"Stop dawdling and get in."
Zhou Jingliang slid into the driver’s seat, stroking the steering wheel admiringly.
"A Maybach is really in a class of its own. This interior, this texture... no ordinary car can compare."
"Quit messing around and drive. I haven’t even had lunch yet."
"No way. I wouldn’t dare drive such a nice car. Besides, I don’t know the roads in Zhonghai. I’d hate to scratch it."
Zhou Jingliang got out of the car. "I should sit with my girlfriend. I’ll leave the driving to you, driver."
"The way you phrased that... you’re so fucking crude."
With Zhang Jingjing there, Lin Jiang didn’t tease him any further. He got into the driver’s seat, Qin Youyou returned to the passenger seat, and they drove to the Crab Mansion.
"Be honest with me, are you still running the noodle shop?"
"What else would I be doing if not running the noodle shop?"
"What kind of noodle shop lets you afford a Maybach? I’m telling you, you can’t be doing anything illegal."
Sitting in the back, Zhang Jingjing also glanced at Lin Jiang.
She had often heard Zhou Jingliang talk about Lin Jiang and their childhood, and she knew they had been on a similar financial level.
But now, he had shown up in a Maybach. Their financial situations were on completely different levels. It was hard to imagine they could still be friends.
"Don’t you worry about it. The money is all legit."
"That’s a relief."
Zhou Jingliang looked left and right, then patted the seat beneath him.
"Now I’ll have some serious bragging rights. My bro drives a Maybach."
Lin Jiang drove to the Crab Mansion and led the two of them to a private room.
"Don’t be shy with me. Order whatever you want, the more expensive the better. Go all out today."
"You’re driving a Maybach. You think I’m gonna be shy?"
Zhou Jingliang took the menu and brought it over to Zhang Jingjing.
"Babe, what do you want to eat? Just order whatever you like. We’re all friends here."
’That bastard actually has a girlfriend now, and he’s even capable of saying such sappy things. What the hell happened to him over the years?’
"Just order a few things. Let’s not be wasteful."
"I know Lin Jiang. He’ll be upset if you try to save him money."
Zhou Jingliang took the menu, but he didn’t pick the most expensive items, just some suitable dishes.
In the end, it was Lin Jiang who ordered three Boston lobsters.
Having not seen each other for over two months, drinking was naturally unavoidable.
Within twenty-some minutes, they had each drunk more than three bottles.
Qin Youyou was well-behaved and didn’t say much. Her main role was to pour drinks for Lin Jiang and run errands, making Zhou Jingliang incredibly envious.
Seeing that Qin Youyou barely ate, instead constantly putting food on Lin Jiang’s plate and pouring his drinks, Zhou Jingliang felt an itch of envy.
"Babe, can you peel a shrimp for me?"
"Brother Jiang drives a Maybach. Can you even compare yourself to him? Peel it yourself."
As if realizing she had gone a bit too far, Zhang Jingjing tried to backtrack:
"I just got my nails done, so it’s not convenient to peel shrimp. You should just do it yourself."
"I was just saying. How could I let you peel it? Be careful with your nails. I’ll do it for you."
Lin Jiang curled his lip. ’This guy is a total simp.’
"I forgot to ask, what kind of job did you find now that you’re back?" Lin Jiang changed the subject.
"It’s a food and beverage company. She applied for a finance position. After she explained her situation to the company, they wanted to hire her, and it just so happened that their procurement department was short one person, so I naturally got the spot."
"Being able to work as an accountant at such a young age... she’s really got something."
Lin Jiang remembered that Chen Jingxian was still just a cashier at her age.
"Actually, it’s not an accountant, it’s a cashier."
"That’s still good. He always gets those two jobs mixed up."
Lin Jiang agreed politely, but he found it a little strange.
Experienced accountants are in high demand, but cashiers are a dime a dozen. Even if her resume was a good fit, it was unusual for a company to agree to her bringing someone else along.
’Maybe she has relatives or older schoolmates working at the company who pulled a few strings for her. That kind of thing is pretty normal.’
Besides talking about themselves, Zhou Jingliang also asked about Lin Jiang’s situation.
Lin Jiang just said he had adjusted his recipe, the noodle shop business took off, and he made a lot of money, glossing over the details.
"Have you sorted out a place to live?" Lin Jiang asked, holding his phone as they were finishing up the meal.
"The company has benefits. They’ve already rented a place for us. It’s just a bit small, a twenty-something-square-meter apartment, but it’s enough to get by."
"That’s actually pretty good. You’ll save a lot of money," Lin Jiang said. "Why don’t you two stay at my place tonight?"
"We don’t want to trouble you. We already have the keys, so you can just drop us off there later."
Zhou Jingliang had a good sense of propriety.
If it were just him, he would definitely have stayed at Lin Jiang’s place.
But he had brought his girlfriend, they had luggage with them, and they needed to get settled tonight. Besides, Lin Jiang had his own girlfriend, so they couldn’t impose on him.
"Alright then. Once you’re all settled in, come over to my house for a meal. You have to at least see the place."
"Don’t worry, you won’t be able to get rid of me, haha..."
After the meal, Qin Youyou drove and took the couple home.
"What are your plans for tomorrow?"
"We have to report to the company first and get the onboarding paperwork done. As for when we start working, that’s up to HR."
"What time do you have to be there tomorrow?"
"We just have to arrive by ten."
"I’ll come pick you two up tomorrow."
"You’re a busy man now. Don’t waste your time on me. Take care of your business first. I’ll call you once I’m all settled."
"It won’t take long. Just be up early tomorrow and wait for my call."
