Chapter 633 - Pastor Mana
Chapter 633: Pastor Mana
Pastor Mana was still skeptical. When he took over a space bracelet with 3 manticore eggs, his expression suddenly became quite excited. After confirming again and again, his original coldness and sternness disappeared and became friendliness.
“Lucio. Bis, I’m very pleased that I can see your father’s diligence and capability in you.” Fatty Pastor nodded encouragingly to Lucio as his face was full of praise. When his eyes turned to Chen Rui, he looked more amiable.
“Sir Richard, I’m very happy to meet you. It’s Lucio’s greatest fortune to have a friend like you. If there is anything that needs my help, I will definitely not refuse.”
Mana was of course jubilant. He originally endured the pain to spend 300 black crystal coins in the trade union to offer a reward for a manticore egg. Not only had he saved the 300 black crystal coins now, but he also unexpectedly got 3 manticore eggs plus 1 valuable space bracelet.
Fatty Pastor was an adaptable person who was good at judging the situation. Judging from the other party’s generous gift of space bracelet, he is by no means a simple character. Lucio also wears a space bracelet on his wrist. I know a little about the situation of this old friend’s nephew. After losing their wealth at home, he is just a poor man. It is impossible for him to have a high-level item like a space ring.
Obviously, it is because he got close to a certain big shot such as... the ordinary-looking young man..
Therefore, the fatty put down the usual self-proclaimed noble attitude and became quite friendly.
“Sir Pastor no doubt is as approachable as Lucio said.” Chen Rui smiled slightly, “Then I’ll just say it directly. My family is considered famous among a certain empire. Unfortunately, I’m only one of many inheritors. In order to make myself more competitive, I left the comfort home and to be trained by the challenges outside. Before I am confident, I don’t want to use my noble surname. So, I accepted Lucio’s help to become a mercenary.”
Mana showed an expression of “As I expected”, but he secretly estimated in his mind. Since the opponent can get the manticore egg, his strength or the one behind him is certainly not simple. Furthermore, he is so generous. Even if these words cannot be fully believed, they should be quite authentic.
“Holy Church is the guide of the human world that is admired by all humans and possesses the great might of omnipotence. I relate to this more deeply than before when I experience the outside world. I hope to use the power of the church to give myself the heaviest bargaining chip in this competitive scale.” Chen Rui bowed again, “Therefore, I specially came to visit Sir Pastor, and I would like to ask sir to point out a bright path.”
“What needs to be corrected is that it is not the church that has the supreme might, but the Light God.” Fatty Pastor’s triangular eyes narrowed slightly, and he shook his head regretfully. “Also, Sir Richard, I think you have found the wrong person. I’m just a pastor in a small town. How can I be qualified to give sir pointers?”
Chen Rui still kept smiling, “For a wise sage like sir, it is only an easy thing to point out the way for someone like me who is lost. I came in too hurriedly previously and only brought the newly acquired manticore eggs which is disrespectful. Please forgive me. As long as sir can give me a suitable and feasible suggestion, I will provide a handsome reward. If it is successful, then there will be a reward that makes sir more satisfied afterward.”
The fatty’s eyes lit up when the other party mentioned the “reward”. He thought for a moment, “Sir Richard, if what you said is true... Please forgive me for being rude, my suggestion is directly related to this...”
Seeing Chen Rui nodding, Fatty Pastor went on to say, “The might of Light God is endless. As long as there is sincerity and faith, it is possible to get the blessing of the light... In your case, becoming a Reserve Light Knight should be the best way. This way you can get power of light and take care of your family’s problems. The only drawback is that you will not be able to become a clergy that serves the light for a lifetime after you have the opportunity to take over the family in the future. Reserve Light Knight is the upper limit of the clergy that you can reach.”
These remarks had a cult vibe from time to time, but Chen Rui understood the point, Reserve Light Knight.
“How can I become a Reserve Light Knight?”
“According to Yang Shao Empire’s level, candidates for the Reserve Light Knight need to be nominated by the city-level church leader or the royal bishop. I don’t have this qualification yet.”
“During my training experience, I learned that the most important thing is to focus on the future. Sometimes, the determinants of potential are far more important than their appearance.” Chen Rui shook his head slightly, revealing a knowing smile, “Sir is just a pastor right now, but it doesn’t mean that it will be the same in the future. I believe... I will call you ‘Sir Bishop’ soon. Maybe this title will be even higher in the near future.”
Mana frowned. Just as he was about to speak, he saw Chen Rui’s hand holding a small bag out of thin air, “Sir Pastor, it was my negligence. You have shown me a bright path. As promised, this red demon gem is a token of appreciation. Please accept it.”
Mana initially seemed displeased when he saw the small bag. When he heard the words ‘red demon gem’, he shook slightly. When he opened the bag without shying away from Chen Rui and Lucio, there was a fire red gem that was the size of an egg. It had a faint breath of fire and dark elements, and there was no impurity in it. Mana was a person who could distinguish quality items. The value of this gem is at least 3000 black crystal coins!
