"Of course. That’s why you should consider entrusting the animals to us," Ren Yuanyang replied with a smile.
He had readily admitted that the pork was from the piglets at the Aircraft Carrier Base to showcase the power of Peach Blossom Base’s animal husbandry technology and lay the groundwork for future animal trades!
"That’s definitely worth considering!" Ji Yizhi nodded in agreement.
"How many wild animals does the Aircraft Carrier Base have right now?" Ren Yuanyang asked curiously.
Ji Yizhi sighed. "Only a few. Space is limited, and we didn’t have time to rescue all of them!"
Ren Yuanyang understood. Wild animals were difficult to control, and when the flood came, saving people was obviously the priority. It was impressive they had managed to rescue any animals at all.
Seeing that Ji Yizhi had talked until his mouth was dry but still hadn’t taken a drink of water, Ren Yuanyang understood that the pressure on the Aircraft Carrier Base’s water supply must be immense. He decided to change the subject. "Let me introduce you to our base’s Dripping Lotus!"
"I’d be delighted!" Ji Yizhi’s eyes immediately lit up.
Lu Jiamei brought over a Dripping Lotus plant. She filled a bucket halfway with rainwater from outside, then placed the Dripping Lotus inside it.
The tip of the Dripping Lotus’s leaf immediately began to drip water—or more accurately, it was a steady stream!
Ren Yuanyang picked up a cup, caught half a cupful from the leaf tip, and drank it all in one go!
"Dare to try a cup?" Ren Yuanyang said with a smile, looking at the stunned Ji Yizhi.
Ji Yizhi immediately snapped out of it and replied, "Why wouldn’t I?"
A nearby soldier moved to stop him but was halted by a single look from Ji Yizhi.
Ji Yizhi also picked up a cup, caught half a cupful from the tip of the Dripping Lotus leaf, and drank it.
He wasn’t sure if it was because he was thirsty or due to the Dripping Lotus’s purification, but the water tasted exceptionally sweet!
Ji Yizhi looked at the Dripping Lotus in pleasant surprise. "Can it supply water like this continuously?"
"Yes, though the flow rate might fluctuate slightly," Ren Yuanyang replied with a small nod.
Ji Yizhi was stunned. Today was a real eye-opener; he had never seen a plant produce water at such a rate!
"Your base is truly incredible!" Ji Yizhi couldn’t help but exclaim.
Although the quality of the water purified by the Dripping Lotus hadn’t been tested yet, he was already convinced there was nothing wrong with it.
Ren Yuanyang had drunk it himself, so it had to be safe!
"We just got lucky and developed this water-purifying Dripping Lotus!" Ren Yuanyang said with rare modesty. He then took out a packet of dizzy fish grass seeds and continued, "These are dizzy fish grass seeds. Once you’ve grown them into plants, you can plant them directly in the water!"
"Directly in the water?" Ji Yizhi was completely stunned. "Won’t they fall over or the roots rot if you plant them in water?"
"They won’t. You just have to make sure they don’t float away!" Ren Yuanyang replied with a smile.
Although he found it hard to believe, Ren Yuanyang’s confident words compelled him to accept it.
There was absolutely no reason for Ren Yuanyang to deceive him about this!
"Understood. I’ll make sure the people at the Ministry of Agriculture keep a close eye on these dizzy fish grass plants!" Ji Yizhi responded.
"I also prepared some spider plants for you. They’re quite effective at purifying the air!" Ren Yuanyang added.
"Okay, thank you!" Ji Yizhi was still reeling from the shock of the Dripping Lotus and the dizzy fish grass, his reply purely reflexive.
The two continued to chat as they ate for a while. Once the transaction was complete, Ren Yuanyang immediately stood up and said, "The pressure on the Aircraft Carrier Base’s water supply is considerable, so I won’t delay your return. We can get together again when we have time!"
Ji Yizhi nodded. "Alright. Thank you again for this. Otherwise, our base would have descended into chaos."
"Don’t mention it. You should hurry back!" Ren Yuanyang returned to his speedboat and waved at them.
Ji Yizhi said no more, waved back, and ordered his team to return to their base.
Just then, Qin Haonan jumped onto Boat One. "Chief, it’s a good thing we managed to grab an extra speedboat. Otherwise, fitting all those seeds onto just three boats would have been a tight squeeze!"
"Distribute them evenly. We’re heading back, too," Ren Yuanyang said with a slight nod.
It was now nine o’clock at night.
Twenty-four hours had passed since the toxin was discovered at the Aircraft Carrier Base, and the ordinary survivors at Dawn Base had run out of water.
Some survivors, unbearably thirsty, went out to drink the rainwater. They returned only to suffer from severe diarrhea, which led to even worse dehydration.
Ordinary survivors had begun to die!
Seeing their companions die, a portion of the survivors finally agreed to go to the Xi’an Base.
They knew that going to the Xi’an Base most likely meant becoming test subjects for the Evolution Potion—another path to death—but at least it offered a sliver of hope!
Staying at the Dawn Base, they could see no hope at all!
"Damn it, even if I’m going to die, I’m going to die with a belly full of water first!"
"That’s right, I’m going to the Xi’an Base!"
"Me too! As long as they give me water, I’ll do whatever they want!"
In the captain’s office, an aide was reporting to Jing Shu.
"Captain, some of the survivors have chosen to go to the Xi’an Base. Can we proceed with the trade now?"
Jing Shu’s brow was tightly furrowed. Although he was deeply unwilling, he had to sacrifice some to acquire water resources and save the others!
He let out a long breath, then nodded. "I’ll contact the Xi’an Base first. You go and select two hundred people."
"Yes, sir!" The aide turned and walked out.
Jing Shu mulled it over for a moment before sending a message to Bao Mu: "Captain Bao Mu, we have a group of people here willing to go to the Xi’an Base. How much purified water can you provide us?"
