Chapter 656 - Rush to the Rescue
Chapter 656: Rush to the Rescue
In the room, Eliza’s voice continued.
“Originally, I was a little guilty about this matter whether it was to you or to Joanna, but since you just agreed to kill Joanna with your own hands, my guilt is only for Joanna... After all, she is a good friend of mine. Due to this, I can’t bear to directly make a move. Instead, I let her go to Storm Island, maybe... there is still a chance of survival.”
Eliza said guilt, but there was no guilty expression on her face which made Paul shudder. With the dangers of Storm Island, it would be difficult to survive even if Paul went by himself, let alone Joanna.
This time, Paul’s inner struggle was much smaller than before. After all, he was getting used to it. He knew very well that Eliza did not fully trust him. Killing Joanna was to cut off his way to back off and avoid half-heartedness.
“By the way, I sent someone to tell Samuel yesterday afternoon that Joanna was trapped in Storm Island. According to the intel I received, he has immediately rushed to Storm Island to rescue her. It happened to help you get rid of this annoying guy.” Eliza’s eyes flashed, “You don’t have to be too grateful to me. As a close comrade in the same faction, this is what I should do.”
Chen Rui’s heart sank. He didn’t listen anymore as he left the room silently. He gained the trust of Eliza and Paul with great difficulty, and he was soon able to mix into the White Cliff. Killing Eliza rashly would only mess up the bigger plan. The top priority was to try to help the young couple out of danger first.
Chen Rui left the church immediately and went to look for Lucio. As a subordinate of Chen Rui. Lucio also stayed in the church during this period, but he spent a lot of time wandering in the Garden City to inquire about various news.
When Chen Rui found Lucio, he was accompanied by someone familiar, Commander Ina of the Iron Shield Mercenary Squad.
The 3 met in a remote alley, but Ina still looked around cautiously. Then, she took out something and handed it to Chen Rui.
“Samuel asked me to pass it to you, although I don’t know why he did it.” The female mercenary was clearly confused. In fact, Ina had already felt that Samuel might have an unusual relationship with ‘Richard’ when they were at the Thick Soil Castle of the mountain hobbit. However, she dispelled her doubt when both of them had some conflicts after that and they parted ways unhappily.
Unexpectedly, Samuel gave Ina something before he hurriedly left the Garden City yesterday. He asked her to pass it to ‘Richard’ who had already joined the church.
This raised the suspicion in the female mercenary’s mind again. As there seemed to be a church-related assassination in a certain manor last night, City Lord Kraut ordered the city guards to be sent out overnight to search for people of unknown origin. The city was still under martial law now. The church also closed its doors, suspending the entry of believers and outsiders. Ina never had the opportunity to meet Chen Rui until she found Lucio today.
Chen Rui took the long package, opened it and had a look. There was a broken sword inside which was broken when he pointed at Samuel.
Samuel asked Ina to pass the sword to him as a sign of a farewell apology because the Silver Knight knew that he might not be able to return from the Storm Island this time, so he could no longer continue his allegiance to Royal Highness Arthur’.
“Do you know where he is going this time?” Chen Rui asked.
Ina shook her head, bit her lip, and said, “He didn’t say, he just confessed a few strange words to me. But... I can feel that he seems to be going to accomplish an extremely dangerous thing.”
“I have to say that a woman’s intuition is very accurate.” Chen Rui sighed, “This guy left with a determination to die.”
Samuel did not ask Chen Rui for help. Storm Island was also a dangerous place for the real Saint powerhouse. He was unable to fulfill his vow to ‘Royal Highness’ for his beloved woman. How could he put ‘Royal Highness’ in danger?
These words shocked Ina, “Do you know where he went?”
“As a mercenary, you have completed the mission.” Chen Rui shook his head, “You don’t need to worry about the rest.”
“This is not a mission!” Ina revealed a furious expression, “I don’t know what’s your relationship with him, but as a friend who cares about him, I have the right to know the truth! What danger is he facing?”
Chen Rui looked at Ina’s emotional expression, and he suddenly understood something. He pondered and asked, “Do you know why I deliberately break the tie with the Iron Shield Mercenary Squad? Because I don’t want to hurt you! If you are really not afraid of being involved, you have to be quite prepared. At least you have to disassociate yourself from the Iron Shield Mercenary Squad, and you may even need to remain anonymous in your life...”
Ina didn’t expect such serious consequences, so Chen Rui added, “I will only reveal 1 thing. He risks his own life this time in order to save his beloved woman. Are you sure you still want to get involved?”
Ina was shocked. Her emotional expression finally calmed down; her eyes were filled with disappointment.
“Leave. Since he trusts you, I won’t do anything extra to you. However, you must forget what happened today, including this thing.” Chen Rui raised the broken sword in his hand and gestured to Lucio. They walked forward, leaving Ina blankly on the spot.
After leaving the alley, Chen Rui spoke to Lucio, “How much do you know about Storm Island?”