Is this “a token of appreciation”? Mana’s gaze on Chen Rui suddenly became friendlier. This kind of gem was actually not too expensive in the Demon Realm which was rich in gems in dark elements. Moreover, Boss Chen had too many treasures. Any 1 of them was much more valuable than this. The original master of these treasures was the dragon.
“Sir Richard, I agree with your view just now. Potential is a very important quality.” Mana put the gem into the space bracelet. “As the saying goes, one can achieve anything with effort. No matter how difficult the road is, it is the result of people’s effort. If sir is really sincere and interested in becoming the Reserve Light Knight, you can try some ways. However, there is one thing I want to remind you, sir, even if you are nominated for Reserve Light Knight through some channels, it will be difficult to succeed if you don’t have the corresponding strength.”
“Well...” Chen Rui said with a thoughtful expression, “To be honest with sir, I do have a certain amount of power behind me, but I personally completed the manticore egg mission this time. Lucio, who led the way, can testify about this. However, I did not confront the manticores head-on. Instead, I used a special power related to talent which can barely be considered a strength.”
“Oh?” Mana showed a surprised expression when heard that Chen Rui did it himself.
“Sir Richard used a beast taming skill, and it is unimaginably powerful.” Lucio said, “The 2 manticores let Sir Richard take the egg without attacking at all. When I saw this scene, I almost thought I was dreaming! To tell Sir Pastor the embarrassing truth, I bite myself before I clearly understand that this is the truth.”
“The beast taming skill that can tame manticores!” Mana’s eyes showed a strong brilliance as he looked at Chen Rui carefully for a while, “Sir Richard, is this true? This is the key issue related to whether your dream can really be realized. Please answer me truthfully!”
“Yes.” Chen Rui nodded affirmatively, “The 3 eggs in sir’s hands are the best proof. The 2 manticores also left the Blue Wild Forest under my command. If you don’t believe me, sir can send someone to investigate.”
The so-called beast taming skill was a well-prepared foreshadowing specially prepared by Chen Rui. Judging from Lucio’s intel and the situation in which Mana offered a huge reward for the manticore egg, the manticore egg was probably related to the taste of a sir in the upper level. If he guessed it correctly, choosing Mana would be the right path.
No doubt, Fatty Pastor’s reaction was very eager. He rolled his triangular eyes and suppressed the enthusiasm in him as he asked, “Sir Richard. This matter is very important. Before we cooperate further, can I see your powerful beast taming skill with my own eyes?”
“Sure.”
“A few years ago, someone gave me a wind leopard. Although this wind leopard is far below the level of the manticore, it has a violent temperament. Even if it has a contract with me, it is hard to tame. I don’t know if sir can...”
Chen Rui replied without hesitation, “No problem.”
“Then, please come with me.” Fatty Pastor walked out with the 2 of them.
They passed through a few corridors and came to a hall. This was the hall where believers usually pray and worship. Today was exactly the day of prayer. The believers would pray at home, so there were no outsiders.
The fatty ordered the friars to leave the hall, leaving only Chen Rui and Lucio, “Please wait here, I will bring the wind leopard over now.”
As soon as the fatty left, Lucio immediately whispered, “Master, I know that wind leopard is a mutated bloodline. Its combat power has reached the peak of Warrior which is only a step behind Master. Of course, with sir’s strength, it must be easy to kill it, but...”
“Don’t worry.” Chen Rui shook his head indifferently and began to look at the prayer hall. The hall was very spacious. He could see the rows of seats like a church with a Light God statue in front of which was exquisite and meticulous, but its appearance was vaguely processed which made it even more mysterious.
Chen Rui had a different expression in his eyes when he stared at the statue of Light God. As the highest controller of the Tower of Faith in the Super System, he could clearly sense the special breath contained in the statue that was not perceivable by ordinary people.
The breath of faith!
A gleam of inspiration flashed through Chen Rui’s heart as if he had thought of something important, but before he had time to think about it, his thoughts were interrupted by a roar.
Pastor Mana approached with a black demonic beast which was the so-called wind leopard.
The wind leopard’s temperament was no doubt as violent and ferocious as Mana said. When it saw Lucio, a hostile growl sounded from its throat, making the spearman startled; he almost took out his weapon.
“Sir Richard...” Mana was about to speak when he saw the wind leopard’s movements suddenly stiffened. When it turned its head and glanced at Chen Rui who was approaching slowly, its pupils had a frightened gaze. It did not dare to move.
Chen Rui was silent for a moment, then he beckoned. The wind leopard walked over cautiously and lay down in front of him, making a cat whine sound as if it was not a ferocious demonic beast, but a docile kitten.
This scene not only stunned Mana, but even Lucio was dumbfounded- This kind of beast taming skill that made the ferocious wind leopard surrender at first meeting is simply unheard of.
Chen Rui wanted to say that in fact, he just released a breath to frighten the wind leopard, then he threatened and lured with a few words using the [Analytical Eyes]. Thus, he completed the process of turning the poor wind leopard into a cat.
TL: Is he thinking of stealing faith? Hmm, a little bit suspicious 🧐
