"Let’s just forget it. My brother is taking us out, so we don’t need you."
"Your brother already has a job. He’s not in our circle, so you won’t have fun together. I’ll just be your dedicated driver and take you two out."
Faced with such a persistent Wang Xuyang, Li Yueting was at a loss for words. She whispered in Xu Yingjun’s ear:
"He’s your simp. I can’t handle him, so you deal with him."
"We can go out by ourselves. We don’t need you to come along."
As she spoke, Xu Yingjun stood on her tiptoes and pointed to a van not far away.
"Tongtong, is that your brother’s car? It looks like it has a Zhonghai license plate."
"That must be it. Let’s go." Li Yueting grabbed Xu Yingjun and started walking.
"Tongtong, your brother drives a van?" Wang Xuyang said with disgust.
"What’s wrong with that? Is there a problem with driving a van?" Li Yueting shot back.
"I didn’t say there was a problem, but it’s not right to have Yingjun ride in a van."
As he spoke, Wang Xuyang pressed his car key, and the lights of a BMW 5 Series flashed.
"Yingjun, come ride in my car. I even bought you a special seat cushion. From now on, you’re the only one who will ever sit in my passenger seat."
"Ewww..."
Xu Yingjun got goosebumps just listening to him.
"No, thank you. I’m not worthy. You should go find some other girl."
"No, I’m not interested in any other girls. I only like you," Wang Xuyang said sincerely.
"Then you should wait a bit. The first-year girls will be here in September. You can take your pick then."
Wang Xuyang: ...
With that, Xu Yingjun took Li Yueting’s hand and hurried toward the van in front of them.
"You’re so slow! We’ve been waiting for you for a while."
Li Yueting, ever so casually, pulled open the van’s door and tossed her bag inside.
"Uh... Miss, what are you doing?"
When the driver in the front seat turned around, both Li Yueting and Xu Yingjun froze.
They saw it was a middle-aged man, not Lin Jiang at all.
"Uh... sorry, sir. My brother drives the same kind of van as you, so we got the wrong one. We’re so sorry."
Embarrassed, she grabbed her bag, and the two of them backed away.
Just then, Lin Jiang drove up and stopped in front of Li Yueting.
"Did all that studying make you stupid? Can’t you even look who the driver is before getting in?"
She looked at Lin Jiang in the car, then looked at the car itself.
"Bro, whose car is this? It’s so badass!"
Li Yueting leaned against the driver’s side window. "And it’s a Mercedes-Benz."
"It’s mine. Just bought it."
Lin Jiang got out of the car, took their bags, and put them in the trunk.
"Thank you, Brother Jiang. Sorry to trouble you," Xu Yingjun said softly.
"It’s nothing, no trouble at all. Get in."
Li Yueting opened the back door, and she and Xu Yingjun got in.
"Tongtong, this is your brother’s car?"
Staring at Lin Jiang’s Maybach, Wang Xuyang was in disbelief.
’Didn’t they say he drove a van?’
"That’s right. So our dear Yingjun won’t be riding in your car. Bye-bye."
Starting the car, Lin Jiang didn’t say much and drove off with the two of them, leaving Wang Xuyang behind.
The driver of the van watched the Maybach disappear into the distance, lost in thought.
’A Maybach and a van... Do they even look alike?’
Lin Jiang drove off, taking the two of them with him.
"Bro, when did you buy this car? Why is the logo on the steering wheel a Mercedes-Benz, but the one on the front isn’t?"
"I bought it a while ago. It’s a brand under Mercedes-Benz."
Li Yueting looked left and right. "This car is amazing. You can tell from the interior it wasn’t cheap. I didn’t even see you post about it on your social media feed."
"It’s just a car. What’s there to post about?"
"Brother Jiang, you’re so low-key. If someone else bought such a nice car, they would definitely post it on social media to show off," Xu Yingjun said.
"That’s true. My brother’s greatest strength is being low-key," Li Yueting said.
"Unlike me. I’m good for nothing besides being pretty."
Lin Jiang passed back the snacks from the passenger seat.
"Your Sister Xian bought these. Go ahead and eat."
"I don’t feel like eating right now."
"Then find something else to shut your mouth with."
"You just wait. I’m going to tell my aunt that you blew your money on a car. We’ll just see if she chews you out or not."
Li Yueting was a woman of action. She immediately took out her phone and sent a message to Li Xiaoping.
Not long after, Lin Jiang’s phone rang. Since he was driving, Lin Jiang put it on speaker.
"Mom."
"I heard from Tongtong that you bought a car?"
"I bought it a while ago. I just didn’t tell you."
"Why don’t you know how to save money? A car is a depreciating asset, and you still have a mortgage on your house..."
"Not only did I buy a car, but I also bought you two gold bars."
"How many grams?"
"100 grams for the two of them combined."
"Well, buying a car is fine too. It makes getting around more convenient. If you don’t even have a car, girls won’t want to date you."
"That’s what I was thinking."
"Drive safely on the road."
"Alrighty."
Hehehe...
After Lin Jiang hung up, Xu Yingjun couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
"You money-grubbing merchants only know how to buy people off with cash."
Li Yueting’s hands snaked toward Xu Yingjun’s waist.
"And you! Whose side are you on? Stop laughing."
"I think Auntie is right. If you can afford it, there’s nothing wrong with buying a car."
"You’re choosing a guy over your friend! The little boat of our friendship has capsized just like that."
"Oh, come on, it’s not like that. It’s just a car, it’s not a big deal."
"Why is there a car that keeps following us?" Lin Jiang muttered.
The two girls looked back. "It’s a BMW. It couldn’t be Wang Xuyang’s car, could it?"
"Who’s Wang Xuyang?"
"Yingjun’s suitor. He said he wanted to drive us home and hang out with us today."
"He drives a BMW, so he must be well-off. If you’re interested, you should hang out with him," Lin Jiang said casually.
