"Huh? 1688 per person!"
The two were startled. Bi Xiaoyun gave an awkward laugh. "Wow, I didn’t realize it was so expensive."
Li Jianshu and Huang Chunying exchanged a look, also stunned by the price.
They had also assumed 1688 was the price for the whole table, which seemed reasonable. They never imagined it was per person!
As they spoke, the appetizers were served.
Everything was served on exquisite small plates. Though the portions were small, they were perfect for showing off.
A moment ago, Bi Xiaoyun had been pouting, but the second the food arrived, her face lit up, and she immediately started taking pictures with her phone.
Then, when the drunken crab, ancient-style Yangshan lamb stew, and hanging-oven-roasted shrimp were brought out, everyone gasped in admiration again and again.
"Xiaojiang, this is just too expensive. We’re all family; we could have just eaten something simple," Huang Chunying said.
"I have trouble making decisions, so I had no idea what to pick and just chose this place randomly," Lin Jiang said with a chuckle.
"Oh, you."
Although she had some doubts about their relationship, Huang Chunying couldn’t stop smiling.
Putting everything else aside, his willingness to spend so much money was a statement in itself.
The smiles on Huang Chunli’s and Bi Xiaoyun’s faces, who had been excitedly taking pictures just moments before, instantly vanished.
In front of Lin Jiang, her own son-in-law and husband were completely outshined.
They wanted Li Zhiyi to do well, but they didn’t want her to do *better* than them.
’She went to a regular university for her undergrad, couldn’t find a good job, and ended up in sales.’
’Meanwhile, I went to a 211 university, passed the exam to become a civil servant after graduation, and married a husband with great potential. I thought I’d leave Li Zhiyi in the dust, completely in a league of my own. But I never expected her to find such a rich boyfriend.’
Bi Xiaoyun was about to see red.
"Zhiyi, are you still working at the 4S dealership?" Huang Chunli asked with a smile.
"Mhm."
"A sales job really isn’t good, you know. It doesn’t sound very impressive. Why don’t you try a little harder, like your cousin, and take the civil service exam? A government job is stable and respectable."
"It’s stable, sure, but the pay isn’t great."
Bi Xiaoyun didn’t like hearing that and said nonchalantly:
"My job might pay a little less, but the main thing is there’s no pressure, and my schedule is flexible. You can’t say that about sales. You have performance pressure every month. It’s so exhausting. You’d really be better off becoming a civil servant."
"When my quota is short, my boyfriend helps me make it up," Li Zhiyi said.
"Helps you make up your quota? What do you mean?" Bi Xiaoyun said while eating.
"Does he promote it for you online? Pull in customers?"
"He buys cars from our dealership. Last month, he bought this Maybach for over three million, and this month, he bought two AMG-version GLEs, which also cost over three million."
"Huh? He buys cars to help your sales quota?"
’Isn’t that just absurdly extravagant?’
’You’re just a girl from an ordinary family. Why would someone throw that kind of money at you?’
’She must be bragging!’
Lin Jiang chuckled inwardly. He didn’t even have to do anything; Li Zhiyi had already done the flexing for him.
"W-Well, that’s... that’s really nice..."
Bi Xiaoyun was completely shut down, momentarily at a loss for words.
But Huang Chunli jumped in from the side.
"We’re so happy for you, having such an outstanding boyfriend. We always used to hear you talking about saving up to buy a car. Now you don’t have to; you can just ride in your boyfriend’s."
Huang Chunli’s words were barbed, implying that even though her boyfriend was so rich, he hadn’t offered to buy her a car of her own.
"I won’t have to in a few days," Li Zhiyi said slowly while eating.
Bi Xiaoyun’s eyes darted around as if she had found an angle for a rebuttal.
"Why won’t you have to? Is it because he’s too busy with work and doesn’t have time to pick you up anymore?"
Bi Xiaoyun looked at Lin Jiang. "Brother-in-law, that’s not right of you. You’ve only just gotten together, how can you not be doting on her? No matter how busy you are with work, you should still pick up our Zhiyi. Otherwise, she’ll have to take a taxi, and that’s so dangerous."
Seeing the spear pointed at him, Lin Jiang wasn’t flustered.
’No need for me to step in. Li Zhiyi will teach them a lesson.’
"My boyfriend bought two cars this month. One of them is for me, but I had some of the interior customized, so it’ll be delivered in a few days."
"Er..."
Bi Xiaoyun fell silent, completely speechless from the comeback. But Zhang Zhengyang, sitting beside her, couldn’t stay quiet any longer.
"As far as I know, the AMG version of the GLE costs over 1.5 million, right? And that car is incredibly powerful. It’s not really suitable for a woman to drive, is it?"
Li Zhiyi frowned slightly, a small movement that Lin Jiang noticed.
’Time for me to step in.’
"We actually hadn’t planned on buying this model. She was short over three million on her sales quota, so we bought two to make up the numbers. Otherwise, we would have just bought the standard version."
Zhang Zhengyang: ...
’That’s a GLE worth over 1.5 million!’
’Are you really buying them like they’re cabbage?!’
Lin Jiang wasn’t just bragging; he really had bought the AMG versions just to make up the numbers.
"What about the other car? Buying an extra one seems a bit useless, doesn’t it?" Zhang Zhengyang said nonchalantly.
"I gave it to my employee to drive."
It wouldn’t be long before Chen Jingxian was his employee, so there was nothing wrong with saying that.
"What?!"
Zhang Zhengyang and Bi Xiaoyun exclaimed in shock.
"A car worth over 1.5 million for an employee to drive?"
"If I didn’t give it to an employee, I couldn’t give it away to anyone else either. Letting it just sit around collecting dust would be a waste. Think of it as recycling something useless."
"Recycling... something useless..."
’A car worth over 1.5 million, and you call it recycling something useless? Our car only costs a little over 500,000. What does that make it?’
’Scrap metal?’
After being hit with one critical blow after another from Lin Jiang and Li Zhiyi, the trio quieted down considerably until the end of the meal.
"Mom, is there anywhere you want to go? I can take you around for a bit later," Li Zhiyi asked.
"We were in the car for several hours. Let’s not go out today. We’ll just go to your place to rest for a bit. Besides, Xiaojiang is a busy man; we shouldn’t take up any more of his time."
