Mike smiled and replied, "Bao Mu finally told me why he’s attacking Peach Blossom Base..."
Bao Mu knew full well that without a sufficient incentive, Mike wouldn’t abandon the Liaoyuan carrier fleet to come support him.
So, he told Mike all about the Evolution Potions, the evolved crops, and that high-performance supply ship that had suddenly appeared.
After hearing Mike’s explanation, the captains of the other two carrier fleets grew excited.
"So the Evolution Potions came from Peach Blossom Base. What a surprise!"
"And those crops with extremely short growth cycles and high yields! Peach Blossom Base is what’s really important!"
"Exactly. The Liaoyuan is just a conventionally powered carrier. Even if we captured it, it would just be a place for everyone to live. Not much use beyond that!"
"But isn’t what Bao Mu said about that supply ship a bit of an exaggeration?"
"Definitely. He’s just making excuses for his own failure!"
Mike couldn’t help but remind them, "Let’s all be careful. Xi’an Base has a carrier, after all. If they still need to call for reinforcements, it proves their opponent is anything but simple."
The other two captains nodded.
Just as they were leaving, Long Zhan immediately asked in the group chat: "What’s going on? The three carrier fleets pursuing us suddenly gave up the chase! They’re heading in the direction of Peach Blossom Base!"
Ren Yuanyang immediately replied: "Arrange for a combat-class vessel to come here, no longer than two hundred meters. Share your location!"
Although Long Zhan was confused about what use one combat vessel would be, he carried out the order nonetheless.
"Yes, sir! I’ll arrange for a ship to head over right away!" Long Zhan responded, then immediately walked out.
"How many combat-ready destroyers do we have left in the fleet?" Long Zhan asked as he walked.
"Two!" a soldier beside him immediately replied.
"Bring them both. You’re with me!" Long Zhan ordered. "The rest of the crew will tow the carrier and the remaining ships to Dawn Base. If you can’t manage it, request assistance from Dawn Base!"
"Yes, sir!"
Long Zhan boarded a destroyer, gave them the destination coordinates, and only then sat down to ask in the group chat, "Master, I’ve got the destroyers heading over. What’s the mission?"
At that moment, Wang Jun spoke up: "Naturally, to coordinate with Peach Blossom Base’s team that’s attacking Xi’an Base!"
Long Zhan was stunned for a moment. "These two destroyers of ours can’t possibly turn the tide of battle, can they?"
Ji Yizhi reminded him, "Take a look at the livestream replay from our recon team. Then you’ll understand what’s going on."
Dubiously, Long Zhan opened the livestream replay and started watching.
Soon, his eyes widened in disbelief.
The supply ship in the video completely shattered his worldview.
"What is this? Is this real?" Long Zhan couldn’t help but ask in the group chat.
"It’s a livestream! Of course it’s real!" Ji Yizhi immediately replied.
"Which country built that ship? How can its performance be so good?" Long Zhan asked next.
"It’s from Peach Blossom Base!" Wang Jun replied. "You’re just going over there to provide support and draw some fire. The main force is still that supply ship from Peach Blossom Base!"
"So that’s how it is!" Long Zhan realized.
Just then, a supply ship sped towards Long Zhan’s two destroyers!
It turned out to be Ren Yuanyang’s group; they had bypassed Mike and the others who were on their way to provide reinforcements and were now meeting up with Long Zhan.
Watching with his own eyes as the supply ship moved faster than their speedboats, Long Zhan swallowed hard. ’If our destroyers were this fast, who cares about nuclear-powered carriers? They’d all be sitting ducks for me!’
The supply ship stopped near the destroyer, and Ren Yuanyang initiated a video call with Long Zhan.
"I’ll come over in a moment and help you modify one of the destroyers. Its performance will be the same as this supply ship’s after the modification. After that, it’s your time to shine," Ren Yuanyang said.
Long Zhan was stunned for a moment, unable to immediately grasp the meaning of Ren Yuanyang’s words.
"Master, you mean you’re going to modify it for us now? Is there enough time?" Long Zhan asked, confused.
"You’ll see in a bit. Just let me board your destroyer first," Ren Yuanyang replied.
"Yes, sir!" Long Zhan immediately responded.
The two ships maintained the same speed as they moved forward. A Gold-Type Evolver created a gangway, which Ren Yuanyang used to cross over.
