Police Station who specializes in fraud prevention, named Shen Qianqian, who was transferred from the Criminal Police Brigade not long ago. The other is not a police officer, but rather a web novel writer named Lin Chuan."
Guo Ming's eyebrows immediately furrowed, and a hint of doubt flashed in his eyes, "You just said, the other person... Lin Chuan, is not a police officer?"
"That's right, he is a web novel writer."
"A web novel writer..." Guo's face momentarily froze, his brow furrowing even more, "Isn't that just asking for trouble?"
The officer didn't speak.
He had the same thought in his mind.
It wasn't prejudice against web novel writers, but rather that the fraud gang was well-organized and ruthless, quite different from typical criminal cases.
What could a web novel writer do at a rescue scene?
It would be dangerous for anyone to go, possibly resulting in harm, not only failing to rescue others but also getting themselves in trouble.
"It's said that one of his readers was deceived into joining the fraud gang. Worried that we might not arrive in time, he went ahead to delay them, to win time for the rescue," the officer reported truthfully.
Lincang Criminal Police Brigade Captain Guo Ming slowly exhaled, "He's a good writer, I hope he can hold off the fraud gang while ensuring his own safety."
'Ring, ring, ring——'
At that moment, Guo Ming's phone rang.
"Chief, this is Guo Ming, currently on a chase after a criminal gang, ready for instructions," Guo Ming said upon answering the call.
On the other end of the phone.
The stern voice of the chief came through, "Guo Ming, your most important task right now is to ensure Lin Chuan's personal safety! Lin Chuan is the web novel writer!"
Guo Ming was startled.
The most important task is to ensure Lin Chuan's personal safety?
"Understood? Act immediately, get to Lin Chuan before he encounters the fraud gang!" the Lincang Police Station chief added.
"Understood!"
Guo Ming responded immediately, turned to instruct the driver to speed up.
The two police cars on the winding County Road 1768 suddenly accelerated, with their sirens echoing through the mountains.
"Chief, about the writer's identity..." Guo Ming, puzzled, couldn't help but ask.
"Don't ask what you shouldn't," the chief responded, "Just make sure to keep him safe and bring him back to Lincang in one piece!"
Guo Ming's face turned stern, "Received!"
Not only the Criminal Police Brigade, but the armed police squad following closely behind also received the order:
To rescue Lin Chuan and escort him.
Furthermore, they were specifically instructed to shoot to kill if the fraud gang made any move that could endanger Lin Chuan's life!
At this time.
Lincang Criminal Police Brigade Captain Guo Ming's brow was deeply furrowed.
The task assigned by the chief was undeniably difficult, due to the low predictability of the situation.
If the chief had ordered him to catch the fraud gang at any cost, he would dare to pledge his word, to capture them all without exception.
But to ensure Lin Chuan's safety... with Lin Chuan already ahead to rescue his reader, he might already have encountered the fraud gang.
Once encountered, it would all be uncertain.
Guo Ming could only place his hopes on Shen Qianqian.
He hoped... Shen Qianqian would be able to keep Lin Chuan safe!
Police from the Lincang Criminal Police Brigade sped past Stone Cliff Bay, through the Ten Mile Corridor, and onto a winding rural road that was seldom traveled.
The rural road twisted and turned, but the speed of the Criminal Police Brigade did not decrease as they rushed forward at top speed.
Lush trees sped by outside the police car windows.
The siren echoed through the forest.
Apart from the sirens, the occasional plaintive cries of birds made Guo Ming's heart wrench, revealing a certain urgency on his face.
The police car took a sharp turn, and then came to an immediate halt!
"Captain Guo, they're ahead!"
The officer driving the car reported immediately.
In Guo Ming's hand was a clenched service pistol, his expression grave and vigilant as he prepared to rush out of the car and immediately rescue Lin Chuan.
But!
The scene through the car window confused him.
Ahead, a dozen people crouched at the side of the road with their heads in their hands. Nearby lay a pile of iron rods and knives, while in front of them stood a man and a woman.
The man wore a white T-shirt and casual pants, with short hair and a handsome face.
The woman was in a light-colored dress, tall and sweet-looking.
This man and woman... resembled the photos sent by Anling City Cyber Police Xia Qingqing perfectly.
Lin Chuan, Shen Qianqian!?
Guo Ming was stunned, "What's going on???"
The officers in the car were all bewildered, exchanging glances. What was happening?
The officer in charge of the patrol video was also bewildered.
Looking at the situation... it seemed like the problem had already been solved?
For a moment.
Lincang Criminal Police Brigade Captain Guo Ming's emotions shifted from heart-wrenching and anxious to surprised, puzzled, and perplexed.
On the way there, he imagined multiple scenarios.
Perhaps Lin Chuan would flee in panic, with Shen Qianqian trying her best to stop him.
Or perhaps both would escape, running into the woods.
He even envisioned the possibility that Lin Chuan had been captured by the fraud gang, and pondered how to rescue the hostage from them.
But he had never imagined the scene before his eyes.
A female anti-fraud police officer + a web novel writer, had subdued 15 fraudsters!
It was insanity!
