The Captain of Dawn pondered for a moment before finally shaking his head. "Peach Blossom Base has made it clear that for these high-priority plants, the price is at most a few times that of other plants. It’s unrealistic to think we can trade this one stalk of licorice for their Spray Melons and Iron Melons!"
The adjutant at his side was momentarily stunned, then nodded.
"Peach Blossom Base needs it, which is precisely why I won’t sell it to them!" the captain sneered, continuing, "Not only will I refuse to sell, I’m going to mess with them a little!"
As he spoke, the captain took a photo of the licorice in his hand and posted it directly to the regional channel.
When the other survivors saw the photo, they immediately started discussing it.
"Hey, Dawn, if you found one of the plants, you can just PM Peach Blossom Base. Why are you posting it in the public channel?"
"Yeah, just PM them and ask if they’re buying. You might even be able to trade it for some Cherry Tomatoes."
"It’s not just Cherry Tomatoes now. You might even get some honey peaches!"
"Yeah, my mouth is watering just thinking about it!"
"What the hell do you all know? That’s licorice! It’s one of the plants Peach Blossom Base is specifically trying to acquire!"
"Huh? So that’s what a licorice plant looks like!"
"That’s right, it’s definitely licorice! @Tattooed Haonan, you’re up!"
Qin Haonan’s phone suddenly buzzed. He checked it immediately and saw that someone had tagged him in the regional channel.
After briefly scrolling through the chat history, Qin Haonan’s eyes lit up.
"Boss, we’ve got a lead on the licorice! Look at the regional channel!"
Hearing this, Ren Yuanyang immediately opened the regional channel as well.
The moment he saw the photo, a system notification appeared.
[Licorice: A perennial herb of the genus Glycyrrhiza in the legume family... Its root and rhizome can be used medicinally, possessing effects such as replenishing qi, detoxification, and harmonizing other medicines...]
"Yes, that’s it!" Ren Yuanyang grew excited as well. "’Dawn?’ Could he be connected to Dawn Base? Never mind that. PM this survivor named Dawn first!"
Qin Haonan nodded and immediately sent a private message to Dawn.
"Hey man, is that licorice in your hand for sale?"
"Who the hell are you calling ’man’? Not for sale! I was just showing it off to you all!"
Stunned by the other party’s explosive reply, Qin Haonan frowned and typed back, "I don’t think our base has done anything to offend you, have we?"
"You wiped out one of our teams and still say you haven’t offended me? Hmph! I’d rather feed this licorice to the dogs than give it to you!" the Captain of Dawn replied, then immediately blocked Qin Haonan.
It instantly clicked for Qin Haonan. "Boss, he’s definitely from Dawn Base. They’re just trying to mess with us."
Ren Yuanyang was taken aback for a second. He glanced at the phone Qin Haonan handed him and sneered, "So it’s true! In that case, we don’t need to be polite anymore!"
"Boss, what do you need me to do?" Qin Haonan pressed.
"Watch the show," Ren Yuanyang replied, then immediately posted a message in the regional channel.
"Peach Blossom Base has never had any ill will toward any person or any other base, but some bases insist on antagonizing us. Last time, while we were trading with the Aircraft Carrier Base, they tried to ambush our trade convoy and steal our goods. They didn’t expect to be wiped out by our team instead!"
"Now they’ve found licorice and are deliberately showing it off to spite us. All I can say is, you’ve completely miscalculated. That plant isn’t a necessity for us, and the Aircraft Carrier Base has more than enough licorice to sell me!"
Seeing Ren Yuanyang post two messages in a row, the other survivors immediately started gossiping.
"What’s going on? Is the guy who found the licorice not planning to sell it?"
"Looks like it. Deliberately showing it off to Peach Blossom Base without any intention of selling. That’s a real dick move."
"What I want to know is, who is Peach Blossom Base talking about?"
"It has to be the guy named Dawn who posted the licorice photo earlier! Based on his ID, he’s probably from Dawn Base."
"You all guessed right, it’s Dawn Base. When they ambushed our trade convoy last time, I couldn’t be bothered to deal with those clowns, but they keep provoking me, and I’m getting really sick of it. So I’m making an announcement: from now on, whoever kills the captain of Dawn Base, I will personally guarantee they will never have to worry about food or drink again." Ren Yuanyang said, piggybacking on the conversation to issue a mission.
"Holy shit, never have to worry about food and drink? For real?"
"Even on the big ships, food probably has to be rationed these days. Are you sure you can guarantee someone will never have to worry about food?"
"Peach Blossom Base is trading food for plants, which means they must have a surplus. I believe Peach Blossom Base!"
"I believe them too, but this mission is just too difficult!"
"Don’t you guys get it? This mission from Peach Blossom Base is meant for the people inside Dawn Base!"
"Exactly. An outsider would never be able to get close to the leader of a base. It would be nearly impossible to complete this mission!"
"Now we just have to see if there’s anyone in Dawn Base who can get close to the captain and isn’t getting enough to eat!"
"Not having enough to eat is normal these days. What base actually has enough food for people to eat their fill?"
Seeing the mission Ren Yuanyang had posted in the regional channel, as well as the ensuing discussion, the Captain of Dawn immediately looked warily at the people around him.
The adjutant at his side spoke up at once. "Captain, Peach Blossom Base is just trying to create dissent! You have to trust us. We would never betray Dawn Base!"
The captain immediately laughed. "Of course I trust you. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have you by my side. Taoyuan Yang wants to sow discord and turn us against each other. We absolutely cannot fall into his trap!"
