Without giving Zhang Weidong another chance to speak, Tang Wan hung up the phone.
She let out a helpless sigh, at a loss for words.
When she returned to the room, a smile was back on Tang Wan’s face.
The group chatted a while longer about the movie and the song. Tang Wan matched them drink for drink, and soon, she was drunk but still pushing on.
"That’s about enough. Let’s call it a night."
After settling the bill, the three of them walked out of Crab Mansion. Fang Jie helped the stumbling Tang Wan into the car.
Once in the car, Tang Wan was completely out of it, falling asleep against the window.
Fang Jie called her name several times, but there was no response.
"Now we can’t even get her home."
"Then let’s take her to a hotel," Lin Jiang said from the passenger seat. "Go to the Gulf Hotel."
Fang Jie didn’t know why Lin Jiang chose the Gulf Hotel, but she didn’t ask about such a trivial detail.
It wasn’t far, and there wasn’t much traffic at night, so they arrived in less than twenty minutes.
"You wait in the car. In her state, you probably can’t support her."
"Are you sure you don’t need help?" Fang Jie looked at Lin Jiang with a smile. "Or are you saying that after you take her inside, I can just drive off?"
Lin Jiang caught her hidden meaning.
"It seems today’s lesson didn’t sink in. I should probably teach you a proper lesson on what it means to be obedient."
Fang Jie suddenly squeezed her thighs together as an unspoken sense of anticipation spread through her.
"I didn’t mean anything by it. Why do you have to punish me?"
"You know full well whether you did or not."
With that, Lin Jiang got out of the car, helped the drunk Tang Wan out, and led her into the hotel.
Seeing Lin Jiang enter, Feng Shusong hurried over.
He was on duty tonight and was just about to pack up and go to bed when he unexpectedly ran into Lin Jiang.
"President Lin."
Lin Jiang nodded. "Get me a room."
Feng Shusong instantly understood what Lin Jiang meant and turned to the front desk.
"Prepare the presidential suite."
He helped Tang Wan into the elevator and took her to the presidential suite on the top floor.
"President Lin, we’ll be leaving now. We won’t disturb you."
"I’m not staying here. Find two female employees to come and help her out of her clothes."
Feng Shusong looked at Lin Jiang, his expression baffled.
"President Lin, it’s already come to this, and you’re still leaving?"
"Don’t be so dirty-minded. Am I the kind of person who takes advantage of others?"
Feng Shusong looked at Lin Jiang, his eyes filled with newfound respect.
"President Lin is a man of integrity. Anyone can see you’re a person of great self-discipline, a role model for us all. You’re definitely not the kind of person who would take advantage of someone’s situation."
"Enough with the flattery. Just get some people over here and arrange it."
"Leave it to me."
After getting things arranged, Lin Jiang left and returned to the car.
"How is she? Did she regain consciousness?"
Lin Jiang shook his head. "She’s sleeping even more soundly. If word of this gets out, it’ll cement my reputation as a heartless capitalist."
"That’s just how this industry is. You have to make these actors fear their investors. No matter what, they need to understand the pecking order, so they don’t get arrogant after becoming famous."
"There’s truth in that. You have to knock them down a peg every now and then."
"The entertainment circle is a world of fame and fortune. Doing this is necessary," Fang Jie said.
"But then again, I’ve interacted with Tang Wan many times, and my impression of her is quite good. If I thought she wasn’t right for it, I wouldn’t have suggested you give her this song."
"It seems my decision to put you in charge of this was an absolutely correct one."
"Then I’ll gladly accept President Lin’s praise."
"Drive to your place. I’ll call for a designated driver to get home later," Lin Jiang said.
"Come to my place and rest for a bit first. I’ll make you a cup of sobering tea."
"I didn’t drink that much, it’s not a big deal. I won’t go over."
A flash of disappointment appeared on Fang Jie’s face.
’I didn’t drink tonight precisely for this moment.’
Unfortunately, Lin Jiang didn’t seem to have the same idea.
"Alright then."
Lin Jiang looked at Fang Jie with a playful smile.
