Chapter 387 - Three Words
Although Josh was shocked, he did not panic. The mobility and impact of the cavalry could be fully unleashed in the wilderness, but the cavalry in this team was only about 3,000 at best, so the threat was limited. Not to mention, the Red Spirit also had cavalry. Josh immediately gave an order, “Magicians, prepare magic! Archers, shoot!”
Rows of archers held up their longbows and shot arrows into the sky. However, the loss of the cavalry was not heavy. They were all equipped with shiny silver light armor and shields. The powerful maneuverability and effective defensive devices greatly reduced the arrows’ lethality. At this time, Kaguli, who rushed to the front, screamed. All the cavalry took out a strange bow. To be precise, it was a crossbow. They fired crossbow arrows toward the sky on top of the Red Spirit army.
The Red Spirit army showed disdainful laughter. The range of crossbow arrows are much shorter than that of bows, and it is difficult to reload. What’s the use of shooting arrows into the sky from such a distance?
At this moment, the almost declining crossbow arrow suddenly exploded in the sky, ejecting countless smaller arrows like second-level fire arrows. They shot toward the Red Spirit front army.
With this sudden change, the Red Spirit’s front army hardly had the time to raise their shields. What was more frightening was that these small arrows would explode. They were equivalent to small magic bullets, but the range of attack was very wide. In the midst of continuous explosion sounds, there was a horrifying chaos with heavy casualties all of a sudden.
Josh’s face was pale. At such a long distance, the crossbow is actually better than the bow! It simply subverts the conventional law of long-range warfare. When did this kind of weapon appear in the Demon Realm?
When the front army was in chaos, the cavalry had already narrowed the distance. If the Red Spirit cavalry were dispatched now, they might be able to entangle and delay the opponent’s advancement, but Josh did not do so because the magician team had finished their preparation. The dense magic bombardment would become a nightmare for these strange cavalry.
Suddenly, wind blades, fireballs, icicles, and thunder poured down like rain. They intertwined to form a splendid and colorful death web.
Under the leadership of the cavalry leader, Kaguli, the cavalry of the Dark Moon immediately dispersed, but many of them were still affected. Several galloping figures disappeared in the light of magic.
“Cavalry brigade, dispatch!” Josh spotted the opportunity, and he gave an order. The most elite cavalry brigade of the Red Spirit rushed out of the formation, trying to annihilate all the remaining Dark Moon cavalry. However, the Dark Moon cavalry was very counterintuitive. They did not confront it. Before the opponent approached, they turned around and left. However, while running back, they fired crossbow arrows backward.
It was still the strange crossbow arrow that split and exploded. It had a wide range of damage. Amid the sound of the explosion, the Red Spirit cavalry fell off their horses. Obviously, the Dark Moon cavalry didn’t load the crossbow arrow just now. It seemed that the crossbow could be shot more than once.
Seeing their companions fall down one by one, the Red Spirit cavalry chased in rage. They wanted to catch up with the enemy and chop them into pieces, but the Dark Moon’s style of fighting was very obvious. They only fight in long-range, so they would not give the enemy a chance to approach.
Josh’s heart was bleeding for miscalculating his move. These cavalry are the elite of the Red Spirit. They are built with large amounts of black crystal coins! Now, facing the Dark Moon army whose strength is clearly weaker than my army, I actually lost so much!
In desperation, Josh had no choice but to order the cavalry to return. Although the cavalry of the Red Spirit was in a fit of rage, they loyally executed the order. There is nothing much that can be done. We can neither chase them nor attack them. We only suffer from their attack. What can we do other than returning?
At this moment, the Dark Moon’s cavalry detestably turned back. They actually took the initiative to shoot the Red Spirit. It was that crossbow arrow again. They improved a lot by dispersing the formation wide open. Even the magicians could hardly cause such mass destruction effectively.
Another large number of Red Spirit cavalry fell off from their horses. Not only the soldiers were in rage, even Josh himself almost yelled out— This is too much!
These magic crossbows were a result of research by Tonk of the Cloak Gang under the guidance of Master Xingxing. Each could be fired 5 times. Every Dark Moon cavalry was equipped with 2 of these crossbows. However, due to the high cost and limited amount, they could only be equipped with this cavalry currently.
“Sir Josh.” Rus frowned, “The opponent is very cunning, so let’s order the whole army assault. In the face of pure power, all tricks are just illusory.”
Josh gritted his teeth and nodded. He was secretly regretful. If I didn’t plan to preserve my strength, I wouldn’t have caused the cavalry brigade to suffer such a heavy loss. Just now, at least 2,000 elite cavalry are injured.
Although the Dark Moon is able to win a small victory with the power of the strange crossbow, the difference of strengths of the 2 sides are still obvious. Even if we did not seize the first opportunity, even if we suffered unexpected losses, we will kill all the damn guys in the Dark Moon!
The heavy horn sounded, and the Red Spirit army quickly adjusted its formation to prepare for an assault.
