"Comrade Lin Chuan is our police station's best cooperative partner," the leader of the Cyber Security Detachment added from within the car.
"You flatter me!"
Lin Chuan responded modestly, "By the way, officers, I have a question I'd like to presumptuously ask."
Yu Shan raised his eyebrows slightly, "Comrade Lin Chuan, please feel free to ask."
"Then I'll speak frankly, have you obtained any clues about the 'New Type of Addictive Drugs' you are investigating?"
Yu Shan shook his head and answered truthfully, "Comrade Lin Chuan, I cannot answer your question because we are only responsible for investigating and verifying information on 'New Type of Addictive Drugs'. Specific clues and case investigations need to be referred to the narcotics team. However..."
"However what?"
Lin Chuan furrowed his brows slightly and asked.
Yu Shan considered for a moment and then added, "The clues for this type of case are far-reaching and almost always confidential."
"I see," Lin Chuan nodded.
The police car shuttled through the urban area of Anling City, heading towards the laboratory.
Along the way,
Yu Shan reestablished contact with the narcotics team leader, He Song.
After receiving the message, He Song made his return.
At the same time, Yu Shan also briefed Lin Chuan about some details of the laboratory to facilitate Lin Chuan's preparation of the 'Addictive Drug no. 3' later.
Soon,
Lin Chuan and the team arrived at the laboratory.
The narcotics team leader, He Song, was already waiting at the entrance.
"Comrade Lin Chuan, I've long admired your reputation," He Song shifted his focus to Lin Chuan as soon as he saw Yu Shan and his group.
Lin Chuan was dressed simply, appearing clean and bright.
Only, that somewhat handsome face did not display the kind of experienced weathering, which made He Song somewhat surprised.
It is well known,
that the field of chemical research, similar to doctors and programmers, often manifests in thinning hair—the less hair one has, the more trustworthy they appear.
However, Lin Chuan's complexion was rosy and radiant, with thick hair, looking every part the robust young man, not at all like someone who had been immersed in chemical research.
"Captain He," Lin Chuan greeted him as well.
"Have you been waiting long?"
At the side, Yu Shan smiled and asked.
"I just arrived a little while ago, waiting to go in with you all," He Song cracked a smile.
"So we..."
Yu Shan hadn't finished speaking when He Song pulled him aside.
He Song hesitated for a moment, then asked with a slight reluctance, "Old Yu, is it reliable to have Comrade Lin Chuan make the New Type of Addictive Drugs?"
"Hmm... it should be fine," Yu Shan nodded.
"As you know, Elder Yang only recently conducted this experiment. If we were to do it again, we'll definitely need to consult with Elder Yang again, so..." He Song furrowed his brows slightly, glancing subtly at Lin Chuan.
He had heard of Lin Chuan's considerable reputation and knew of Lin Chuan's expertise in network computing and crime scene investigation.
Yet, he was unclear that Lin Chuan also had the capability to make 'Addictive Drugs'.
"I'm a bit worried too, but I choose to believe first!" Yu Shan pondered for a moment.
He Song looked at Yu Shan and chuckled, "Since you said so, let's give it a try. I'm sure Elder Yang would understand our predicament and won't hold it against us."
All for the sake of the investigation.
"Don't worry, if it really doesn't turn out right, I'll take the scolding with you. If it does work out, won't your case progress?" Yu Shan smiled, "It's a win-win."
"That's true!" He Song smiled.
"Shouldn't you, as a narcotics team leader, be decisive and quick to action?" Yu Shan teased.
"Heh, that's for criminals!"
He Song grinned, "No need for such an approach with our own people. I'll consult with Elder Yang right away."
Soon, Elder Yang gave his approval.
Following that, Lin Chuan, Yu Shan, Xia Qingqing, and He Song, the four of them, went to Elder Yang's office.
Lin Chuan carefully observed the laboratory.
The layout and the pervasive smell were like a throwback to the 'Addictive Drug' workshop in a Virtual World.
A sense of familiarity arose in Lin Chuan's heart.
