Lin Jiang painted a grand and perfect picture.
Wang Zixuan’s eyes lit up. "This event sounds great! Can we participate too?"
"Of course. I’m thinking of using Jiaoda as a launch point. After your competition is over, we can partner with other universities to get this event going," Lin Jiang said. "We’ll also provide appropriate sponsorships and prize money to make the event as successful as possible."
"We’ll definitely give our full support. Is there anything else you need us to do?"
"This event at your school, is it organized by the Student Union or the Youth League Committee?"
"The Youth League Committee. My support doesn’t mean much, though. Whether it can happen or not will depend on talking to the teachers in the committee."
"Alright, thanks."
"You’re welcome. It’s not like I did much to help."
"This is already a big help. You all should get back to your dance practice. I won’t take up any more of your time."
"Okay."
Wang Zixuan returned to her group, and Lin Jiang left the activity room.
’I could go directly to the teachers on the Youth League Committee,’ Lin Jiang thought, ’but with Liu Tieqiang’s standing at the university, having him act as a go-between would definitely help move things along.’
’And if he doesn’t know the committee teachers well, I won’t have lost anything by asking.’
With that in mind, Lin Jiang called Liu Tieqiang.
"Teacher Liu, this is Li Yueting’s brother, Lin Jiang. We had dinner together last time."
"I remember you! I really enjoyed our chat last time. If I hadn’t had a class that afternoon, I definitely would’ve had a few drinks with you."
Liu Tieqiang said with a chuckle, clearly having a good impression of Lin Jiang.
"Well, now’s our chance. I’m at Jiaoda right now, Teacher Liu. Are you free this evening?"
"I am, but you’re looking for me all of a sudden. You must need something, right? Is it about your sister?"
"I just dropped her off, but I’m not getting involved in her business. I mainly just wanted to catch up and chat with you, Teacher Liu," Lin Jiang said. "I learned a lot from our last conversation and really benefited from it. I was hoping to ask for your guidance again today."
"Spoken like a true businessman. You really know what to say," Liu Tieqiang said. "But are you sure there isn’t something else? If there is, just say it."
"There’s really nothing, I just happened to hear the university is holding a cheerleading competition, and the students from the finance department are participating. I was thinking of offering a sponsorship, but the event is organized by the Youth League Committee. It seems like for that kind of thing, I’d have to talk to the teachers on the committee..."
"Hold on. I’ll get Old Ma to come out, and we can all have dinner tonight. As it happens, there’s something I wanted to talk to you about too."
"Sounds great!"
"Let’s say five o’clock. We’ll head over after class. We can meet at Champion Scholar Tower."
"Alright."
After hanging up, Lin Jiang checked his watch. It was four in the afternoon. He had an hour, which was plenty of time.
Before long, Xu Yingjun came out.
With her were Wang Zixuan and the others. Judging by their demeanor, they must have finished practicing.
The group walked out, talking and laughing. Just as they stepped out of the gymnasium, they saw Zhao Shengda and Cheng Shukai standing not far away.
"Don’t tell me those two have been waiting here this whole time?"
"Looks like it."
"Let’s take a detour. Don’t pay them any mind," Wang Zixuan said.
"Okay."
Wang Zixuan started to lead them away, but just then, Zhao Shengda and Cheng Shukai walked over.
"What do you want?"
The look of disgust on Wang Zixuan’s face deepened.
"Zixuan, I’m not here for you. I’m here for him."
"That’s even worse! He’s our senior, you know? Have some class."
"I just want to play some basketball with him. That’s all."
"You were the captain of the university team, and now you’re the captain of the graduate team. You’re coming to challenge him to a game of basketball? You’re just looking to bully him, aren’t you?"
"It’s not as serious as you’re making it out to be. We’re all basketball fans. What’s wrong with a friendly match?"
"Well, I don’t think it’s normal at all. Don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to."
Wang Zixuan said impatiently, "Cheng Shukai lost to him in basketball a few days ago. You’re just trying to help him get even."
"It’s not as complicated as you think. It’s just a game. Don’t read too much into it."
"Just stop. No one wants to play with you guys. Let’s go."
"Okay."
The girls prepared to leave, but Lin Jiang didn’t move. A game notification had appeared in his mind.
[A player has issued a challenge. Accept? Yes/No]
[Challenge: Basketball]
[Winner’s Reward: Donglai Supermarket Management Manual, 2,000,000 in cash]
Seeing the challenge reward, Lin Jiang felt a small thrill of excitement.
’Donglai Supermarket is a nationally renowned company, a leader in its industry.’
’During New Year’s Day last year, their customer traffic supposedly reached the hundreds of thousands. Countless entrepreneurs have gone there to study their model, but not a single one has been able to replicate their success.’
’If I get my hands on this manual, Berkeley can learn from their example.’
"It’s fine. The man made a request, I should at least humor him. We can just treat it as a game."
’Zhao Shengda is the team captain. I used to be one too, but I haven’t played much in years. Even with my epic-level physical enhancement, the outcome is still uncertain.’
’But then again, I was rewarded with 100% three-point accuracy before. Beating him should be a sure thing.’
Xu Yingjun pulled Lin Jiang aside.
"Brother Jiang, don’t play against him. I hear he’s actually really good. You can’t fall into his trap."
"Just sit back and enjoy the show."
Xu Yingjun said no more, choosing to trust Lin Jiang.
"You’ve got guts, man. Let’s go right now. It’s been a while since I’ve had a worthy opponent."
"Let’s go."
The group went to the basketball court.
As a former basketball team captain, Zhao Shengda had a high reputation at the university.