“Master, you mean that Samuel went to Storm Island?” Lucio was taken aback, then he replied, “Starting from Port Thor which is south of the Garden City, you can reach the Storm Sea area. If we are fast, it takes about 2 days. When I completed the mercenary mission 3 years ago, I passed through the sea area, but I didn’t dare to approach it.”
“If you were to go to Storm Island now, do you have the guts?”
Lucio was shocked again. He hesitated for a moment and gritted his teeth, “If it weren’t for master, I’m still a half-dead trash. Since I followed master, my life has been given to master! Don’t mention going to Storm Island, I will not hesitate to even go to the Demon Realm!”
Chen Rui was taken aback by the last sentence, then he smiled, “The Demon Realm... Don’t worry. Going to Storm Island this time will not kill you. Get a small fishing boat immediately. Remember, the duller the better. No shipmen or sailors, and no supplies. Oh, I also need a related sea area map.”
“Fishing boat?” Lucio thought he had heard it wrong, “Master, we need at least a sea ship and a few sailors, right? The storm sea area is not an inland river.”
“Do as I say, the sooner the better.” Chen Rui thought for a while, “Also, I may soon leave the Garden City, go to the Dragon Bright Empire, and then go to the White Cliff. Neither do I know what kind of turmoil will be caused by then. Therefore, you must first ‘die’ once, then change your identity so that you can avoid being implicated.”
“Huh?” Lucio was taken aback, then he reacted and bowed respectfully without asking more.
My strength is just like a trivial ant for a Saint powerhouse like ‘Richard’. However, this powerhouse whom I need to look up at even considers the details of my safety and did not use methods such as killing the witness. In any case, he is truly a master worth following.
About 2 hours later, the fatty City Lord Kraut received urgent news from the patrol that the church’s Reserve Light Knight ‘Richard’ was ambushed by a group of unknown people in the third block and was severely injured. His subordinate, Lucio, unfortunately died.
Fatty City Lord’s heart was tight. Normally, he did not need to worry about a Reserve Light Knight being injured at all. However, the assassination of apprentice Eliza, the cardinal’s niece and the Holy Lady’s apprentice, happened in the Fragrance Manor yesterday. As a result, Eliza was seriously injured while Pastor Mana of Town Gudam was assassinated. This incident was likely to affect his position as the city lord. In this sensitive period, the second assassination of the people in the church took place.
The 2 assassinations should be closely related and were probably caused by the same forces. Then, the fatty City Lord received the news that Richard was the person who reminded Eliza at a critical moment yesterday. He was appreciated by Eliza and had already become Paul’s subordinate, the top genius of the Dragon Bright Empire and the apprentice of Paladin Captain.
Damn, these are all the people who I can’t afford to offend! The fatty was almost weeping. He hurried to the scene personally to console and treat the seriously injured ‘Richard’. At this time, the church people led by Pastor Solanton and Paul also came.
“Sir Paul!”
Chen Rui showed a strenuous expression. As he was about to struggle to get up, he was supported by Paul, “Richard! How is your injury? I will use the Holy Magic to treat you now!”
The Fatty City Lord on the side was secretly nervous as he looked. It seems that Paul and this follower have a rather unusual relationship. Fortunately, I did not neglect this matter.
Chen Rui sneered secretly. Paul is a ruthless character who can even kill his beloved woman with his own hands for the benefit. This is just to buy people’s hearts. Nonetheless, he still showed a moving expression in cooperation, “it’s okay, Sir Paul. City Lord Kraut has already asked someone to treat me. I’m fine now. I’ll be alright after a couple of days of rest. It’s just... My servant Lucio was hit by the assassin’s poison dagger. Even his corpse...”
“What is really going on?” Paul’s brows frowned tightly as he looked at the wound that Chen Rui had used [Camouflage] to mutilate.
“I don’t know. I came out of the Mansion of Light, found my servant Lucio, and asked him to prepare something to set off. Suddenly, I was ambushed by a group of assassins. If it hadn’t been for the thunderbird to remind me, I would be dead. I suspect... these assassins are related to those people in the manor last night.”
Chen Rui’s assassination actually had a lot of eyewitnesses, but those passers-by saw the illusion that Shura cast using magical power. The real Lucio already changed his appearance and went to Port Thor.
“Could it be a revenge for reminding Eliza last night?” Paul clenched his fist and patted Chen Rui’s shoulder lightly, “That servant will not die in vain. I will definitely not let this matter go! Since Eliza’s injury has not recovered, I also need to stay here for a few days. You can heal your wounds at ease, then come back to the Dragon Bright Empire with me.”
“Yes, sir.”
Back at the church, Solanton arranged a clean and peaceful room for Chen Rui to recuperate. Eliza also visited him specially. To be precise, Eliza was not visiting Chen Rui at this moment, but Shura.
Chen Rui set up a star point in the church. He left Shura here to ‘recover’ and continue to steal faith power here while he rushed to Port Thor.
TL: Can’t Eliza see through Shura with her own talent? Shura seems to have his own personality, right? Btw, what is the marriage custom of the human world? Is polygamy common here?
