The next morning, when Lin Jiang woke up, it was already past eight o’clock.
"You’re up so early? You could have slept in. Just make sure to lock the door when you leave," Qin Yangyang said when she saw Lin Jiang come out.
"It’s past eight. That’s not early."
"I found a new toothbrush for you. Come eat after you’ve washed up."
"Okay."
After washing up, Lin Jiang went to the dining room. The table was covered with takeout containers.
His own breakfast was normal—rice porridge, eggs, pan-fried buns, and the like. But Qin Yangyang’s was very plain, all diet food.
"You should try these sticky rice balls. They’re delicious."
Qin Yangyang took the initiative to place one in Lin Jiang’s bowl.
This gesture was a bit unexpected for Lin Jiang. After all, Qin Yangyang’s personality was usually quite cold.
"And this fried egg, try it. I made it myself, it’s not takeout." As she spoke, she put the fried egg on his plate as well.
"My thanks to Comrade Xiaoqin for her hard work. From now on, you can eat at my restaurant for free."
"Deal." Qin Yangyang put down her chopsticks. "I’m about done, so I won’t keep you company."
"Okay."
Qin Yangyang returned to the walk-in closet in her bedroom to do her makeup and change.
When she came out again, her relaxed style was gone, replaced once more by her usual cold demeanor.
She wore black, form-fitting jeans that reached her ankles and a black, short-sleeved knit top. Her hair was tied up in a bun, giving her a very sharp and capable look.
"Give me your critique. What do you think of this outfit?"
"Are you going to work, or to a funeral? It’s so depressing."
"What funeral?" Qin Yangyang said nonchalantly.
"I have another case to deal with today, so I can’t dress too formally. It wouldn’t be practical."
"Then it’s perfect. That outfit could scare away ghosts. You’ll definitely be invincible."
"Then I’ll wear this."
After breakfast, the two left together. While waiting for the elevator, Qin Yangyang suddenly said:
"Oh, right, tell me your license plate number. I’ll give property management a heads-up in a bit."
"Sure." Lin Jiang sent her his license plate number.
"When are you planning to furnish the apartment?"
"I’m planning to check out some renovation companies today, find a professional to design it, and then start the next phase right away."
"Alright. I’ll have property management sort out the renovation permit. When you’re renovating, if you run into any trouble, just mention my name."
Lin Jiang knew about the renovation permit.
Before any renovations, someone from property management would come to inspect the unit and confirm with the owner that there were no issues with any aspect of the apartment.
To put it bluntly, it was a liability waiver. Once the renovation permit was signed, any problems discovered later would no longer be the responsibility of the property management; they would be attributed to the renovation work.
"Even if I want to tear down a load-bearing wall?"
"Sure. I’ll help you with the lawsuit."
It was a rare moment of humor from Qin Yangyang, and it had a certain charm.
"Then thank you, Xiaoqin."
PFFT—
Qin Yangyang couldn’t hold it in and burst out laughing.
"Please stop calling me Xiaoqin. It always reminds me of your aunt. Just call me Yangyang."
"Alright, Xiaoqin."
"You’re being such a brat. I’m gonna hit you."
At the main entrance of Century Triumph, Chen Jingjia arrived in a taxi.
She had just gotten out of the car and taken a few steps when she suddenly stopped.
’Not another Maybach!’
Nowadays, every time she saw a Maybach, Chen Jingjia’s heart would skip a beat, and Lin Jiang’s face would involuntarily flash in her mind.
’It can’t be the same car, can it?’
Since she hadn’t noted the license plate, Chen Jingjia wasn’t sure if this Maybach was the same one she kept seeing.
Taking out her phone, Chen Jingjia aimed it at the car, took a picture, and made a note of the license plate number.
She kept thinking to herself.
’It can’t be his car. He doesn’t even live here, so how could it be his! It must belong to one of the Qin Sisters!’
Walking into the residential complex, Chen Jingjia strode forward with her head held high.
’This place is full of rich people. I have to show my best side.’
"President Qin..."
Just as she walked in, she saw the receptionist on the phone.
Hmm?
Hearing that the call was from Qin Yangyang, Chen Jingjia stopped in her tracks and listened intently, not wanting to miss anything important.
"Yes, yes, of course. I understand. I’ve noted it down."
Soon, the female receptionist hung up, and Chen Jingjia casually walked over.
"Which President Qin was that on the phone just now?"
"Qin Yangyang. She gave me a license plate number and told me to enter it into the system."
Chen Jingjia nodded. It wasn’t a big deal, so she asked casually, "What’s the plate number? Let me see. What kind of car is it?"
"A Maybach."
"Huh?! A Maybach?"
Chen Jingjia’s heart hammered in her chest.
’Why is it a Maybach again?!’
"What’s the license plate number? Let me see it."
"Right here."
The receptionist handed Chen Jingjia the slip of paper with the license plate number written on it.
Looking at the number on the paper, Chen Jingjia pulled up the photo she had just taken.
The numbers were identical!
Phew...
Chen Jingjia let out a sigh of relief, her anxious heart finally settling.
’Qin Yangyang asked property management to enter the plate number into the system for easier access. That means it’s her car. She wouldn’t do this otherwise.’
"What else did President Qin say on the phone?"
"She told us at property management to take special care of this car, saying it belongs to her friend. Even if it’s parked inside the complex, we shouldn’t bother it."
