’So this is where our supply ship is!’ James thought.
He was escorted into a cabin, where he was surprised to find the entire crew from the supply ship mission. Not a single one was missing. There were even a few of the Evolvers who had come to scout Peach Blossom Base previously!
"James? What are you doing here?" The supply ship’s captain, Des, was just as surprised to see him.
James shrugged. "We got wiped out, too."
"Wiped out?" Des frowned, not quite understanding.
But as the Evolvers behind James filed in one after another, Des and his men were left completely stunned.
"Don’t tell me they rounded up every Evolver from our base?" Des found it hard to believe.
James gave a wry smile. "Not all of them, but the number of us here accounts for more than half of all the Evolvers at the base!"
"Hmph. That’s only because they used dirty tricks to knock us all out!" Even as a prisoner, Des refused to accept it. "If we’d fought them head-on, they would’ve been no match for us!"
James and his group all turned to look at him, their expressions unreadable.
"What’s with that look?" Des asked, puzzled. He ignored it and continued, "But now that you’re here, we can put our heads together and take the supply ship back!"
James rolled his eyes at that. "Just forget it. If we behave ourselves as prisoners, we might just live through this."
"What? How can you think like that?" Des frowned, watching James walk over to a corner and sit down.
James retorted, "Have you ever considered why they dared to lock us all in here together? Don’t they know that this many Evolvers in one place is an incredibly powerful force?"
Des faltered for a moment. "What if they’re just being careless, or overconfident? We have to at least try!"
James shot him a look and said flatly, "You guys were knocked out by a trick. We were defeated in a direct fight."
"What? How is that possible!" Des’s eyes went wide.
James’s group, after all, consisted of eighteen Evolvers. And their Mental Energy was, on average, higher than that of the Evolvers from the supply ship!
’And they were defeated in a direct fight?’
The Evolvers who had entered with James all nodded in unison.
"They just tanked our Superpower attacks and brutally slammed into us until we were unconscious. We don’t even know what kind of Superpowers they have!" James shook his head and added, "If you want to get yourself killed, go right ahead, but don’t drag us down with you!"
Des immediately fell silent.
"Besides," James added, "you know they have that stuff that can knock us out. You really think they wouldn’t be prepared for an escape attempt? I bet the moment you even think about making a move, this whole cabin will be flooded with that Confusing Fragrance."
Des froze again, then let out a long sigh.
"Never mind, then."
In the end, he gave up on the idea of fighting back.
"Do you think... they’ll kill us?" Des suddenly asked.
James paused. "Probably not. If they wanted us dead, they would’ve killed us already. It would be too much trouble to bring us all the way back here just to have someone guard us."
Des considered this for a moment, then nodded.
"Besides, we’re Evolvers. We’re more valuable than the average survivor. As long as we don’t cause any trouble and just do the work we’re told, they probably won’t kill us," James continued. "What’s the difference who we work for, anyway?"
Des nodded again.
Back at Xi’an Base, they were just enforcers. Their status was much higher than that of ordinary survivors, but they were still just taking orders.
"Now that you mention it, you have a point. At least the food here is way better than at Xi’an Base!" Des said with a laugh.
"Really?" James’s interest was suddenly piqued. "Now that you mention it, I’m starting to get a little hungry myself!"