Gazing at the 183-meter-long destroyer, Ren Yuanyang let out a breath and said to Qin Haonan beside him, "I might fall unconscious in a bit. You’ll be my guard."
Qin Haonan was slightly taken aback, then nodded. "Don’t worry, Leader!"
Long Zhan was already there to greet them. "Master, these are our ship’s engineers. Just tell them what you need them to do!"
The engineers were all rather shocked to see Long Zhan address Ren Yuanyang as "Master."
’Since when did the Captain take such a young master?’
Though confused, they knew this was not the time for questions and could only bury their doubts deep inside.
Ren Yuanyang shook his head. "You don’t need to do anything. Just wait on the side."
With that, he walked with Qin Haonan to the middle of the destroyer, unleashed his Mental Energy to envelop the entire vessel, and immediately began to enhance it with the system!
[Hull strength enhancement...]
The type and extent of the enhancements were identical to those he had performed on the supply ship.
The enhancement was completed in a near-instant, and Ren Yuanyang, his face pale, fainted.
At this point, a group of top experts from Peach Blossom Base—including Lu Jiamei, Yu Ren, and Jin Ziyu—had already gathered by Ren Yuanyang’s side.
Qin Haonan had called them over.
Seeing Ren Yuanyang faint, they immediately formed a circle, protecting him in the center. Lu Jiamei tended to him from within the circle, while Qin Haonan stepped out.
"How is Master?" Long Zhan, seeing Ren Yuanyang collapse, wanted to get closer to check, but was blocked by Qin Haonan.
"The Leader said before he came over that he might pass out. You don’t need to worry; we will take good care of him," Qin Haonan said. "The destroyer’s modification is complete. You need to adapt to its new performance as quickly as possible, then hurry to the battlefield and defeat the Xi’an Base fleet. That’s the only way to not let the Leader’s efforts and sacrifice be in vain."
Long Zhan was stunned. "The modification is... already complete?"
Qin Haonan nodded. "Don’t have the other destroyer follow. This destroyer of yours will now be the main assault ship, and the supply ship will support you. Get going! The Xi’an Base forces might be closing in on Peach Blossom Base already!"
"Yes, sir!" Long Zhan replied in a low voice, then immediately gave the order, "All combat personnel, prepare for battle. Familiarize yourselves with the ship’s modified performance."
All the soldiers on the destroyer were a bit baffled by the order, but when the ship accelerated to full speed towards its destination, everyone was dumbfounded.
"Since when could our destroyer move this fast?"
"I don’t think even our base’s speedboats can keep up with this, can they?"
"Most importantly, how is the hull so stable at this speed?"
"Stop talking! Start training with blanks! We need to figure out how to improve our accuracy at high speeds!"
"Yes, sir!" the crew shouted in unison.
Long Zhan felt like his entire worldview had been completely shattered.
’What on earth did Master just do?’
He had only sensed a vast fluctuation of Mental Energy and nothing else!
’Can you really modify a ship just by using Mental Energy? But isn’t Master a Wood-Type Evolver?’
His mind full of questions, Long Zhan explained the situation to Wang Jun and Ji Yizhi.
Wang Jun and Ji Yizhi were also stunned.
But soon, Ji Yizhi seemed to have figured something out. He said, "No wonder Master went into seclusion. It turns out that after his retreat, he can actually modify ships and cause a qualitative leap in their performance!"
"No wonder Master never wanted to relocate Peach Blossom Base. So this was his trump card all along!" Wang Jun exclaimed with emotion.
Long Zhan was still confused. "But how did Master use Mental Energy to modify the ship? Forget that he’s a Wood-Type; even a Gold-Type shouldn’t be able to upgrade a ship to such a high performance level!"
Ji Yizhi smiled slightly. "Old Long, there’s no need to get to the bottom of everything. This is probably Master’s secret. Just think of it as his special ability. In any case, with Master having this power, no petty thieves will dare to invade our base in the future!"
Long Zhan paused, then smiled and nodded. "That’s true. I was just so shocked by Master’s ability that I couldn’t wrap my head around it. You’re right, it doesn’t matter how Master did it. As long as I can use it, that’s all that counts!"
"Even though the destroyer has been modified and its performance is incredible, you still need to be careful! You’re up against four carrier fleets, after all!" Wang Jun couldn’t help but remind him.