"Her friend’s car!"
"That’s what President Qin said."
"According to procedure, we should have the owner’s name, ID number, and contact information. Did President Qin provide them?"
"Well..."
The receptionist didn’t know how to answer. She felt Chen Jingjia’s question was a bit silly.
’For something arranged by President Qin, we probably don’t need to follow the usual procedure, right?’
"Er... You have a point."
Only then did Chen Jingjia realize she had gotten overly excited.
"You can get back to your work. Just handle what President Qin assigned and don’t make any mistakes."
"Okay, okay."
Chen Jingjia carried her bag to her office, ready to change her clothes and start her workday.
But just as she came out after changing, the same receptionist came jogging over.
"Manager Chen, I forgot something just now."
"What is it?" Chen Jingjia said sternly.
"President Qin also mentioned that we should go to C2401 to process the renovation permit. The owner might start renovations in the next few days."
"C2401..."
Chen Jingjia muttered, ’If I remember correctly, this apartment was bought by President Qin’s friend, right? It was the two of them who came to handle the property procedures together.’
She felt a pang of regret whenever she thought about it.
The head office had kept her in meetings, causing her to miss the chance to meet Qin Yangyang.
"Yes. That car has three parking spots, which correspond to C2401. The apartment and the Maybach should both belong to President Qin’s friend."
Chen Jingjia nodded, feeling this was all perfectly logical.
"Print out the form, and then call Master Sun over. I’ll go with him."
Since Qin Yangyang had personally requested it, even if it was just going through the motions, Chen Jingjia didn’t dare to be neglectful. She had to seize every opportunity.
"Manager, can you take me to see it? I’ve never seen what one of Century Triumph’s apartments looks like inside."
"Look at you, acting like you’ve never seen the world. Come on, you can come too."
Though she verbally teased the other for being inexperienced, Chen Jingjia was the same. She had never been inside a 681-model unit either.
This was also Chen Jingjia’s first opportunity to admire a 681-model apartment.
"Hehe, thanks, Manager."
Although the apartments at Century Triumph almost never had quality issues, this procedure couldn’t be skipped or taken lightly.
They had to bring a technician who understood plumbing and electrical systems to do a thorough inspection inside, and only after confirming there were no problems could they hand the form over to the owner.
Soon, the receptionist had the inspection form printed out and had also called over the most experienced plumbing and electrical technician to go inspect it with them.
With the key in hand, the group arrived at C2401.
The moment the door opened, an aura of high-end luxury washed over them.
Chen Jingjia no longer knew what words to use to describe the scene before her.
Although videos of it had been leaked online many times, seeing the actual apartment in person for the first time was still breathtaking.
"Just how rich do you have to be to afford a place like this?" the receptionist exclaimed.
Chen Jingjia forced herself to remain calm, but she was pondering the same question.
’For an apartment worth over a hundred million, you’d need a net worth of at least five billion to afford it, right?’
’I’ll definitely never be able to afford a place like this myself. I can only hope to meet a billionaire tycoon, then I might have a chance to live this kind of life.’
’I have to work hard to improve my own class and quality of life, or I’ll never catch a tycoon’s eye.’
The inspection was Master Sun’s responsibility, so Chen Jingjia and the receptionist began to tour the inside.
Standing before the massive floor-to-ceiling windows, she gazed at the river view and the bustling concrete jungle on the opposite bank.
For a brief moment, Chen Jingjia felt as if she had conquered the city.
But this exhilarating feeling came as quickly as it went.
After the thrill, waves of emptiness washed over her. ’If only this apartment were really mine.’
After admiring the river view for a while, Chen Jingjia took out her phone and snapped several selfies with the bustling Zhonghai CBD in the background.
After taking the photos, Chen Jingjia went to explore the other parts of the apartment.
’It’s not every day I get to come here. I have to see every part of it.’
The bedroom! The kitchen! The study! The bathroom!
Gazing at the luxurious bathtub in the bathroom, Chen Jingjia could already picture herself in it, soaking in a rose-scented bubble bath, sipping red wine, and binge-watching a show.
’It’s just too perfect!’
At this thought, Chen Jingjia took out her phone again, snapped a few more pictures, blocked all her colleagues, and posted a nine-photo grid to her social media.
"Work hard, Xiaochen! One day, you can live here too!"
Soon, she received several likes and comments.
"Go for it, girl! You’re the best!"
"This apartment is gorgeous! Must be tens of millions for a unit, right?"
"An apartment that high isn’t safe. It’s really not as good as my big villa in the countryside."
"Class President, you’re so amazing! You’ve always been so outstanding. So envious!"
"Who the f*ck buys a Xiaomi!"
Seeing these comments, Chen Jingjia rolled her eyes and muttered, ’What a loser.’
Then she deleted the person who sold Xiaomis.
’Thank goodness I came to my senses early and got a divorce. If I had stayed married to Lin Jiang, I would never have been able to live in a house like this in my entire life,’ Chen Jingjia thought.
"Manager Chen, the inspection is done. No problems at all. You just need to sign here," said Master Sun, the technician.
"You didn’t miss anything, did you? This is a task from President Qin. There can’t be any slip-ups."
"You can trust my work. I haven’t made a mistake in all my years here."
"Good."
Chen Jingjia took the renovation permit, ready to sign it.
But the moment she took the form, she froze on the spot as if struck by lightning!
Owner: Lin Jiang!
