Seven days later, on June 7th.
The early morning breeze swept across the winding banks of the Anling River, carrying the faint scent of grass and water vapor, until it reached the old city in the eastern part of town. It brushed through the dense foliage within the old city, playfully tousled the fur of a small cat under the eaves, and finally surged through the window, filling the modestly sized room.
At eight o'clock, Lin Chuan habitually rolled out of bed and then opened the metal door.
The Little Landlady was right outside.
This was the biological clock that the Little Landlady had cultivated for Lin Chuan over the past week.
Today, her cheeks were fair and tender, she wore a white T-shirt with a Pikachu cartoon print, and her lower body was clad in a pair of short, light gray pants that verged on white, revealing her straight and fair legs, which dangled in front of Lin Chuan's eyes.
It shook away all of Lin Chuan's drowsiness.
In her hands, she carried a bag of apples and today's breakfast for two—mutton soup with rice noodles.
The Little Landlady tiptoed closer to Lin Chuan and took a deep sniff, then said with a smile, "Chairman, you smell so nice."
"I think you're really hungry."
Lin Chuan replied with a smile, gently tapping on the Little Landlady's nose, then took the breakfast and apples from her hands.
"You've forgotten one thing," the Little Landlady said with a slight curl of her lips.
Lin Chuan was taken aback, "I've taken everything."
Suddenly, the Little Landlady flashed a radiant smile, then leapt up, her legs wrapping around him, her arms brazenly thrown around Lin Chuan's neck, hanging onto his body and hugging him tightly, taking a deep breath:
"And me!"
"Little Landlady, that's quite a sneak attack, too bold," Lin Chuan said, worried she might slip and fall, so he had to support her with his arms.
"Chairman, I weigh 106 pounds, is that heavy?" the Little Landlady giggled.
"Not heavy, but I'm somewhat unable to hold up," Lin Chuan replied.
"But you are holding up!" The Little Landlady blinked.
Ah?
Lin Chuan's face turned red, and he quickly turned around, placing the Little Landlady down in the living room.
She was too much for him to handle; it was indeed a bit overwhelming.
Watching Lin Chuan's awkward expression, Zhang Xinxin's eyes shimmered with sly amusement. Indeed, with a full-frontal assault, his psychological defenses simply couldn't hold.
The Chairman is mine!
A woman chasing a man is like separation by a layer of yarn.
Especially for someone like Lin Chuan, a web novelist, facing an attack that was as fierce as thunder and as gentle and graceful as the Little Landlady's, it was indeed difficult to resist.
Phew—
"Chairman, what's the matter?" the Little Landlady asked, batting her eyes and smiling.
"Don't play dumb."
Lin Chuan spat out playfully, "I have serious matters to attend to today."
"Then I'll let you off for now, let's have breakfast first."
The Little Landlady said with a smile, then sat down at the table and had breakfast with Lin Chuan.
'Ding dong ding dong—'
At that moment, the phone rang.
Lin Chuan glanced at it, a message from Editor Youyou.
"Darling~ time to wake up!"
In recent days,
Lin Chuan's anti-fraud novel "All-In" had charged into the next round at the top.
So, he had been in closer contact with Youyou during this period.
"I'm having breakfast." Lin Chuan replied, then glanced at the Little Landlady across from him, who smiled warmly and piled two more slices of lamb onto his plate.
She didn't ask who Lin Chuan was chatting with.
"You've been keeping quite regular hours lately, nice, nice." Youyou seemed very satisfied.
Lin Chuan smiled and replied, "All-In has entered the next round. Now, just waiting for the final results to come out."
"Whether looking at the popularity or the content, 'All-In' is a strong contender for first prize. Aim to keep the second-place spot at least, and fight for the first!" Youyou messaged.
It was clear that she was quite optimistic about Lin Chuan winning the top prize in the anti-fraud essay contest.
"Then I'll leave this year's Heavenly King honor up to Youyou." Lin Chuan joked.
Youyou had previously hinted that if "All-In" could achieve excellent results in the anti-fraud essay contest, Lin Chuan's historical achievements would be enough to compete with some veteran authors for a spot among the Twelve Heavenly Kings.
If he could secure the top prize and get a film and television adaptation, then there would definitely be a place for Lin Chuan among today's 'Twelve Heavenly Kings'.
Because, with the Anti-Fraud Center and Sunshine Film and Television adapting "All-In" for the screen, the popularity was bound to be high.
As the heat goes up, the novel "All-In" would rise accordingly.
"You just relax. Right now, 'All-In' is breaking out of its circle. With 'Hacker Kingdom' on top of that, you have a good chance of being named one of the Twelve Heavenly Kings this year." Youyou replied immediately.
Inside the Sailing Novel building, Youyou looked at the chat box with Lin Chuan and felt somewhat fortunate that she had bet on the right treasure.
'Swindler' and 'This Assassin Is Too Professional' have both reached the level of great masterpieces.
"Hacker Kingdom" is a hit overseas and has garnered tens of thousands of subscriptions back home.
"All-In" is currently breaking out domestically and has entered the semifinal round of the 'Anti-Fraud Essay Contest'. By June 10th, the final results will be announced, and many readers are hoping it will be adapted into a film or TV series, with high expectations for such a move.
Youyou's heart was blooming with joy.
As long as she could firmly grasp Lin Chuan, this treasure of an author, and help him ascend to the throne of Heavenly King and then further to the status of Influent Author, her promotion and salary increase were as good as in her pocket, weren't they?
Brilliant!
However, the competition pressure in the second half of the year was enormous!
Youyou immediately sent another message to Lin Chuan: "Darling~ when do you plan to start your next book?"
After a brief moment of contemplation, Lin Chuan replied, "Probably within a week after the Anti-Fraud Essay Contest ends. Why?"
"In the second half of the year, Sailing Novel will enter a state of fierce competition," Youyou responded.
Lin Chuan's eyebrows furrowed. He immediately put down his chopsticks and rapidly typed a line on his phone: "Fierce competition? What do you mean by that?"
Soon,
Youyou explained, "Let's start with the batch from the Anti-Fraud Essay Contest. For example, Tianya, Guihai, and Handon, they are very likely going to start new books this or next month. In addition, several Heavenly Kings and Influent Authors will gradually launch new books in the second half of the year, especially in the upcoming period.
And there are a few platinum-level authors who have revealed their plans to start new books."
