The next morning, a game notification appeared the moment he opened his eyes.
He Siyao was already up and preparing breakfast, just like always.

’Looks like Wang Xianping has been dealt with.’
His phone showed several missed calls, all from Lin Qiangwei.
There were messages from her, too.
Lin Qiangwei: "Call me back when you wake up."
Besides Lin Qiangwei’s messages, there was also one from Qin Youyou.
Last night, she had invited him to the gym. That, combined with Lin Qiangwei’s "buyer’s review" photo, had prompted him to call He Siyao over for a little "after-sales service."
Qin Youyou: "Brother Jiang, my thighs are so sore."

’Qin Youyou’s pale legs were definitely a sight to behold.’
Lin Jiang: "Use that medicated oil I gave you. It works wonders."
Qin Youyou: "Okay."
Lin Jiang didn’t reply again. He got out of bed and went to the bathroom to wash up.
While he was washing up, Lin Qiangwei called.
"What is it?" Lin Jiang said.
"Did you put Wang Xianping and his son away?"
"Yeah."
A long silence followed on the other end of the line.
"I knew my judgment was sound. You’re just full of surprises, all the time. Mwah..."
"It’s too early for this. Settle down."
"Oh, but I just can’t help it," Lin Qiangwei said flirtatiously. "Are you coming to the mall today? I want to come see you."
"Not sure yet. We’ll see."
"Let me know if you do."
"Alright."
After hanging up, he finished washing up, had breakfast with He Siyao, and the two of them headed to the office.
When they arrived at the office, Yang Tao and two others were already waiting for him. Pan Shengli was there as well.
In his quest to secure the Berkeley project, Pan Shengli was personally handling all matters concerning Lin Jiang, never passing up an opportunity to meet with him.
"Master Lin, Wang Xianping is behind bars and won’t be getting out anytime soon. His wife is set to become the company’s legal representative, but Li Dan is just a housewife. She doesn’t know the first thing about running a business. Plus, their relationship wasn’t great, so she might just sell off the company’s shops in a bundle. I think you could..."
Yang Tao and the other two men looked at Lin Jiang, also thinking this was an excellent opportunity.
"Brother Jiang, I agree this is worth considering."
"If a suitable opportunity comes up, of course we can take it. But there’s no need to force the issue. I’m not particularly interested in his assets anyway."
Lin Jiang’s words made Pan Shengli feel ashamed.
Last night, after dealing with the Wang Xianping situation, Pan Shengli hadn’t gone home to rest. Instead, he had taken Yang Tao and the other two men out for drinks.
Over drinks, Pan Shengli had learned that Lin Jiang had no interest in such petty, underhanded dealings.
He just wanted to run his own business properly.
Both Lin Jiansheng and Wang Xianping had jumped to conclusions, treating Lin Jiang as a rival and trying to use dishonest means to either get his noodle shop’s recipe or buy a stake in the business.
"I’m planning to open a barbecue restaurant, something over 500 square meters. You guys go find a suitable location."
"Got it."
After finishing with them, Lin Jiang gathered the rest of the company’s staff for a short meeting to sort out tasks for the near future.
"Hm? Where’s Sister Xian? I’ve been here a while and haven’t seen her."
"Sister Xian had something to take care of, so she’s not in the office..."
Lin Jiang’s expression shifted. He looked at He Siyao and gave her rear a firm squeeze.
"Are you sure?"
"Master... gently..."
He Siyao whined playfully, "Sister Xian told me not to tell you."
"What is it? What is she doing?"
"Sister Xian went to have surgery. She told us not to tell you."
"Surgery? What kind of surgery?"
"For gallstones. She’s having her gallbladder removed," He Siyao said, looking wronged.
"I went to see her yesterday. Sister Xian is doing okay. She specifically told me not to tell you."
When Chen Jingxian had returned from her trip home a while back, her cholecystitis had flared up.
He had assumed that, like Xu Lin, she would be fine as long as she was careful with her diet. He never thought it would reach the point of requiring surgery.
Though not as common as an appendectomy, it wasn’t rare for people to have their gallbladders removed.
After a few days of post-op rest, patients were usually back to normal with no lasting effects.
"When did she have the surgery?"
"The day before yesterday."
"The day before yesterday..." Lin Jiang muttered. "Then she should be discharged today, right?"
"Yeah, that’s what Sister Xian said."
"Which hospital?"
"Jiaoda Affiliated Hospital."
"Alright, go on back to your work."
He Siyao left. Lin Jiang didn’t stay at the office much longer either. He went back to his car and called Chen Jingxian.
"Hello?"
Although Chen Jingxian was trying to sound composed, her voice was still a bit weak.
"About to be discharged, are you?"
"You found out?"
"Yaoyao told me. So, have you been discharged yet?" Lin Jiang asked, getting straight to the point.
"We’re just waiting for the doctor. Once he gets here, we can go."
"Alright, I’m heading over now."
With that settled, Lin Jiang hung up and drove to Jiaoda Affiliated Hospital.
He stopped at the entrance to buy a bouquet of flowers, figuring it would be a good way to raise his Affinity score.
Following Chen Jingxian’s directions, Lin Jiang made his way to the inpatient ward of the Hepatobiliary Surgery department.
There were four beds in the room. One was empty, and Chen Jingxian was in one of the middle ones.
She had already changed back into her own clothes. Aside from her pale complexion, she looked relatively normal.
Chen Jianguo and Wang Minxia were also by her side.
The three of them seemed to have nothing much to do, just waiting idly for the doctor to arrive.
"Oh, Xiaojiang’s here."
Seeing Lin Jiang standing in the doorway, Wang Minxia waved him over, welcoming him inside.
Chen Jingxian put down her phone as well, a pleased expression appearing on her face.
