Chapter 71 God of Hackers
“Hello, Writer Lin.”
From the other end of the phone, Xia Qingqing’s crisp voice came through.
“Officer Xia, I have some questions about network law I’d like to consult with you about, are you available?” Lin Chuan asked.
Xia Qingqing laughed, “Right now, I’m stealing a bit of leisure amidst the busy hours, just so happens I’m free.”
Lin Chuan pondered for a moment, took a gentle breath, and asked, “If a hacker from abroad were to invade one of our country’s users to push a novel, would that be grounds for a case?”
“According to the law, invading someone else’s network or server is illegal, especially stealing secrets, core data, and so on, which are serious cybercrimes,” Xia Qingqing paused, “But you said invade a user just to push a novel...”
“Right.”
Lin Chuan nodded and replied, “Just to push a novel, without engaging in data theft or the like.”
“It’s difficult to file a case for that.”
Xia Qingqing gave it some thought and offered her opinion.
However.
Such invasion acts, if they don’t cause specific harm, at most qualify as ‘disrupting public internet order.’ But considering they’re hackers, and foreign hackers at that, generally no case would be filed.
In the cramped rental.
Lin Chuan felt uneasy, and even after hearing ‘no case would be filed,’ he didn’t feel relieved.
He continued to ask, “What if, this foreign hacker carries out large-scale invasion and then proceeds with the push?”
On the phone, Xia Qingqing frowned, “How large-scale are we talking?”
“Um... about fifty thousand people.”
“Fifty thousand!?”
Xia Qingqing’s eyes widened, “Writer Lin, that’s serious disruption of public internet order, I advise you not to do it!”
These days, Xia Qingqing had been reading Lin Chuan’s novels in her spare time.
She particularly enjoyed “Hacker Kingdom.”
However, the performance of this book didn’t seem to be that great, far worse than Lin Chuan’s previous two.
So when Xia Qingqing heard about the ‘hacker pushing novels,’ she couldn’t help but think of Lin Chuan.
“Uh...”
Lin Chuan’s mouth twitched, and he quickly emphasized, “Officer Xia, I obey the law!”
“Then, there’s no need to worry,” Xia Qingqing said with a laugh.
“That’s good.”
Lin Chuan breathed a slight sigh of relief.
Xia Qingqing hung up the phone, smiled, and murmured to herself, “Invading fifty thousand people’s networks just to push a novel, which hacker would be so idle?”
“The cost is much greater than the profit!”
Anling City, Qingxiu District.
Jintang Network Security Company.
In the office of the Chief Technical Supervisor of Network Security, Fang Cheng, also known as the number one hacker ‘Formula’ in the online literary world, rested his hands on the desk with thumbs and middle fingers pressing on the temples on either side of his head, rubbing them hard.
Fang Cheng’s hairline was high, revealing a shiny forehead, a symbol of his technical expertise.
But he felt that his skills might not be sufficient to tackle the current challenges.
During this span of time.
The network security situation in Han River Province was severe.
In the hacker community, news had spread of ‘domestic and foreign hackers engaging in all-out confrontation.’
The current state of affairs in Han River Province was close to an all-out war if it hadn’t already reached that point.
Jintang Network Security Company had previously collaborated with the Anling Police to maintain network security and fend off attacks from foreign hackers.
As the Chief Technical Supervisor, Fang Cheng was naturally one of the key responsible parties.
Only, the foreign hackers’ attacks were organized and strategic, and large in scale, making Fang Cheng somewhat powerless to resist.
Knock knock knock.
“Director Fang, this is the list of companies terminating cooperation and stopping technical supply this month, please review it.”
A staff member gently knocked on the office door and came in, handing over a document,
Fang Cheng slightly lifted his head and took the document.
‘Forbidden Summit Esports Internet Cafe’
‘Speedster Internet Cafe’
‘Starshine Internet Cafe’
‘White Night eSports Internet Cafe’
‘Dream’s Pact Internet Cafe’
“Got it,” Fang Cheng casually tossed the document on the desk and asked offhandedly, “Have these internet cafes terminated their partnership with us because they got technical support from ‘Copper Wall Network Security Company’?”
The staff shook their head and said, “According to our investigation, they haven’t partnered with ‘Copper Wall’ either.”
“Hmm?”
Fang Cheng paused, squinted his eyes slightly, “Then who are they partnering with now?”
Given the current cyber environment in Han River Province, internet cafes are at great risk of being hacked. Without solid technical support, they are essentially targets for foreign hackers.
Therefore, Fang Cheng was curious about who these internet cafes were partnering with.
The staff member thought for a moment and answered, “According to feedback, these internet cafes are partnering with a personal work studio that provides them with network security services.”
“A personal work studio, the same one?” Fang Cheng was curious.
“Yes, the same one, Studio 720, it was recently established,” the staff member replied.
“Studio 720... Alright, I got it. You can go back to work,” Fang Cheng said.
He couldn’t help but laugh.
In the current network environment, these internet cafes had actually abandoned ‘Jintang’ to partner with a newly established small studio, which seemed like a case of misjudging their priorities.
Generally speaking,
Small studios don’t possess core technologies, nor do they have some of the advanced security equipment, resulting in a significant lack of emergency response capability.
If they were to face a sudden hacker attack, then these internet cafes would instantly become paralyzed.
Oh well, let them be.
There’s a saying that’s quite right, “Let go of the desire to help and respect individual destinies.”
The termination of partnerships by several internet cafes was just a minor episode for Jintang Network Security Company.
Currently, their work’s main focus was on cooperating with the police.
This was also what troubled and worried Fang Cheng the most.
The attacks from foreign hackers were too fierce. How should they defend against them?
Fang Cheng sat back in front of the computer.
Suddenly!
He noticed that a new icon with the words ‘God of Hackers’ had appeared in the center of his computer screen.
Fang Cheng’s brows furrowed deeply; as the technical director of network security for ‘Jintang,’ his computer was supposed to be among the most secure in the company.
But now, an icon had appeared out of nowhere.
“Foreign hackers infiltrated?” Fang Cheng murmured to himself.
He immediately grasped the mouse with his right hand and placed his left on the keyboard, wanting to trace back to the source and see where this ‘God of Hackers’ icon had come from.
However, the icon seemed to be without roots, and Fang Cheng could not trace any useful information.
Moreover, when Fang Cheng attempted to delete the icon, he found it firmly fixed in place.
No matter how many ‘delete’ commands he executed, he could not remove it.
It still was morning, and the day had not yet grown hot.
Within the office, the air conditioning kept the room temperature at 26°C, but beads of sweat had already started to form on Fang Cheng’s forehead.
Because the ‘God of Hackers’ icon had started running as a program on its own.
The next second!
Several lines of large text appeared in the middle of the computer screen.
