Lin Mu and the other two hurried toward the shipping container’s location. When they arrived at where the container used to be, they all froze.
The original shipping container was gone. In its place stood a metal building.
"When did the Leader have the shipping container replaced?" Jianghu asked in surprise.
"He must have just done it," Lin Mu replied. "Still, this is much better for reception and office work."
The other two agreed completely and followed Lin Mu inside.
Ren Yuanyang and the others who had just gotten back hadn’t gone to their rooms to rest. Instead, they were flipping through data on their computers.
When Xin Wan saw Lin Mu and the others come in, she stood up and asked, "Minister Lin, what brings you here?"
"Minister Xin, Jianghu just thought of something," Lin Mu replied. "I believed it was necessary to report it to the Leader, so we rushed over."
At his words, everyone looked up from their computers. Ren Yuanyang, who was in an office in the back, heard him as well and came out.
"What is it?" Ren Yuanyang asked curiously.
"Jianghu suggested that if the toxins in the rain were added by an Advanced Civilization to weed out humanity, then by producing the Dripping Lotus, you’ve sabotaged their plan. Wouldn’t that make our base a thorn in their side?" Lin Mu quickly relayed Jianghu’s theory.
Ren Yuanyang and the others froze for a moment, then their brows furrowed in thought.
"That’s a very real possibility," Lu Jiamei said, her face clouded with worry.
Ren Yuanyang contemplated for a moment before speaking. "There’s no need to worry too much. If an Advanced Civilization really exists, they would have noticed our base long ago!"
After all, Peach Blossom Base is too unique. A huge Banyan Forest appearing in the middle of a vast ocean would easily attract an Advanced Civilization’s attention!
"If they wanted to move against us, they would have done it long ago. There’s no need to take such a roundabout approach by poisoning the rain."
Everyone nodded.
Ren Yuanyang continued, "And to look at it another way, even if we are targeted by an Advanced Civilization, nothing we do will change the outcome. So there’s no point in agonizing over it!"
Lin Mu cupped his hands in a fist. "You’re right, Leader. I wasn’t thinking clearly. I overreacted."
Ren Yuanyang shook his head slightly. "Still, Jianghu’s idea offers a new perspective. Maybe we really can discover the truth behind this global cataclysm!"
Hearing this, Jianghu grew excited. His idea had actually been validated by the Leader!
Yu Ren sounded a bit pessimistic. "Can we really discover the truth of this world?"
Hua Lingfang said with a smile, "If our base can’t, then no other base on Blue Star can!"
Yu Ren paused, then nodded. ’Peach Blossom Base’s circumstances are absolutely unique on Blue Star. No other base can even compare!’
"Even though we’re just pawns on a chessboard right now, and many things are out of our hands, we can still strive to become valuable. I’ve always believed the valuable pieces are the ones left at the end of the game. Maybe then, we’ll finally see the truth of this world!" Ren Yuanyang said in a low, serious voice. "Instead of needlessly worrying, we should focus on living each day as it comes."
"Understood, Leader!" Lin Mu and the others replied in unison.
"It’s getting late. Everyone, go get some rest," Ren Yuanyang said with a smile.
"Yes, Leader!" Lin Mu and the other two turned and left.
Lu Jiamei picked up a nearby cattail-leaf fan and grumbled, "It’s going to be hard to fall asleep tonight. It’s so hot!"
"The weather is so strange! By all rights, it should be autumn by now," Hua Lingfang lamented.
"Everyone can take some ice to their rooms," Ren Yuanyang suggested. "If you really can’t sleep, go rest on one of the yachts or speedboats."
Their rooms didn’t have air conditioning, but the yachts and speedboats did. Peach Blossom Base had more than enough fuel to keep them running!
Of course, the base had a rule that the air conditioners on the boats couldn’t run for more than eight consecutive hours and had to be shut down for at least two hours.
"Yes, Leader!" Lu Jiamei and the others responded.
"Notify everyone else, too," Ren Yuanyang added.
Lu Jiamei immediately typed up a message and sent it to the Peach Blossom Base group chat.
"Notice from the Leader: Due to the hot weather, everyone may choose to rest on the various vessels. Please maintain order and do not interfere with the Banyan Forest expansion work."
"Roger that, thank you, Leader!" came the flood of replies.
By now, Lin Mu had returned to his room. As soon as he received the message, he headed for Yu Ren’s place.
"Brother Yu!" Lin Mu called out softly.
The door to the bamboo house opened, and a shirtless Yu Ren appeared before Lin Mu. "Minister Lin, do you need something?"
Lin Mu nodded slightly. "The Leader just sent out a notice. It’s too hot, so people can go rest on the boats, as long as they don’t interfere with the Banyan Forest expansion work. Go and tell the others."
Yu Ren paused, surprised. "This base is pretty considerate, letting us use the AC on the boats just because it’s a little hot!"
Lin Mu nodded. "Probably only our base takes care of its people this well. But I think it’s fine. It’s a little hot, but it’s bearable here in the Banyan Forest."
"Right, I’ll go tell the others now." Yu Ren immediately headed for the other bamboo houses to pass on Ren Yuanyang’s notice.
Tu Chong and the others were instantly thrilled.
"Finally! We can go on the boats and blast the AC!"
"Peach Blossom Base is the best! I’ll live and die for this place!"
"Doesn’t the AC use a ton of fuel? Can the base afford to be this extravagant?"
"Don’t worry. I was working at the oil press this afternoon, and there’s a ton of fuel there! We could run the AC every day and we’d still never run out!"
