Anyone who has written online fiction knows.
One’s own novel, especially doesn’t want friends in real life to see it, if those friends in reality would discuss me, that would be a social suicide scene!
If the relatives found out, then you can just declare there’s no need to go back to the village for the New Year!
Aunts and other busybodies can chat about anything from the top of your head to the end of the village.
"Here’s your coffee." The waiter brought over two cups of coffee and placed them slowly in front of the two.
Lin Chuan picked up the coffee and took a small sip, "Xinxin, you’ve been so secretive, even I, your intimate partner, didn’t know."
"I’m a little embarrassed," said the Little Landlady with a grin.
"Which site did you publish on, Sailing Novel?" Lin Chuan, as a predecessor who had ’written’ many novels with over a million words and had some success, asked considerately.
The Little Landlady immediately shook her head.
"Then Fanfan, or maybe Catcat?" Lin Chuan guessed. These two were leading the free sites, and if the Little Landlady wrote in the women’s frequency, there was still a market for it.
The Little Landlady shook her head again, "Those sites are too big, I didn’t dare to submit there, I submitted to a smaller site."
"Small sites are pretty dark," Lin Chuan knew some insider information and reminded her.
"That site, it’s called Mars Novels, have you heard of it?" The Little Landlady asked tentatively.
Lin Chuan thought for a moment, "Never heard of it, do you have any achievements now? Just don’t get cheated."
Getting cheated out of money is one thing, but it doesn’t feel good!
"Achievements... I’m not too sure, but the editor asked to meet with me, they want to talk about publishing," the Little Landlady suddenly said.
"Eh?"
Lin Chuan, who had just picked up the coffee, almost sprayed it out.
Publishing?
I don’t even have a hardcopy book published yet, and you’re going to be published?
"So, I dragged you here with me, if I get scammed, you’ll help me sort it out, okay?" The Little Landlady hugged Lin Chuan’s arm, her eyes shining like autumnal waters, gazing at him with ripples.
Lin Chuan slowly put down his coffee and smiled, "If they dare to cheat my Little Landlady, I’d turn their website upside down."
"With that said, I’m relieved."
The Little Landlady giggled.
Lin Chuan habitually ruffled the Little Landlady’s hair. He wasn’t bluffing; Xinxin was his darling, and he couldn’t stand to see Xinxin get cheated even once.
"By the way, that Mars Novels, they seem to also publish within Southeast Asia," the Little Landlady added.
"That powerful?"
Lin Chuan was surprised.
The two chatted about the website Mars Novels in the cafe.
Outside the cafe, on the road, a taxi sped through the streets, weaving between the towering buildings, heading towards the Redwood Cafe.
In the taxi, there were two people.
In the backseat, opposite the driver, there was a man with a pointy face and monkey cheeks, skinny, wrapped in a thick coat, looking a bit frail and not quite used to the weather in Anling City.
Next to him was a man with a slicked-back hairdo.
He obviously had more presence about him. Unlike Hou whose face was all bones, he had a ruddy complexion and a content look, with a hint of a smile at the corner of his mouth, appearing to be in high spirits.
"The views here are really nice!"
Brother Hao stroked the tuft of beard on his chin and admired the scenery outside. After the rain in Anling City, the sky was still somewhat overcast. The bustling streets and verdant plants in the greenbelts were lush, and the streets clean and tidy. The air was filled with the scent of soil and herbs; although it carried a bit of a chill, it was still refreshing.
"It really is a nice place to live, just a bit cold," Hou said as he wrapped his coat tighter, still getting used to the climate.
"When will we get to the Redwood Cafe? I can hardly wait to see my cash cow!" Brother Hao was a bit impatient, coupled with anticipation.
Hou checked the GPS on his phone, "Two more traffic lights, and we’ll be there."
"Good."
Brother Hao nodded in satisfaction, "Zhang’s book is indeed good. ’I Am Not the Medicine God’ seems to have the potential to sweep through Southeast Asia."
"Truly, I didn’t expect a new writer to have such power, it’s beyond my imagination, even, even..." Hou couldn’t find the words.
"Even what?" Brother Hao asked.
Hou thought for a moment, "Even stronger than the ’Arms Tycoon’ was back then!"
Brother Hao’s lips twitched, "Arms Tycoon... better to mention the author of that book less, cough."
Hou, looking completely unconvinced by superstitions, advised, "Don’t worry, Brother Hao. That author’s soaring at Sailing Novel right now, he definitely won’t submit to our Mars Novels. Plus, Mr. Lin’s ’Lin’ means wood, and our Mars is fire—we overcome him!"
"Ah, that’s the logic!"
Brother Hao echoed in agreement, then after a long pause, he added, "The author of ’I Am Not the Medicine God’ is named Zhang..."
Hou immediately explained, "After Mr. Lin became famous online, a lot of people followed suit and chose similar pen names—Li, Wang, Liu, Lu, a whole bunch of them. Zhang is also one of those followers."
"That’s good."
Brother Hao nodded, slightly relieved, "As long as it’s unrelated to that Mr. Lin."
"That Mr. Lin is currently being sued by a weapons company; he’s got his own problems to worry about," Hou chuckled mischievously.
Brother Hao smiled, "Nice!"
Back then, for pirating several of Lin Chuan’s novels, he had first been ’visited’ by Leo from the Haas Armed Forces, which scared him into promptly removing the pirated content, reimbursing the pirating revenue, and even paying a high price for the license.
Not long after, Lucas and Yu Qin from the Morgan Group also ’paid a visit’.
With a weapon pressed against his forehead, he almost lost his life.
An absolute nemesis indeed!
That’s why Brother Hao feared any entanglements with Lin Chuan!
But her next message piqued Lin Chuan’s interest, "Besides their involvement in the industry of addictive drugs, I’ve discovered in Lucas’s web logs that he
once contacted a domestic IP, but to avoid alerting them, I didn’t track this IP."
Hmm?
Lin Chuan frowned, "A domestic IP?"
"That’s right!" Xia Qingqing replied, "Though this IP was disguised, I can confirm that it’s indeed domestic."
He had used this computer to visit
He had once used this computer to contact a strange person, which I couldn’t restore on my side."
"Who?" Lin Chuan inquired.
"Scorpion, that must be a code name," Xia Qingqing responded truthfully.
Lin Chuan’s brow immediately wrinkled more deeply, and he quickly tapped the virtual keyboard on his phone, "Send me the web log. I’ll take a look."
Fresh from the virtual world, he was very sensitive to code names.
Scorpion, that sounded too much like an agent!
"Okay!"
Xia Qingqing immediately sent the log to Lin Chuan.
Lin Chuan received the log, shouted toward the kitchen where the Little Landlady was, "I’ll eat later."
After that, he turned and entered his study.
Scorpion, Xia Qingqing might not know, but Lin Chuan, being a regular in the dark web, had a deep understanding of the organizations and agencies there; it was an information organization.
This information organization doesn’t deal with ordinary people.
Was Lucas entering it to sell information or to acquire it?
