Half a moon’s light, passing through sparse clouds, scattered faint silver rays, adding a layer of gossamer to the winter night.
The hazy moonlight painted Youyou’s shadow on the ground.
Though the wind was cool, it was gentle, brushing across her fair and delicate cheeks, and through her hair strands, making her thoughts flutter and lift her spirit.
At that moment,
A touch of joy appeared on her beautiful and exquisite face, "You’re releasing a new book? I thought you didn’t have any free time to write these days."
The court trial had just ended today, and Lin Chuan was already able to announce his new book, which meant he must have been prepared early on.
And not worried about the subsequent developments at all, he still focused on novel writing. This completely relaxed the slightly tense string in Youyou’s heart.
After a short while,
Lin Chuan replied, "I’ve been ready, I can release it anytime!"
"Are you free now?"
Youyou pursed her lips, a hint of a smile flickering across them, "I can’t wait to read your masterpiece!"
"I am; I’ll send it to you right now."
Inside the hot pot restaurant,
Lin Chuan put down his chopsticks, located the opening of "Ace Agent" on his phone, and immediately sent it to Youyou.
Youyou softly murmured ’Ace Agent’ to herself, thinking that by just the name, it was indeed Lin Chuan’s forte. She received the file and hurriedly opened it.
Novels were the bond between her and Lin Chuan.
Separated by distance, many times, she could only converse with Mr. Lin in the novels, resonating with Mr. Lin, knowing that Mr. Lin was Lin Chuan.
It was her intuition.
Very accurate.
So, how could she not be happy to see Lin Chuan’s new book before its release?
’Name: Mr. Lin.’
’Age: 24.’
’Gender: Male.’
’Profession: Agent.’
’Code Name: Falcon.’
’Affiliated Unit: Security Bureau.’
’Level: SSS.’
’As you can see, the above is my basic information.
’If you can infiltrate the Security Bureau, you would be able to see my file, which is sealed in a top-secret safe in the center of Room 9 of the archives department in the headquarters building.’
’If I remember correctly, at the entrance of Room 9, there is a squad of special police on guard; the safe is 3.2 meters high, 1.8 meters wide, and 0.8 meters deep, made of aerospace-grade steel, bulletproof and heat-resistant.’
’If you can get past the special police and open the safe, you will know that inside there is only one file, stamped with a ’Top Secret’ seal, recording all the missions I’ve done as an agent.’
’That’s a strategic-level file and the only SSS-level classified document in the Security Bureau.’
’After many years,’
’Those archived files are no longer taboo.’
’But the agent codenamed Falcon still remains a taboo within the circle, a subject no one dares to mention.’
’Well then,’
’If nobody brings it up, I might as well write an essay, considering it a pastime to while away the leisure hours. If it coincides with actual cases, it’s purely a coincidence.’
’Yes, purely coincidental, so don’t bother me with it.’
Youyou was just taking a walk outside her residential area, treading the paths she had walked with Lin Chuan. Once Lin Chuan sent over the beginning, she headed back.
The dim street lights and the blurry moonlight sketched a dreamy and enchanting nightscape.
As soon as she entered the door,
Youyou changed her shoes and snuggled up on the couch to continue reading.
Reading the novel required concentration, walking while reading was unsatisfactory.
It was far more comfortable to recline on the sofa.
Youyou read the first part and chuckled, "This Lin Chuan is getting more and more old-fashioned, isn’t he? If new readers see this, they might really think you’ve worked as an agent!"
But it had the right flavor!
Youyou knew that Lin Chuan’s novels often started with recollections in the narrative voice, unfolding the story in the first person. The narration seemed old-fashioned in the opening but would gradually enter different periods, reflecting the varied mental states of the character.
This was the magic of Lin Chuan.
His "Mr. Lin" had growth, changes, like a real person brought to life.
Youyou was once again captivated by ’Mr. Lin’.
Even seeing the words ’Mr. Lin’ gave her a sense of familiarity, probably because of her affection spreading from loving the house to its crow.
She continued to read.
’Agents engage in extremely dangerous undercover work.’
’This profession is almost completely distinct from all others and demands a very high standard from practitioners.’
’Agents, working on missions year-round, sometimes, one stint of undercover work can last up to ten or eight years. In this lengthy period, not only must they carry out tasks but also hide themselves, withstand scrutiny, avoid detection, making mental fortitude the foremost requirement.’
’Becoming an ace agent is as hard as reaching the sky.’
’I’ve been fortunate, having worked in the agent business for 30 years, undertaking 72 missions, with 0 failures and 72 successes.’
’In the circles, they call me the highest mountain among agents.’
’It’s quite interesting,’
’Initially, I never thought of becoming an agent.’
’The story begins at my university.’
’My university is in the South, studying Intelligence Studies, a very obscure major that I guess many friends have never heard of.’
’Originally, I intended to stay behind the scenes and work on intelligence.’
’After all, this face of mine is not meant for an agent.’
’There’s a saying, an agent should not let others remember their face. That is, it’s best to have a mundane face, unnoticed among a crowd.’
’Unfortunately, I am handsome.’
’But there are exceptions.’
’Female agents are often cherished by some organizations, since beauty traps have proven time and again to be effective.’
’By the same logic, handsome men would also find their market.’
