Lin Jiang’s expression froze.
He had just been thinking about getting a round in at the office to see what it was like.
But since the renovations weren’t finished and the place was a mess, he’d resisted the urge.
But in this situation...
This was just too much to bear.
"How are we going to ignore the risks?"
"It might come tomorrow. Today’s the last day..."
Heh...
’As I thought!’
’A woman forever ruled by her hormones.’
"Pack your things. I’ll settle the bill, and we’ll go!"
Lin Jiang went to the counter to pay.
Back in the car, Lin Jiang decided not to go anywhere else. Century Triumph was right across the street, and Li Zhiyi had been there before.
Under the circumstances, taking her to a hotel wouldn’t be right.
Driving slowly, Lin Jiang pulled the car back into the underground garage.
After they got out, Li Zhiyi linked her arm through Lin Jiang’s.
"First I saw your company, and now I get to see the house after the renovations. Today’s itinerary is just perfect."
’So, Li Zhiyi was looking forward to this apartment too.’
Suddenly!
Lin Jiang’s face changed!
He felt as if he’d been struck by lightning, goosebumps breaking out all over his skin.
He was horrified to see Qiu Yunong’s A4 parked in the spot right next to them!
’It’s so late, why the hell hasn’t she left!’
’If she catches us, it’s going to be a damn disaster.’
"Honey, what’s wrong?"
"Nothing, I was just checking if the car was locked."
Li Zhiyi couldn’t help but laugh. "You’ve had it for so long and you still don’t know its features? Even if you don’t lock it, it locks automatically once the key is a certain distance away from the car."
"You’re the expert."
Lin Jiang replied casually while secretly pulling out his phone to send Qiu Yunong a message.
He asked if she was still at home. If she was, he needed her to hide somewhere, fast.
But he didn’t receive a reply from Qiu Yunong, even by the time they stepped out of the elevator.
With Li Zhiyi on his arm, Lin Jiang was so nervous his little brother was too scared to even show its head.
He scanned his fingerprint.
The door unlocked.
The living room lights turned on automatically. Lin Jiang glanced down—Qiu Yunong’s shoes were gone!
’I’m in the clear!’
’She must have left.’
To be absolutely sure, Lin Jiang checked the other rooms, even the bathroom. There wasn’t a single trace of her.
Now he was truly in the clear.
"Honey..."
Li Zhiyi followed him into the bathroom and wrapped her arms around his neck.
"Tonight, we... ignore the risks..."
「Huasheng Garden, Building 7, Unit 1, Apartment 1101.」
The sound of a door opening came from the entrance. The old couple, Chen Jianguo and his wife, glanced over before looking away.
Their daughter was home from work.
"Oh, what brings you two back together?"
Seeing Chen Jingxian with Chen Jingjia, Wang Minxia walked over with a smile and got her a pair of slippers.
"Have you eaten yet?"
"We ate out," Chen Jingxian replied.
"Mom, why didn’t you ask me?" Chen Jingjia said.
"You come home every day. What’s there to ask?"
After chiding Chen Jingjia, Wang Minxia went to the kitchen, took out the grapes she’d bought earlier, and added a little flour to the water to wash them more thoroughly.
"Why didn’t you say you were coming?"
"I wasn’t planning on it. She dragged me here."
The old couple looked at Chen Jingjia. "Why did you bring your sister back?"
"Mom, Dad, I’ve been thinking, and I feel like divorcing Lin Jiang was a bit impulsive."
Hm?
The old couple both stopped what they were doing and stared at Chen Jingjia.
"You really think so?"
"I’ve been thinking a lot recently. The fault was really mine. I was impulsive and listened to Xu Lili, and that’s why I did it..."
Chen Jingjia paused. "I want to get back together with Lin Jiang."
"That’s wonderful news!"
The old couple were so happy they slapped their thighs.
"But this is something you have to talk to Lin Jiang about. Admit you were wrong, apologize to him. That boy, Xiaojiang, is soft-hearted. If you’re sincere, he’ll forgive you."
"I already went to him, but he didn’t agree. So tonight I went to find my sister, hoping she would help talk to him, but she won’t go."
The old couple’s attention shifted back to Chen Jingxian.
"Right after they divorced, I tried to persuade Lin Jiang many times, but he firmly refused every time. You should just forget about it."
"There’s no need to be so final about it," Wang Minxia said helplessly. "Maybe if you try persuading him again, it’ll work."
"Lin Jiang didn’t even consider getting back with her when he had no money. Now that he’s rich, do you really think it’s possible?" Chen Jingxian said.
"With Lin Jiang’s current situation, he could easily find an eighteen-year-old. Why would he choose her? Because she’s good at spending money? Because she doesn’t lift a finger? Aunt Li isn’t running a temple; she doesn’t need another little goddess to worship."
Chen Jingxian was usually gentle and soft-spoken, but when it mattered, she didn’t hold back in her criticism of Chen Jingjia.
"Mom, look at my sister! She’s always talking about me like that."
"Is your sister wrong? You wouldn’t even pick up a soy sauce bottle if it fell over. And you’re blaming her for pointing it out?"
"Dad..."
"Your mom’s right. I don’t even know how that boy Xiaojiang put up with you for so many years."
"Can we stop talking about that? I brought you here to help me come up with a plan."
The old couple fell silent.
Although they had many complaints about Chen Jingjia, she was still their daughter, no matter what.
Now that she realized the problem and knew she was wrong, they still had to help her figure something out.
"The problem is, if Lin Jiang doesn’t agree, there’s nothing we can do."
"Can you two go and put in a good word for me?" Chen Jingjia asked.
"Lin Jiang has a good relationship with you both. If you go and talk to him, he’ll definitely listen. At the very least, the tension between us might ease up."
Wang Minxia glanced at Chen Jianguo. "What do you think?"
"What else is there to think? We’ll have to swallow our pride and go."
