The night was desolate.
Scattered points of light were embroidered into the deep blue canopy of the sky, and looking up, one could still discern the vague outline of the new moon behind the cloud veils.
The evening breeze was gentle, tree shadows gently swayed under the dim yellow streetlights, rustling softly, with the occasional call of a night bird, crisp and lingering, adding a measure of silence.
The location of the National Weapons Research Institute was not in the bustling city.
But now, it was brightly lit.
The Statistics Office, within the main control room.
Sun Cheng's body trembled, his gaze tightly captivated by the blueprint on the electronic screen, as if an invisible force prevented him from tearing his eyes away.
To the side.
The staff member who had previously been in contact with Lin Chuan saw Sun Cheng with glasses on, staring motionless at the blueprint for nearly ten minutes, as if under a spell.
"Director, director..."
The staff member called out softly twice.
Whoosh—
Sun Cheng came to his senses, took a deep breath, his gaze reluctantly moving away from the blueprint, and then he declared, "Classify this blueprint as a secret document!"
"Yes!"
The staff member's face turned solemn.
He was not an expert on Rocket Launchers and could not fathom the 'secrets' of the blueprint, but he knew the weight of 'secret documents'!
A thing labeled as 'secret document' by the Statistics Office of the National Weapons Research Institute was a military secret!
He dared not delay and immediately began the procedures!
"This blueprint is invaluable!" Next to him, Sun Cheng sighed deeply and then made sure the blueprint was archived as a 'secret document' himself.
Afterwards.
He took out his mobile phone, his right hand trembling with excitement, but it didn't prevent him from finding the 'old leader's' mobile number in his contacts.
Beep, beep, beep.
The call was waiting to be connected.
Sun Cheng straightened his back and cleared his throat.
Beep!
The call connected.
"Old leader, please have all the Rocket Launcher experts from the Institute immediately report to me!" Sun Cheng was bold, skipping courtesies and disregarding protocol!
"Old Sun, how many times have I told you, you need to be steady, steady!"
The old leader repeated with emphasis.
"Reporting to the old leader, I think, you need to come as well!" Sun Cheng stood firm and unyielding, audacious to the core.
On the other end of the phone.
The old leader was perplexed, "You better give me a reason."
"Old leader, please forgive my rashness," Sun Cheng said with 'forgiveness' on his lips but a broad smile on his face, "I have obtained a blueprint for a 'Remote Box-type Rocket Launcher.'"
"And then?"
The old leader asked in return.
Within the National Weapons Research Institute, there were enough blueprints on Rocket Launchers to fill three or four rooms.
Just one more blueprint was not surprising to the old leader.
"This 'Remote Box-type Rocket Launcher' blueprint is a bit different, its maximum range can reach 600 kilometers!" Sun Cheng declared with pride.
"600 kilometers?"
On the phone, the old leader's volume immediately increased by two notches, his tone filled with surprise.
"Old leader, steady, steady." Sun Cheng quickly reminded him.
"What nonsense are you spouting?"
The old leader immediately retorted, as there had been no research on '600-kilometer range Rocket Launchers' during this period.
No research meant no results.
If it wasn't bragging, then what was it?
"Old leader, you might not believe it if I say it, but it's designed by a contestant from the 'National Weapons Innovation Design Competition'!" Sun Cheng stated truthfully.
On the other end of the phone.
The old leader fell silent, momentarily unsure of what to say.
Was this plausible?
Or had Sun Cheng been blinded by his ambitions, making a misjudgment?
"Is it genuine?" Two seconds later, the old leader asked.
"I guarantee with my integrity, it's absolutely genuine!" Sun Cheng declared confidently.
"What's your integrity worth?"
The old leader spat out, "Alright, I'll first send two Rocket Launcher experts to check it out."
"Old leader, all Rocket Launcher experts must come together for an overnight evaluation and appraisal. If it's confirmed as feasible, I'll rush to see the designer first thing tomorrow morning!" Sun Cheng was somewhat insistent.
But he knew the sooner, the better!
If only two experts came for the appraisal, it would take at least three to five days to complete, then a report meeting, a discussion, finally waiting for approval, to go through the complete process would take at least half a month at the very least.
If not two to three months.
If it went like that, by then, the opportunity would have long passed!
And the designer of this 'Remote Box-type Rocket Launcher' was also young; what if, feeling that it was dragging on too long, he changed his mind and sold the blueprint elsewhere.
That would be a regret beyond repair.
Therefore, Sun Cheng was so adamant, even calling the old leader to the scene!
This matter should be handled exceptionally!
"I hope you're not joking!" The old leader's tone was serious.
"Old leader, if there is any issue, I am willing to take responsibility!" Sun Cheng immediately responded, proudly assuring him.
"Good!"
The old leader pondered for a moment and then agreed.
He knew that although Sun Cheng could be impulsive, his decisiveness this evening was rare.
He immediately issued the command.
—— All the Rocket Launcher experts in the capital, except for very special circumstances, must go to the Statistics Office immediately.
The command was simple.
But its implications were profound.
After receiving the old leader's approval and support, Sun Cheng also showed a smile, clenched his fist, and a surge of pride welled up within him.
If Lin Chuan's 'Remote Box-type Rocket Launcher' passed the evaluation and appraisal of a host of Rocket Launcher experts, it would mean that it could go into mass production, a completely domestically developed cutting-edge Rocket Launcher.
