"The Leader wants to see you!"
Jianghu replied, then turned and walked deeper into the Banyan Forest.
Tu Chong and the other two were stunned for a moment before quickly following him. They weren’t too surprised; Lu Jiamei had already told them the Leader might want to meet them.
Jianghu quickly led the three of them to the shipping container.
The three men looked at the container resting on the Duckweed, still marveling at the plants’ buoyancy.
The container was brightly lit inside. They followed Jianghu in, feeling a little nervous.
When Xin Wan saw them approach, she alerted Ren Yuanyang, who was sitting in front of a computer.
Ren Yuanyang looked up, saw Tu Chong’s group, and walked over.
"Let’s sit and talk." Ren Yuanyang sat down at the round table. Seeing that Tu Chong and the others were a bit tense, he smiled and said, "Don’t be nervous. It’s not like I bite."
Ren Yuanyang seemed very approachable now, completely different from when he had interrogated Tu Chong’s party before.
The trio’s tension eased slightly. Tu Chong was the first to step forward and sit down. "Leader," he asked, "is there something you wanted to see us about?"
Ren Yuanyang looked at the rather burly Tu Chong and replied with a smile, "Of course. It’s good news."
The three of them immediately perked up, leaning forward in anticipation.
"Our base doesn’t have many people, and even fewer with professional skills," Ren Yuanyang continued. "So, people like you, who have a special talent, will be entrusted with important responsibilities."
Joy flashed across the faces of the three men, but then Tu Chong looked puzzled. "Leader, I’m just a butcher. I can’t imagine the base has any use for that."
’Behind Ren Yuanyang were several laptops. An electrician like Gao Dian and a programmer like Aiti would certainly be useful. But I’m just a butcher,’ he thought. ’Even if the base has pigs, they can’t possibly be for slaughtering right now. Breeding them has to be the priority.’
’I don’t know how to deliver piglets, and raising pigs is a long process that I know nothing about. I might not have anything to do for a long time.’
Ren Yuanyang replied with a smile, "Right now, a butcher is exactly what our base is missing!"
Tu Chong was taken aback. "You mean the base actually has pigs ready for slaughter?"
"Of course. Probably in the next day or two," Ren Yuanyang said with a slight nod. "You should get ready."
"No problem!" Tu Chong immediately agreed. "But I’ll need some knives..."
"Don’t worry. Any kind of knife you can name, we can get for you," Ren Yuanyang replied with a smile.
Tu Chong paused for a second, then it dawned on him. ’Peach Blossom Base is this powerful, so they must have Evolvers!’
"Leader," Aiti said, cautiously raising his hand.
Ren Yuanyang looked at him and asked, "Is there something you need?"
"Could I... request a computer?" Aiti’s voice grew quieter and quieter until it was barely a whisper.
He had just arrived at Peach Blossom Base and was already asking for a computer?
Tu Chong and Gao Dian thought in unison, ’This guy really has the nerve to ask for anything!’
As an IT guy, seeing his tools of the trade, he couldn’t help but make such a request.
"Of course you can."
Ren Yuanyang’s answer stunned everyone.
’The Leader actually agreed?’ Tu Chong and Gao Dian’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Aiti was even more incredulous. "R-Really?"
"Of course it is," Ren Yuanyang replied. "You’ll be responsible for maintaining the base’s local area network, understand?"
Aiti immediately puffed out his chest and vowed, "Don’t worry, Leader! I’ll give it my all and work until I drop!"
Ren Yuanyang shook his head. "Don’t talk about dying. It’s bad luck. I want everyone to live good, long lives."
The three men were stunned for a moment, then nodded gratefully.
Indeed, all they wanted was to live on.
At this point, Gao Dian spoke up. "Leader, what can I do?"
"Perform routine checks and maintenance on the electrical circuits on the speedboats and here at the base," Ren Yuanyang replied.
"Understood!" Gao Dian responded.
Just then, an employee from the breeding farm rushed over.
"The base’s sow looks like she’s about to give birth!"
Hua Lingfang, who was at his computer reading ancient Chinese medical texts, heard the news, shot to his feet, and ran toward the breeding farm.
"Xin Wan, you’ll be in charge of these three from now on!" Ren Yuanyang called out before following as well.
After all, Hua Lingfang wasn’t a professional at delivering piglets, and neither was Ren Yuanyang, but he could use the Enhancement System to increase the piglets’ survival rate.
"Understood!" Xin Wan replied.
Tu Chong was stunned. "So the base really is raising pigs?"
"Aren’t you going to go see?" Gao Dian prompted.
Tu Chong shook his head decisively. "A butcher can’t go into a pigsty. Many farms even require their employees not to eat pork."
"There are that many customs about it?" Aiti was astounded.
"It’s basically that the auras of a butcher and a pig farmer don’t mix. If I went over there, the farm’s pigs might not grow well," Tu Chong explained.
"Is it really that mystical?" Gao Dian was skeptical.
Tu Chong glanced at him and replied, "If you don’t understand something, you should at least show it some respect. Just like the world we live in now."
Gao Dian shuddered, then nodded.
Xin Wan, who had overheard their discussion from the side, spoke up. "We don’t need to worry about what’s happening at the farm. Let’s focus on our own jobs first. Gao Dian, why don’t you start by familiarizing yourself with the electrical systems at the base and on the boats?"
"Yes, Minister Xin!" Gao Dian replied respectfully.
"This laptop is for you. From now on, you’re in charge of all network-related matters," Xin Wan said, handing a laptop to Aiti.
"Yes!" Aiti accepted the computer excitedly.
