"Yeah, but we’re still unclear on the situation with this toxin," Wang Jun said, the problem giving him a headache. "If they really wanted to eliminate us, why would the concentration be decreasing?"
"It’s certainly strange. But we don’t know the rules behind it all, so we can only do our best to play along and survive," Ren Yuanyang said, shaking his head with a sigh. "It seems the temperature has dropped a little, too."
"Yes. For now, it seems like things are looking up," Wang Jun replied.
"Mm, then we’ll just have to take it as it comes," Ren Yuanyang said with a smile.
"That’s all we can do. Be careful. The Xi’an Base is likely targeting you," Wang Jun reminded him.
"Mm, thanks for the warning. We’ll be careful." Ren Yuanyang nodded and ended the call.
Wang Jun immediately relayed this intelligence to Long Zhan.
"They only have eight ships? Looks like this won’t be much of a challenge either," Long Zhan said with a laugh.
Ji Yizhi couldn’t help but remind him, "The Xi’an Base isn’t far from there. Reinforcements could arrive at any time. Don’t get careless."
"Mm, I understand," Long Zhan replied with a smile.
"Visibility is worse at night. Have some more patrol boats circle the area. Don’t skimp on fuel when it comes to safety," Wang Jun urged.
"Of course I’m not going to skimp on fuel. We can buy more from the Peach Blossom Base later, so there’s no need to conserve such a small amount," Long Zhan replied with a nod.
"I just hope the Peach Blossom Base doesn’t disappoint us," Ji Yizhi remarked with a sigh.
"What? You’re still doubting the Peach Blossom Base’s capabilities?" Long Zhan raised an eyebrow, looking at Ji Yizhi.
Ji Yizhi shook his head. "I’m not doubting their capabilities. I’m just worried whether their fuel production can supply all of our ships."
"Don’t worry. You just need to think about what we can use to trade for fuel. As long as we offer something they need, I’m sure Taoyuan Yang can provide enough fuel for us." Long Zhan had exceptional faith in the Peach Blossom Base.
Ji Yizhi smiled faintly. "Alright then. In that case, I’d better give some serious thought to what the Peach Blossom Base might need."
While the people at the Aircraft Carrier Base were pondering what the Peach Blossom Base needed, the new arrivals who had just reached the Peach Blossom Base that day couldn’t ask for anything more.
At that moment, they were in the lounge of the supply ship, still savoring the memory of that night’s dinner.
"I never thought dinner would be even more lavish than lunch!"
"If only I’d arrived at the Peach Blossom Base a day sooner, I wouldn’t have had to starve for so many days!"
"If the food is like this every day, I’d be willing to work at the Peach Blossom Base for the rest of my life!"
"Even if it’s not every single day, I’d be satisfied just eating like this every few days!"
"Best of all, the work here isn’t hard, and we get to clock out on time. I couldn’t even clock out on time at my job before the floods!"
Gold-Type Evolvers had modified the supply ship’s lounge, creating more than enough bunks for all of them to sleep.
The ship’s air conditioning was running at full blast. It was hot and stuffy outside, but inside the lounge, it was refreshingly cool.
Lying in their beds, they were too excited to sleep.
"It seems like our base has a lot of Evolvers, doesn’t it?"
"It’s not ’seems,’ it’s a fact. I asked the other guys—every single person who was supervising our work is an Evolver!"
"How does our base have so many Evolvers?"
"That’s not for us to know. The more Evolvers we have, the more it proves how powerful our base is!"
"You guys are really overthinking it. I’m just amazed the base is willing to run the AC for us. Leaving it on all night must use a ton of electricity!"
"Exactly! On the way here, back when we were being sold to the Xi’an Base, the AC in the cabin was never on. Comparing the two, the Peach Blossom Base is practically heaven on earth!"
"Enough talk. I’m going to get some proper rest. I have to work hard tomorrow to deserve the amazing living conditions the base is giving us."
"Right. Everyone should get some rest. And if you’re going to talk, don’t disturb the others who are trying to sleep."
Everyone nodded. Some of them climbed out of bed and headed outside. They clearly still wanted to talk for a while longer, and going out would ensure they didn’t disturb those who wanted to sleep.
The Peach Blossom Base’s only rule for them was that they were not allowed to disembark. On the ship itself, aside from a few critical compartments they were forbidden to enter, there were no other restrictions.
They were free to go to the pantry, the main hall, or even the deck to chat.
Even after they went outside, they kept their voices low as they talked.
At eleven o’clock that night, Ren Yuanyang and his men finally arrived near the Banyan Forest. Qin Haonan’s team, of course, hadn’t returned with them. They had to remain behind to keep an eye on the Dawn Base—or as it should be called now, the Xi’an Base’s branch.
The supply ship’s searchlight immediately fell upon Ren Yuanyang’s speedboat. The light on the speedboat flashed the prearranged signal, and the searchlight moved away.
As Ren Yuanyang’s group neared the supply ship, a speedboat immediately headed out to meet them.
"Leader, you’re back!" Si Youqin said, her eyes widening in pleasant surprise as she saw the six extra speedboats.
Ren Yuanyang nodded slightly. "Mm. Park the damaged speedboats off to the side for now. The others can be put into service immediately. Take the prisoners aboard the supply ship and have Yu Ren watch over them all."
"Yes, sir!" Si Youqin replied.
Ren Yuanyang, meanwhile, took one of the speedboats and headed into the Banyan Forest.
Si Youqin led a patrol team and moved James and all his men to the compartment used for holding Evolver prisoners.
James had already regained consciousness by this point, though his head was still spinning.
As he was being escorted onto the supply ship, he froze, completely stunned.
