"I can’t get up, so I can’t make you anything to eat," Chen Jingxian said drowsily.
Lin Jiang patted Chen Jingxian’s soft belly.
"Looks like you need to work out harder and build up your stamina."
"I have been working out, and I haven’t been slacking off lately, but it doesn’t seem to be doing much."
"Then I guess I’ll have to be the one to train you."
"You devil."
Lin Jiang got out of bed and dressed. "You can sleep in. I’m leaving now."
"Mmm."
After leaving Chen Jingxian’s place, he drove to Shen Qingqiu’s.
Li Xiaoping was going home today, and Lin Jiang was going to drive her back.
Although he could have had someone else take her, he decided to do it himself.
First, he didn’t have much going on today and genuinely had the time.
Second, he spent too little time with her normally and wanted to be with her as much as possible.
When he arrived at Shen Qingqiu’s home, Lin Jiang noticed that the two of them seemed to be getting along much more harmoniously. They were no longer as reserved as before and were acting much more naturally.
"Auntie, why don’t you stay a few more days? I don’t have many classes lately, and I’ll be free to take you around once they’re finished."
"You all have work to do. Don’t waste your time on me."
Li Xiaoping took Shen Qingqiu’s hand. "Chinese New Year is in just over a month. You have to come celebrate with us at my place then. If you don’t, this auntie will be upset."
"Okay..."
Shen Qingqiu nodded lightly. At this point, she had no reason to refuse.
"I’ll be going now," Li Xiaoping said, looking at Lin Jiang.
"If you’re busy, don’t worry about driving me. The train is convenient, too. I’ll just have your uncle pick me up from the station."
"If he had that kind of time, he’d be off playing mahjong. When would he have the energy to pick you up?"
Lin Jiang said with a smile, "It’s better if I take you."
"Alright, then."
Li Xiaoping didn’t stand on ceremony with her own son.
Just then, Shen Qingqiu spoke up. "I don’t have anything to do today, either. I’ll go with you."
"Oh, don’t trouble yourself. It’s a few hours round trip. You’d be spending the whole day on me."
She could order her own son around as she pleased, but she couldn’t be so casual with Shen Qingqiu.
"It’s mainly because I’ll be bored at home. Plus, I can take this opportunity to get to know the way to your house. Isn’t that great?"
Hearing her offer to "get to know the way," Li Xiaoping couldn’t stop grinning.
"You’re right, you really should get to know the way. Let’s all go together."
Lin Jiang stood by, taking it all in.
’Even though Shen Qingqiu is usually cool and distant, she sure knows how to make an elder happy.’
As they were about to leave, Shen Qingqiu brought out four gift boxes from her room.
There was sea cucumber, cosmetics, and two boxes of some unknown health supplements.
"Why did you buy all this? I don’t need anything."
"It’s just a small token of my appreciation. I’ve already bought them, so please don’t refuse, Auntie."
"Alright, I’ll take them for now. But when I visit again, you mustn’t buy anything else."
"Okay."
After quickly getting ready, the three of them got in the car.
Shen Qingqiu and Li Xiaoping sat in the back, with Lin Jiang having practically become their chauffeur.
During the drive, Lin Jiang noticed that Shen Qingqiu seemed to have become more talkative.
’For a highly-educated woman with a Ph.D. like her, she was surprisingly eloquent when it came to gossiping about everyday matters.’
Passing by Berkeley, he could see there was still a line of people at the entrance, all orderly and well-behaved.
Nowadays, Berkeley’s online store was also up and running.
Many items could be purchased online, but the fact that there were still so many people at the physical store left Lin Jiang very satisfied.
Even if the profit margin on each product wasn’t as high as one might think, as long as the sales volume was large enough, the profits would still be quite substantial.
After driving a bit further, Lin Jiang pulled up to the entrance of Huipin City. He deliberately slowed down and glanced at the door. There were indeed some people going in and out, but not as many as he had expected.
It seemed that after the initial wave of popularity passed, it had once again entered a phase of slow decline.
He wondered what method Han Guangqi would use to deal with this.
After a quick look, Lin Jiang was about to drive on, but Shen Qingqiu stopped him.
"Don’t drive off just yet. I want to show you something."
"What is it?"
From the back seat, Shen Qingqiu handed him her phone.
It showed her chat history with Sun Shengyao, which included several videos.
Lin Jiang tapped on them and saw that they were all exposés.
The subject of the exposés was Huipin City. There were four videos in total.
Lin Jiang was puzzled as he watched.
"Where did all this come from?"
"Shengyao said Wenqi recorded them."
"She’s the one who did this?"
"Apparently, her supervisor was targeting her and deliberately transferred her to a dirty, exhausting department. As it turned out, that gave her access to all this. She got fed up and released everything."
"Is her boss an idiot? They have someone with both a bachelor’s and a master’s from a top 985 university working for them. Not only do they not treat her like a treasure, but they pull this kind of crap?"
"A lot of entrepreneurs these days actually have a slave-driver mentality. They want to establish their own authority, and they all share the same thought: ’If you won’t do this job, there are plenty of others who will.’"
"I agree with you on that."
"That’s why calling them ’capitalists’ is sometimes not quite accurate."
"The post-2000s generation isn’t to be trifled with. If you piss them off, they’ll really mess you up."
"If it were Shengyao, he might not have done something like this. But Wenqi is different. She’s not the type to take a loss lying down."
"After working there for this long, she probably knows what kind of company Huipin is now. It’s enough material for her thesis. Have her come back, just in case the people at Huipin try to retaliate."
"They probably wouldn’t dare. Wenqi’s father is pretty powerful."
"Isn’t her dad a public official?"