Confidence also surfaced on Lin Chuan's face.
The group passed through the lobby, down the corridor, turned two corners, and then saw Elder Yang's office.
Knock, knock, knock—
He Song personally knocked on the door.
Elder Yang looked up and, seeing He Song and others, smiled and said, "This must be Comrade Lin Chuan, right?"
"Elder Yang, it is me."
Lin Chuan nodded his head.
"Allow this old fellow to call you Lin," said Elder Yang, without any hint of disdain for Lin Chuan's youth, continuing, "I received some of your information before, very professional, but I've tried several times, all without success."
Lin Chuan looked at the diligent and eager old man and smiled, "Elder Yang, that information was incomplete, it needs additional materials and steps to be completed."
Lin Chuan nodded and said with a smile, "Yes, Elder Yang, I hope to use the laboratory, equipment, and materials here to complete the synthesis of 'Addictive Drug No. 3'."
"As long as you can create it, that's a minor issue," Elder Yang said with a smile.
The corner of Lin Chuan's mouth tilted upward, "There should be no problem."
"Lin, you might not be very familiar with this place; how about I be your assistant?" Elder Yang looked up into Lin Chuan's eyes with a burning gaze.
Lin Chuan was momentarily stunned.
He quickly understood that Elder Yang might be worried he would not know how to synthesize 'Addictive Drug No. 3' or that he might be unskilled in its operation.
There was another possibility: Elder Yang wanted to know the missing materials and the specific steps.
To one side,
Yu Shan, He Song, and Xia Qingqing watched the old and young, also feeling a shock in their hearts.
Goodness, Elder Yang becoming Lin Chuan's assistant?
Elder Yang was overseeing the battle!
If Lin Chuan could not produce it, that would indeed be a disaster!
At least, Yu Shan and He Song believed that they could not raise their heads in front of Elder Yang.
Pressure maxed out!
However, Lin Chuan seemed not to worry, calmly stating, "With Elder Yang supporting, I am even more confident!"
Seeing Lin Chuan's demeanor, Elder Yang raised his eyebrows, somewhat surprised, "Lin, are you already sure of success?"
"I wouldn't dare to claim full certainty," Lin Chuan said modestly.
Sure of success (×)
Ninety percent sure (√)
Elder Yang smiled and his eyes twinkled, "I'm somewhat looking forward to your performance."
Afterward, Lin Chuan went into a small room, disinfected, put on a mask, donned a white lab coat, and walked into the laboratory together with Elder Yang.
Lin Chuan looked at the familiar equipment and materials, inhaling a variety of sharp and familiar scents, and couldn't help feeling a little excited.
The dog system's inhuman task was finally about to be completed!
"Lin, come on," Elder Yang said, revealing a warm smile, slightly benevolent, his eyes full of expectation.
Lin Chuan calmed his emotions and nodded.
Then, he approached the experimental bench to begin his operation.
At that moment, Lin Chuan's entire temperament changed.
Elder Yang stood beside Lin Chuan, and his feelings were the most apparent.
Watching Lin Chuan, his gaze became sharp and focused, as if he were a seasoned expert who had been immersed in drug research for decades.
Lin Chuan first dissolved methanamine in toluene with precise measurements, waited two seconds, and then added 'α-bromophenylacetone'.
Elder Yang nodded inwardly.
Those two seconds were exactly the time needed for the methanamine solution to dissolve in the toluene.
This kid indeed had some skills!
Lin Chuan continued the operation, adding the catalyst sodium hydroxide to accelerate the reaction between 'α-bromophenylacetone' and methanamine.
Following that, he added hydrochloric acid...
Each of Lin Chuan's steps was performed with meticulous accuracy, to the point that Elder Yang, serving as both a supporter and supervisor, barely had a chance to intervene!
No, to be precise,
Lin Chuan's operations, like that of a veteran expert of many years, left him beyond reproach!
Even more, Elder Yang had a slight illusion...
The barely twenty-something Lin Chuan might have expertise levels skyscraping high, far above his own!
It was just, that couldn't be possible!