With a look of astonishment on his face, Guo Ming took a deep breath and quickly stepped out of the car to meet with Lin Chuan and Shen Qianqian:
"Comrade Lin Chuan, Comrade Shen Qianqian, I am Guo Ming, the captain of the Lincang Police Station's Criminal Police Brigade, ordered to arrest the 15-member fraud gang and ensure both of your safety."
Lin Chuan nodded and smiled, "Hello Captain Guo, we're safe."
Shen Qianqian, on the other hand, pointed at the fraudsters in front of her: "These 15 are the fraud gang you're trying to arrest, not one less."
"Cuff them all!" Guo Ming ordered.
The officers from the Lincang Criminal Police Brigade immediately took action and handcuffed all of them.
Guo Ming looked at Lin Chuan and then at Shen Qianqian, and asked with great curiosity while pointing at the 15 fraudsters: "Did the two of you subdue these people?"
He simply couldn't understand how two people had managed to subdue 15 hardened fraudsters.
Moreover, there was not the slightest sign of struggle at the scene.
The 15 fraudsters showed no sign of resistance.
Lin Chuan and Shen Qianqian were unharmed.
Shen Qianqian smiled: "I didn't do anything, Lin Chuan took care of it all by himself."
Guo Ming was taken aback and looked at Lin Chuan, his eyes filled with questions.
Lin Chuan raised his right hand, a black pistol hanging from his index finger, twirling it gently twice: "I relied on this."
What?
Guo Ming was taken aback again, instantly recognizing the toy gun in Lin Chuan's hand, hence his face filled with even more confusion: "With this toy gun, you subdued 15 fraudsters?"
The 15 recently handcuffed individuals all turned their gazes towards Lin Chuan, furrowing their brows and wearing expressions of confusion that were eerily uniform.
Huh?
Toy gun?
Lin Chuan gave a slight smile, aimed the gun at Sister Mei, who was the leader among the fraudsters, and said with a smile, "Maybe this toy gun seemed a bit too real in their eyes."
Then, he gently pulled the trigger, and a gunshot sound came from the gun.
Click.
That was the sound of a toy gun.
Sister Mei's eyes widened, staring at Lin Chuan in shock before cursing involuntarily, "Damn it, I've been played by him!"
A professional fraud gang had been duped by Lin Chuan with a toy gun.
They actually cooperated quite obediently by dropping to the ground with their heads in their hands.
You could say, Lin Chuan subdued them effortlessly!
Wei, standing next to Sister Mei, realized he had been thoroughly duped by Lin Chuan and roared fiercely, "Damn it, how dare he deceive me, believe it or not..."
Suddenly, his voice abruptly stopped.
Because Guo Ming, dressed in his police uniform, had a real gun pressed against his temple.
Wei immediately became compliant.
This was definitely a real gun.
"Take them away," Guo Ming immediately ordered, then turned to Lin Chuan and said, "Comrade Lin Chuan, I'm glad you're alright, I'll report back to the chief of the police station now."
"You're busy, Captain Guo," Lin Chuan replied with a smile.
Afterward.
Guo Ming walked to the side and dialed the phone number of the chief of the Lincang Police Station.
On the phone.
The chief's voice was very anxious, and the first thing he said upon answering the call was, "How is it? Is the writer okay?"
Guo Ming glanced at Lin Chuan and answered, "Chief, Lin Chuan is fine."
"That's a relief,"
The chief seemed to breathe a sigh of relief and asked, "He isn't injured, is he?"
"No, Lin Chuan is unscathed," Guo Ming shook his head and added, "He also arrested 15 fraudsters."
Phew—
The chief felt as if a weight had been lifted from his chest, and a rare smile appeared on his face:
"Great job, Guo Ming. You've eliminated the entire fraud gang and rescued Lin Chuan. This is a commendable achievement for your Criminal Police Brigade, and I'll be sure to reward you all generously when you return!"
Guo Ming's expression became unnatural, his mouth twitching slightly: "Chief, we didn't subdue the fraud gang, and Lin Chuan didn't need our rescue."
"What do you mean?"
On the other end of the phone, the chief suddenly became perplexed.
Guo Ming glanced at Lin Chuan and then explained to the chief: "Chief, when we arrived at the scene, we saw the 15 fraudsters squatting on the ground with their hands over their heads, while Comrade Lin Chuan and Comrade Shen Qianqian were standing, looking at the fraud gang."
"Hmm?"
The chief hummed in surprise, "Are you saying that Comrade Lin Chuan and another anti-fraud police officer subdued all the criminals?"
Guo Ming's lips twitched again: "According to the anti-fraud police officer Shen Qianqian, Comrade Lin Chuan subdued the fraudsters by himself."
On the other side, the chief was stunned: "???"
"Chief?"
"The Armed Police Force squad will probably arrive soon. You guys go ahead and escort Comrade Lin Chuan back first, then we can learn about the situation in detail later," the chief of the Lincang Police Station said after a moment of thought.
The whole process was truly baffling.
He was very curious.
Not only the chief of the Lincang Police Station was curious, but all the criminal police officers present had the same question in their minds.
—How did Lin Chuan single-handedly subdue an entire fraud gang?
