Seeing this, Long Zhan immediately spoke up, "We’ve already given the herbal soup to a few of the more seriously ill patients and are observing their condition!"
"If you trust me, you can give this herbal soup to all the patients," Ren Yuanyang said with a smile.
"It’s not that I don’t trust you, I just need to conserve the medicine!" Long Zhan quickly explained.
Ren Yuanyang was taken aback for a moment, then shook his head and said, "These herbs are being produced continuously. Although supplies are a bit tight for now, there won’t be a shortage later on. You can use them freely!"
"Captain Long transferred two-thirds of the herbs you sent over to us, keeping only one-third for his base. That’s why he’s being so frugal; he’s worried there won’t be any more medicine to back him up," Wang Jun also chimed in to explain.
Ren Yuanyang was taken aback again. He hadn’t expected Long Zhan to send most of the herbs to the Aircraft Carrier Base!
"I understand. Captain Long, what a selfless act!" Ren Yuanyang praised.
Long Zhan immediately waved his hand dismissively. "The Aircraft Carrier Base has far more people. They need those medicines more than we do!"
Ren Yuanyang nodded slightly. "Right. You don’t need to be so frugal. Our base is still producing them continuously, and we have an emergency supply in reserve. If Dawn Base needs more, we can send it over anytime."
"In that case, I’ll go all out!" Long Zhan’s eyes lit up as he replied with a hearty laugh.
"Go all out!" Ren Yuanyang replied. "And keep us updated in the group chat on how the patients at Dawn Base are doing!"
"Got it!" Long Zhan replied.
At that moment, the regional channel was flooded with cries of despair.
"I’m done for. I have a fever and I can’t stop coughing. Does this mean I’m infected?"
"With symptoms that obvious, you’ve definitely got it. But don’t worry too much. Everyone’s health has improved lately, so you should be able to tough it out. Eat some good food and build up your strength."
"The problem is, food is also scarce. I can’t even get enough to eat. Build up my strength, my ass!"
"I’ve got it too. I feel like absolute hell. I can’t sleep, and it doesn’t matter if I’m standing, sitting, or lying down—nothing is comfortable! I think I’m going to die!"
"You need to drink lots of water in this situation!"
"Damn it, I don’t have any clean water! The rainwater is toxic, so what am I supposed to do?"
"This is why you have to join a big base! It’s too hard to survive on your own!"
"Yeah, but you have to be with good leaders. Not every base’s leadership is willing to give clean water to ordinary survivors!"
"From the looks of it, the Aircraft Carrier Base offering free clean water must be the only one."
"That’s right. Relative freedom and unlimited free clean water... I bet only the Aircraft Carrier Base offers that!"
"If I head to the Aircraft Carrier Base now, is it too late?"
"That depends on whether your body can hold out. According to the announcement from the Aircraft Carrier Base, everyone will get infected. Those who aren’t showing symptoms yet are probably in the incubation period, or maybe their immune systems already fought off the virus."
"Whether you can hold out or not, you need to join a large base now. Individuals and small settlements are going to have a hard time surviving!"
"There’s also Dawn Base now!"
"That’s right! Dawn Base was taken by the Aircraft Carrier Base, and I’m pretty close to it! Heading out now!"
Under the double threat of the toxins and the virus, survivors near Dawn Base all began rushing toward it.
At Dawn Base, a medical officer rushed to Long Zhan’s office and knocked on the door.
"Come in!" Long Zhan’s voice called from within.
The medical officer pushed the door open and reported excitedly, "Captain, the critically ill patients who took the herbal soup have shown significant improvement. That soup really works!"
"Good. Have the other patients all taken it?" Long Zhan asked.
"Yes, they’ve all had their dose!"
Long Zhan nodded slightly. "Continue to monitor their condition."
"Yes, sir!"
The medical officer turned and left.
Long Zhan immediately shared the news with Wang Jun.
"Old Wang, the herbal soup from Peach Blossom Base is incredibly effective. The critically ill patients at Dawn Base are already starting to recover!"
Seeing the message, Wang Jun remarked, "Peach Blossom Base is truly full of surprises."
"So Chinese medicine is really this powerful!" Long Zhan remarked with similar sentiment.
Wang Jun shook his head slightly. "I’m afraid it’s not all thanks to the medicinal formula. Perhaps what’s even more potent is Taoyuan Yang’s ability!"
Long Zhan paused. "You mean the herbs themselves have been enhanced?"
Wang Jun nodded. "We’ve been trading with Peach Blossom Base long enough to be almost certain that their base can cause plants to evolve. These herbs must be the evolved versions."
"No wonder the effects are so potent," Long Zhan nodded.
"How much longer until those two speedboats from Dawn Base arrive?" Wang Jun seemed impatient.
"Probably another ten hours or so. The Aircraft Carrier Base and Dawn Base are too far apart. Is there any way for us to move closer to each other?" Long Zhan asked with a slight frown.
Wang Jun thought for a moment before shaking his head. "We should still hold our position here by the World’s Roof. Once the floodwaters recede, the World’s Roof will be critical strategic ground."
"But what if the floodwaters never recede?" Long Zhan pressed.
Wang Jun froze for a second, then said with a resigned sigh, "Let’s just hold our position for now. After all, no one knows what the future holds. We’re on the edge of the World’s Roof right now. See if you can move west a little, but you’ll have to consider your fuel supply, of course."
Long Zhan nodded. "Alright, I’ll discuss it with Peach Blossom Base."
