In the office.
Youyou spoke with conviction, “But the reason for the book’s poor performance isn’t its quality, but rather its subject matter. As long as it can go overseas, I guarantee it will perform well.”
The office fell into a brief silence.
“Hacker Kingdom...”
The editor-in-chief looked down at the ‘Overseas Publication Application Form’ in his hand and sighed softly, “Youyou, you’re being too na?ve.”
“Please reconsider, Editor!” Youyou implored earnestly.
The editor-in-chief raised his hand and said, “In a bit I’ll call together some operations staff and chief editors for a small meeting, and we’ll seriously evaluate the ‘Hacker Kingdom’ you recommended.”
“Really?”
A bright light appeared in Youyou’s eyes.
The editor-in-chief nodded, “Mm, you can go back to work now.”
“Thank you, Editor!”
Youyou pursed her lips, suppressing the smile at the corners of her mouth.
As long as ‘Hacker Kingdom’ enters the evaluation, there is hope.
My Lin Chuan... cough, I misspoke, Mr. Lin under my charge, you’d better perform well for me.
My year-end bonus is riding on this, wuwuwu~
About two hours later.
Approaching the end of the workday.
Mingyue, dressed in a sharp blue suit, walked towards Youyou’s office space in her high heels.
Youyou swallowed hard and quickly straightened her back, raising her head to ask, “Mingyue Sister, how did it go?”
The editor-in-chief had mentioned a small meeting, which Chief Editor Mingyue had attended.
“There was a fierce debate at the meeting,” Mingyue said with a slight smile.
“Ah?”
Youyou’s expression stiffened, and her delicate eyebrows furrowed slightly.
Mingyue continued with a smile, “At the meeting, the other chief editors did not agree with ‘Hacker Kingdom’ going overseas, because its performance was just too dismal and did not meet the criteria.”
Youyou’s upright posture slumped visibly, as she deflated and her mouth puckered, “So, that means no chance.”
“Not necessarily.”
Mingyue pinched Youyou’s cheek and smiled, “The chief editors might disagree, but the operations team agrees. They’re very optimistic about this novel.”
“Hmm?”
Youyou’s eyes lit up, “If operations agrees, that’s great.”
Operations, responsible for marketing the works, are behind Sailing Novel’s recommendations, promotions, channels, and traffic attraction.
At some less transparent sites, it’s common for the operations team to manually select certain works for a mass promotion, creating momentum.
This goes to show how powerful operations can be.
In Sailing Novel’s overseas plan, operations has done specific market analysis for the international market and holds more sway than editors.
“Right, several operations staff praised your Lin Chuan highly, listing him among the pioneering works,” Mingyue said with a laugh.
“Mingyue Sister, what do you mean ‘your Lin Chuan’? He is an author under my charge,” Youyou said with a beaming smile, “What are pioneering works?”
“For novels going overseas, translation takes a long time, but as you know, other novel websites are also working on going international. So, Sailing plans to allow a small batch of works to go overseas first, to seize the market,” Mingyue explained.
Youyou had an epiphany, “I see.”
“So, go ahead and give your talented author the good news.”
Mingyue winked.
“Thank you, Mingyue Sister.”
Youyou hummed a little tune joyfully, picked up her phone, and habitually typed two characters into Lin Chuan’s chat box:
“Treasure~”
“Youyou, what’s up?” Lin Chuan replied quickly to the message.
“Good news!”
“You got promoted to chief editor?”
“Not that, but if you put in a bit more effort, I might have a chance to be promoted to chief editor.”
“So what’s the good news?”
“‘Hacker Kingdom’ is going international!”
In the rental.
Lin Chuan’s pupils dilated as he stared at the words ‘going international.’
That his work with an average subscription of 318 could go international was something Lin Chuan had never imagined.
As expected, this result had come from Youyou’s considerable effort.
System, do overseas subscriptions count towards Popularity Value?
Swiftly, the ‘Career Life Experience System’ responded—
‘Yes.’
After pondering for a long while, Lin Chuan felt warmth in his heart and solemnly replied to Youyou, “Youyou, thank you.”
“It’s nothing.”
Youyou replied nonchalantly, “Just write a few more novels with over ten thousand subscriptions to repay me, and I’ll be satisfied.”
“Of course.”
The corners of Lin Chuan’s mouth lifted slightly as his fingers tapped rapidly.
Youyou replied again, “So, you won’t leave me, right?”
Lin Chuan’s eyes narrowed, his face full of question marks.
Youyou, what do you mean by that... We signed a contract, not a life indebtedness agreement!
After sending her previous message, Youyou hurriedly explained, “Uh, I mean, you won’t switch to someone else after you achieve success, right? /pout.jpg”
Lin Chuan exhaled a sigh of relief, laughing, “Youyou, I thought you had inappropriate thoughts about me for a moment there.”
At the other end of the internet, Youyou pouted slightly, “What, am I that bad?”
“Not bad at all.”
“Not bad... Just not bad?”
“Er, Youyou, you’re the best editor!” Lin Chuan spoke his genuine thoughts.
Indeed.
As an editor, Youyou was already very good.
At least, Lin Chuan had never encountered a better editor than Youyou.
“That’s more like it.”
Youyou’s lips curled up in a satisfied smile, her delicate face beaming.
Inside the Sailing Novel office building.
Li Xue, also an editor, walked past Youyou. Seeing Youyou smiling at her phone for no apparent reason, she couldn’t help but tease, “Youyou, are you in love?”
“Xue, what nonsense are you talking about?”
Youyou retorted with mock annoyance, while simultaneously pressing the power button to turn her phone’s screen black.
Li Xue blinked with a smile, “Youyou, your smile is harder to suppress than an AK, and you say you’re not in love? Come on, which rich young master is it?”
“Xue, you’re asking for a beating!”
Youyou raised her clenched little fist before Li Xue’s face.
In the blink of an eye, 10 days had passed.
April 13th, evening.
In the Happiness Community, the mottled walls were hidden in the night, the lights dim yellow, intertwining with the illumination from the residents’ windows.
A mother cat curled up next to a small supermarket, emitting a cry like that of a baby.
Inside the small supermarket.
The Little Landlady was oblivious to the mother cat’s spring calling outside the door.
She focused on holding a pen, scribbling on a notebook, occasionally pressing a calculator to verify the figures.
She looked like a small business owner in charge of accounts.
During these ten days.
‘Hacker Kingdom’ had already been officially released overseas, just waiting for the performance feedback.
Additionally.
Due to the increasing frequency and scale of malicious attacks from foreign hackers, ranging from government institutions and tech companies to internet cafes and bars, all suffered varying degrees of attacks.
As a result, Lin Chuan’s Studio 720 acquired five new clients.
These five were all large internet cafe customers, introduced by the Little Landlady’s second uncle, Zhang Ren.
Therefore, the Little Landlady had managed to break away from the allure of short videos, busying herself with calculations, turning into a little finance fanatic.
As for Lin Chuan.
He was in Studio 720 next to the small supermarket, having just finished coding, stood up, and stretched his back.
Suddenly!
The computer screen in front of Lin Chuan began to flicker continuously, turning into a blue screen, with six Chinese characters displayed in the middle.