"Listening to your tone, why do I get the feeling you’re a little unhappy?"
"Am I? How am I unhappy?"
"Are you sure? Then I really won’t go up. I’ll call for a driver now."
Seeing that Lin Jiang was actually about to call a driver, Fang Jie hurriedly said:
"I just saw that you were drinking and wanted you to come up and sober up."
"Just sobering up is so boring. I can sober up by lying down at home. There’s no need to go to your place."
"You’re just teasing me. Are you trying to bully me?"
"Am I not telling the truth? If it’s just to sober up and rest, it really is the same anywhere. But if you were to invite me up for something else... I might consider it."
"You villain! You’re blatantly bullying me."
Fang Jie’s face burned, and she was already starting to look forward to what they would do that night.
Subconsciously, Fang Jie sped up, quickly driving the car back home.
She grabbed her bag and casually opened the car door to get out.
"Don’t be in such a hurry to leave. You haven’t said what we’re going upstairs to do yet," Lin Jiang deliberately teased Fang Jie.
"You... you already know, yet you’re making me say it..."
"I don’t know. I don’t know anything at all."
"To... to give me a lesson..."
"You should’ve just said so from the start."
The two of them got out of the car. Fang Jie linked her arm with Lin Jiang’s and asked with concern:
"How are you feeling? Do you feel unwell after being in the wind?"
"You should have more faith in my tolerance. I could drink another bottle and be fine."
"I feel like you don’t have any weaknesses. It seems like nothing can stump you."
Fang Jie admired and even worshipped Lin Jiang.
Not only was he exceptionally capable and talented, but he also had no obvious shortcomings. Even in *that* department, he perfectly matched her preferences, holding her completely in his grasp.
’Sometimes, it even feels surreal. How did I ever meet a man like this?’
"I don’t want to be this perfect either, but what can I do? It’s such a burden."
"Oh, you’re so full of yourself."
As they spoke, the two arrived at her doorstep.
It was only a little past eight in the evening; much of the night still belonged to them.
She took out her key and opened the door.
The moment the door opened, a childish voice came from inside the room.
"Mommy!"
Fang Jie froze. Lin Jiang froze too.
’She invited me over, so why is her child still at home?’
Zhang Jiayuan saw Lin Jiang and stood by the door, not daring to move.
Just then, a middle-aged woman walked out of a room, looking at the two of them with a strange expression.
Lin Jiang guessed it must be Fang Jie’s mother.
"Oh, you brought a friend over. Come in, have a seat."
’Under these circumstances, tonight’s "lesson" is definitely canceled.’
Just as Lin Jiang was about to excuse himself, he heard Fang Jie say:
"Mom, why are you guys back?"
’I’ve been divorced for years, and now my own mother catches me bringing a man home at night. She’s definitely going to get the wrong idea. This is social suicide!’
"She said she missed you and wanted to stay with you tonight. I had no choice, so I brought her back."
At this moment, the three adults were all a bit awkward.
Fang Jie’s mother said:
"Now that you’re back, I’ll be heading out. Your dad is still waiting for me at home."
With that, she turned to grab her coat, preparing to leave.
"Mom, it’s so late. Why don’t you just stay here?"
You could tell Fang Jie wasn’t being sincere; it was just a polite, perfunctory offer.
"I still have things to do at home, so I won’t be staying."
After putting on her coat and shoes, Fang Jie’s mother looked at Zhang Jiayuan. "Yuanyuan, come back with Grandma."
"No, I want to sleep with Mommy tonight," Zhang Jiayuan said, hugging Fang Jie’s leg.
"Mommy’s had a long day. Just go with Grandma and let your mom get some rest at home," Fang Jie’s mother coaxed in a soft voice.
"No, I just want to be with Mommy."
Fang Jie was helpless. ’This child can be so difficult.’
"Go stay with Grandma tonight, and I’ll get you a toy tomorrow."
"No, I want to stay with Mom today."
Lin Jiang felt a little helpless.
’Sometimes, the thing that gets in your way isn’t your period, but your kid.’
