"Are you kidding me? The Sea Eagle Country’s carrier fleet is this cowardly?" Long Zhan was speechless.
They were still nearly a hundred kilometers away from the Sea Eagle Country’s carrier fleet!
After he explained the situation in the group chat, Ji Yizhi spoke up. "Just as I thought. They’re dead set on avoiding a direct confrontation!"
"So, should I just head back now?" Long Zhan asked, frowning.
Ren Yuanyang immediately replied, "Keep chasing them. The Sea Eagle Country’s carriers are nuclear-powered, but their other ships shouldn’t be!"
At these words, Long Zhan paused for a moment, then immediately understood what he meant.
Nuclear-powered carriers didn’t have to worry about power, but the other ships needed fuel. By chasing them, they could force them to burn through their fuel reserves. When a real fight finally broke out, those ships would be much less effective!
Ji Yizhi agreed. "Master is right, we have to keep chasing them! Fuel production has come to a halt these past two days because all our storage is full. This is the perfect opportunity for us to burn through some of our supply as well!"
"Roger that!" Long Zhan responded, directing his fleet to continue the pursuit of the Sea Eagle Country’s carrier group.
In the captain’s lounge, Mike casually asked around the pipe clenched in his teeth, "Has the fleet from the Aircraft Carrier Base stopped?"
After confirming, a nearby soldier frowned and replied, "General, they haven’t stopped. They’re still pursuing us at full speed!"
Mike froze. He frowned, removed the pipe from his mouth, and said, "Is that carrier fleet insane? Their conventionally-powered carrier has no hope of catching us. Why are they wasting their effort on something so futile?"
"Exactly. Chasing us like this will burn a massive amount of fuel. Do they even have that much to spare?"
Everyone was bewildered.
Mike thought for a moment before speaking. "They must be trying to drain the fuel from our other ships and cripple them!"
"But wouldn’t they burn through their own fuel doing that? Is a pyrrhic victory like that really worth it?"
Mike shook his head. "God knows what they’re thinking."
"Should we increase our speed, then?" the nearby soldier asked.
They had assumed that by voluntarily withdrawing, the fleet from the Aircraft Carrier Base would stop its pursuit. As a result, they had already reduced the entire fleet’s speed to its most fuel-efficient level.
But now, it seemed the Aircraft Carrier Base was relentless. The distance between them was steadily closing.
"Increase speed," Mike said, frustrated. He had no other choice. After all, he had no real confidence he could defeat the Dragon Country’s fleet in a head-to-head battle.
The speedboats tracking the Sea Eagle Country’s carrier fleet immediately noticed them picking up speed.
"Captain, the Sea Eagle Country’s fleet is picking up speed!"
Long Zhan replied with a smile, "Excellent. We’ve achieved our objective. Keep tailing them, and stay safe."
"Yes, sir!"
Just then, Zhao Jun, the head of the laboratory at the Aircraft Carrier Base, came to Wang Jun to report. "Captain, the toxin levels in the rainwater are now extremely low. They’re almost harmless to humans. The virus concentration is also showing signs of decreasing."
Wang Jun nodded. "Finally, some good news. Once the toxin levels drop a little further, we can start our ocean farming again."
The main concern with growing crops outdoors was the risk of them absorbing toxins from the rain into their fruits.
As for the virus in the rain, it was a zoological virus that didn’t infect plants. As long as the crops were properly washed and disinfected after harvesting, it wouldn’t be a major issue.
Zhao Jun nodded, then made a request. "Captain, could we get some of the Enhancement Seeds? We want to study just how the Peach Blossom Base managed to create them."
Wang Jun considered it for a moment. "Alright, but not too many. One pound of each type."
"Excellent! Thank you, Captain. A pound will be more than enough!" Zhao Jun replied happily.
"There will likely be more Enhancement Seeds in the future, so you won’t be left out. But the lab must keep these seeds secure. It’s crucial they don’t get out," Wang Jun instructed.
If other fleets or bases got their hands on the Enhancement Seeds, they might not only crack the method for creating them, but could also engage in targeted sabotage.
The base’s food security was at stake. We couldn’t afford to be careless.
"Yes, sir! Rest assured, Captain. We will keep a detailed log of every seed that enters the lab. I guarantee not a single one will ever get out," Zhao Jun promised, thumping his chest.
Wang Jun nodded, waving a hand to dismiss him. He then immediately reported the situation to Ren Yuanyang.
Ren Yuanyang was also delighted to hear the news. Without the effects of the toxins, planting on his end would become much more convenient as well.
’It’s still such a hassle having to shield everything from the toxic rain and purify water for the crops.’
"It looks like things are starting to show signs of returning to normal," Ren Yuanyang remarked with a nod.
"Yes, the ambient temperature has also begun to drop steadily. It’s already down to thirty-eight degrees Celsius," Wang Jun replied.
As for the incessant downpour, Ren Yuanyang and the others had already grown accustomed to it.
"In that case, go ahead and prepare to start the ocean farming. I’ll get some more Enhancement Seeds ready to send over," Ren Yuanyang continued. "The upgraded dizzy fish grass should be arriving at the Aircraft Carrier Base soon, too. Everything is falling into place perfectly."
Wang Jun nodded. "You’re right. But if we start ocean farming, these enhanced crops will be completely out in the open for everyone to see."
Ren Yuanyang smiled faintly. "Didn’t you already leak the news? Now you’re just letting them see the proof with their own eyes."
