Li Yueting’s expression soured.
"That’s it, we’re through! You’ve permanently lost me as a sister."
"But I’ve gained a campus beauty for a sister, haven’t I?"
"Aargh—I’m just going to strangle you!"
The two horsed around at the campus gate for a bit before Li Yueting headed back into the school, laden with bags. Her retreating figure looked exceptionally stubborn.
Once she was gone, Lin Jiang got back in his car.
「By the time he returned to Zhonghai, it was already past four in the afternoon.」
When he reached the city, he found a place to stop. Looking at the trunk, which was filled to the brim, Lin Jiang felt that Comrade Li had practically packed up his entire house for him.
He divided the vegetables, hen, and eggs from the car evenly into two portions.
One portion for Chen Jingxian, and the other for Xu Lin.
The fruit was divided evenly into six portions: one each for Chen Jingxian, Xu Lin, Qin Yangyang, Li Zhiyi, Qiu Yunong, and Jiang Xiaoqi.
Luckily, his family had many fruit trees at home, or there wouldn’t have been enough to go around.
Lin Jiang first drove to deliver a portion to Qiu Yunong and Jiang Xiaoqi.
Then he drove to Chen Jingxian’s home and brought her things over.
During the few days Lin Jiang was away, Chen Jingxian had completed her resignation procedures and officially become Lin Jiang’s employee. Her schedule was now much more flexible and relaxed.
When she opened the door, Lin Jiang saw Chen Jingxian dressed in pink yoga pants and a small blue athletic top, with beads of sweat on her forehead.
"You’ve got such a great figure already. You don’t need to work out."
"That’s not true. Look at my arms and legs—they’re all flab."
As she spoke, Chen Jingxian took the items from Lin Jiang’s hands and welcomed him inside.
"Your mom packed way too much."
"She said it’s all organic and that you should eat more of it."
"Did you keep any for yourself?"
"I don’t usually cook, so there’s no point in keeping any."
’I’m not lying,’ Lin Jiang thought. ’I just left some for the other women. I really didn’t keep any for myself.’
"That’s true. From now on, you can come here for dinner. I’ll cook for you."
"I was waiting for you to say that."
Chen Jingxian went to the kitchen and got Lin Jiang a bottle of water.
"By the way, another three million-plus has come into the account recently. President Huang from Berkeley said you’re trying to pool funds. Do you have a new project?"
Lin Jiang nodded. "I’m planning to acquire the Haojie Business Club. I don’t know the exact price yet, but the money we have on hand definitely won’t be enough. I have to pull our funds back."
"A business club?"
Lin Jiang nodded. "We need to make money from the common people, but we also need to make money from the big bosses. We have to tackle both fronts."
"I understand what you mean. Right now, besides our liquid capital, there’s also a 19 million investment fund in the account. I think that’s more than enough."
"The investment fund has other uses. We can’t touch it for now," Lin Jiang said.
"We need to speed up the cash flow recovery from the mall. If we can scrape together 20 million in the short term, we should be set."
"I’ll help you look into that business club tomorrow. Then we should have a rough idea."
"Okay."
"You probably haven’t eaten since you got back, right? Wait a minute, I’ll go make you dinner."
Lin Jiang checked his watch. It was already past six in the evening, so there was no need for him to leave just yet.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK—
Just then, there was a knock on the door. Chen Jingxian went to open it. The visitor was Wang Minxia.
"Oh, Xiaojiang is here."
Seeing Lin Jiang sitting in the room, Wang Minxia immediately beamed.
’Looks like these two have made some progress.’
"Auntie."
"Sit, sit, don’t get up," Wang Minxia said with a smile. "You’re not a stranger here."
"Mom, Lin Jiang just got back from his trip. He came to drop off some vegetables for me," Chen Jingxian explained.
"Look at how good this boy Xiaojiang is to you, even remembering to bring you vegetables."
Chen Jingxian didn’t argue, because Lin Jiang really was quite good to her.
"But you really need to be careful about what you eat lately. No eggs or other high-protein foods."
"I know."
"I’ll go to the kitchen and tidy up these vegetables. You go keep Xiaojiang company."
"Okay."
Seeing Chen Jingxian walk over, Lin Jiang asked, "You have gallbladder problems, too?"
"You do, too?"
"Not me, but I have a friend with the same issue."
"It’s not a new girlfriend, is it?"
"A card-playing buddy."
"A card-playing buddy?"
"The kind where I play a card and ask if she wants another."
"Oh, so that’s how it is. I know how to play Fight the Landlord too," Chen Jingxian said.
"Alright then, I’ll take you to play cards with us sometime," Lin Jiang said, getting up.
"Since Auntie is here, I should get going."
"Stay a little longer. My mom just came to check on me because my cholecystitis is acting up. She’ll be leaving soon." Chen Jingxian was a little reluctant to see him go.
"I have other things to do later. We have plenty of time."
"Alright then. Drive safe."
"Okay."
Lin Jiang walked to the door and said to Wang Minxia:
"Auntie, I have some other things to take care of, so I’ll be leaving now."
Wang Minxia wanted to ask Lin Jiang to stay, but since he said he had things to do, she couldn’t press the issue.
"Take care of yourself at work. You can’t always be busy just making money."
"I will, Auntie."
After Lin Jiang left, Wang Minxia looked at Chen Jingxian.
"Did Xiaojiang call you before he came over?"
"He did. He was coming to drop things off, so of course he’d call to confirm."
"If you knew he was coming, why are you still dressed like this?"
Wang Minxia smacked Chen Jingxian on the butt. "These are so tight they’re leaving lines."
"Even though I fully support you two getting together, you still need to pay attention to how you dress," Wang Minxia said.
"And those two big things of yours, just out there for everyone to see. Even if it’s Xiaojiang, you need to be a little more modest. After all, you two haven’t made things official yet."
People of her generation were more conservative, so naturally, she couldn’t quite understand the younger generation’s ways.
