By the time the Xi’an Base ships had adjusted their orientation, preparing to fire on the supply ship, they were shocked to discover their target was already gone!
"What’s going on? How can that supply ship be so fast?"
"It turned really fast just now, too!"
"How can a ship that big move so quickly?"
While they were still in shock, Ren Yuanyang launched a second wave of attacks, disabling several more of the Xi’an Base’s warships!
Des watched everything unfold before him, incredibly excited.
He had been in plenty of naval battles before—though most were just drills—but never had he experienced such an overwhelming victory!
Bao Mu roared in fury, "Are you all idiots? Don’t have every ship aim in the same direction! Adjust your positions immediately and make sure that no matter where the enemy is, at least one of our ships has a clear shot!"
"Yes, sir!"
The Xi’an Base ships began to adjust their formation once again.
In truth, they couldn’t be blamed. No one could have expected a supply ship to be so agile—faster, even, than most speedboats.
Ren Yuanyang also knew he was capitalizing on the element of surprise. If the enemy adapted to his ship’s speed and laid down covering fire with so many vessels, the supply ship would still be hit.
While the Xi’an Base was adjusting its formation, Des used the supply ship’s speed advantage to press their attack and rack up more victories.
By the time they had settled into formation, only three of their ships were still capable of moving.
"Sir, we might have to abandon the attack on Peach Blossom Base!" an aide from the Xi’an Base said with a frown. "We haven’t managed to hit that supply ship even once. Its maneuverability is just too high!"
Bao Mu’s expression was grim.
"Furthermore," the aide continued, forcing himself to speak, "the power of their shells far exceeds our own. None of the munitions we know of can compare! They must have made some kind of technological breakthrough! If we remain here, a single one of their shells hitting any of our ships will almost certainly disable it."
"But we can’t just abandon this many ships, can we?" Bao Mu’s brow was tightly furrowed.
"Then our only option is to call for General Mike’s support!" the aide replied helplessly. "But it’s hard to say if we can even hold out until they get here."
"Call Mike for reinforcements immediately!" Bao Mu ordered decisively. "And tell all our ships to hold their ground!"
"Yes, sir!" the aide replied, a hint of resignation on his face. He had originally wanted to suggest a full retreat.
But Bao Mu was still unwilling to part with his ships.
After the Xi’an Base decided to dig in, their ships formed a rough circle. Any approach, from any direction, would be met with cannon fire.
"Chief, if we continue to press the attack now, we’ll likely get hit," Des said, frowning slightly as he looked at the enemy’s formation and reported to Ren Yuanyang.
Ren Yuanyang nodded slightly, his gaze fixed on the Xi’an Base fleet as he fell into deep thought.
Standing to the side, Qin Haonan was a little confused. "Are they not planning on leaving?"
"It’s not that they aren’t planning to leave, it’s that they can’t bear to," Des said, shaking his head. "We’ve damaged so many of their ships. If they were to retreat now, they’d have to leave all those vessels behind, along with the crews!"
"Even if they can’t bear to, repairs will take time! And there’s no guarantee they can even be fixed!" Qin Haonan retorted with a pout.
Ren Yuanyang nodded slightly and offered his assessment: "They must be waiting for reinforcements."
"Reinforcements? You mean they’re waiting for the other three aircraft carrier fleets?" Des reacted instantly.
Ren Yuanyang nodded.
"Doesn’t that put us in danger?" Des’s brow furrowed.
’This supply ship is powerful, but against three aircraft carrier fleets, its only option is to run!’
"We’ll still need to borrow the Aircraft Carrier Base’s combat ships," Ren Yuanyang said in a low voice. "I’ll contact Long Zhan."
Meanwhile, the three aircraft carrier fleets led by Mike were on the verge of completely surrounding the Liaoyuan’s carrier fleet.
"Captain, you need to evacuate on a speedboat, now!" a nearby soldier said, running over. "In twenty minutes, at most, they’ll have us completely surrounded. By then, there will be no escape!"
Long Zhan shook his head. "Let the other Warriors leave. As the captain of the Liaoyuan’s aircraft carrier fleet, I will go down with the Liaoyuan!"
"Captain, as long as you’re alive, there’s hope! The speedboat is ready. We need you to avenge us!" The soldier stepped forward and started pulling at Long Zhan.
But Long Zhan didn’t budge an inch. As one of the first awakened Evolvers, if he didn’t want to move, no one in the Aircraft Carrier Base could make him.
"Captain!" The soldier was so anxious he was on the verge of tears.
Just then, a scout’s voice came over the intercom.
"Captain, the enemy is withdrawing! It looks like they’re heading in the direction of Peach Blossom Base!"
Hearing this, Long Zhan froze for a moment, then immediately rushed outside.
The ships that had been on the verge of encircling them were truly pulling away!
"What’s going on?" Long Zhan couldn’t make any sense of their actions.
It wasn’t just Long Zhan; on Mike’s side, the captains of the other two aircraft carrier fleets were also confused.
"General Mike, we were about to have them surrounded. Why are we giving up now?"
Mike had no choice but to explain, "Bao Mu gave us a direct order to go provide support immediately. No delays."
"Alright, cut the act. There’s no one else here. You wouldn’t obey Bao Mu so readily unless there was something bigger in it for you. So, out with it."