While paying attention to the battle, Shea kept looking for Chen Rui who rushed out just now. The strange thing was that she never found him. Hearing the horn of the other party, she knew that the real test was coming. Meanwhile, the magic crossbow of the cavalry was almost used up, so she immediately ordered the cavalry to retreat quickly.
With the sound of the horn, the Red Spirit army charged like a tide. Although the Dark Moon’s morale had been greatly encouraged in the previous small victory, it was inevitable to show a trace of anxiety when they faced an assault of the enemy which was twice the size of their own.
At this moment, Josh suddenly sensed something, and he looked into the air. In his sight, a group of black spots were rapidly expanding. They were densely packed. There were actually nearly a thousand of them. Josh and Rus were both extremely shocked. They exclaimed in unison, “Wyverns!”
So many wyverns? Could it be... the air legion of the Dark Moon?
Impossible! It is impossible for a typical estate to have so many wyverns. Let alone the Red Spirit, even the only dragon knight legion in the capital is only 1000 people! How can there be a whole dragon knight legion in a poor place like the Dark Moon?
Could it be that the battle between the 2 armies alarmed a secret large group of wyvern?.
“There are people on wyvern!” With an eyesight beyond Rus, Josh exclaimed.
The wyvern quickly proved the suspicion of the 2 Demon Emperors with their actions. Strange objects fell from the back of the wyverns and landed in the assault formation of the Red Spirit army. The objects suddenly exploded.
This was not the drizzle like the previous bursting arrows, but a magic storm with a large killing scale. All of a sudden, there were flames everywhere, and the ground was shaking. The whole Red Spirit army, who were charging densely, were heavily injured or died in just a few rounds. The wyverns’ speed and height made it impossible for archers to effectively kill them.
The magician team immediately launched an attack on the wyverns, but the wyverns’ strength was extremely strong. A few dives caused the magician team to be in disorder. Some magicians were scratched by their poisonous claws, and they were killed on the spot. Some were caught and thrown down from a high altitude, causing their tendons to break and fracture.
The air legion and the ground army were indeed not on the same level.
However, no matter how strong the wyverns were, their number was limited after all. In the face of the Red Spirit’s tens of thousands of troops, in addition to killing and wounding, it even caused deterrence. The Dark Moon army never thought that there was still such a powerful air force hidden in their own side. All of them were excited.
When the Red Spirit army fell into chaos and panic, and the morale on Shea’s side rose to its peak, she finally issued a decisive order to charge. The Dark Moon army’s arrow formation began to charge forward.
The previous battles still contained skill and testing. The next step was the real hand-to-hand combat. Red Spirit’s morale was continuously diminished. Especially when the air was constantly being attacked by the wyvern intrusion, the army’s spirit was shaken. On the other hand, the Dark Moon’s morale was surging. Coupled with the exquisite equipment which Shea made at all costs, they gained the upper hand.
Josh never imagined that the scene would be completely out of his expectation. Knowing that the biggest hidden danger of the wyverns in the air must be solved, he immediately rose into the air. Just as a wyvern swooped over, the mark wrapped around Josh flashed a strange light. It exuded a terrifying chill which swept past the wyvern.
The wyvern and the knight on its back froze at a speed visible to the naked eye. The wyvern could no longer flap its wings, so it fell to the ground from mid-air. Its body shattered like an ice sculpture.
The powerhouse in the Demon Emperor realm had the ability to fly without any magic support. On the other side, Rus had the bloodline talent [Holy Wings] to fly. He waved his greatsword wrapped in flames in the air. The black flame hit one flying wyvern. It wailed and turned to ashes instantly.
Shea had been paying attention to Josh’s actions. Seeing that the 2 Demon Emperors, Josh and Rus, finally took action, she knew that there was no other Demon Emperor besides her on her side. If this persisted, the wyvern legion would be wiped out, and the battlefield would also be reversed. She didn’t have the time to consider the danger at the moment. 2 pairs of black wings emerged behind her, emitting a faint light. She flew toward Josh.
Josh had already been prepared for it. With a point of his finger, a cloud of [Ice Flame] flew toward Shea. Shea’s purple pupils instantly turned black and white. There was a snow-like long sword in her hand. She drew a sharp light arc and cut the [Ice Flame] into half.
“Oh?” Josh was slightly surprised, and then he showed a determined expression, “I didn’t expect the Princess Royal Highness to have reached the Demon Emperor realm, but unfortunately, you are only the early stage of the Demon Emperor. Moreover, your actual combat experience is too poor. You’re not my opponent.”
This sentence was not bragging. After Shea used the power of [Heart of Light and Dark] and [Holy Wings] to cut apart the ice flame, her hand, which was holding the sword, was slightly trembling because of the [Thunder] power contained in the ice flame. However, she didn’t hesitate at all, and she flew straight to Josh.
Josh’s flying ability was a combination of the Demon Emperor and magician, but it was not as fast as [Holy Wings]. Once Shea came close, even if her strength was far weaker, he would be in an extremely passive position.
Josh had abundant combat experience, so he certainly would not let Shea approach him so easily. The rune light in his hand was shining brightly. Shea felt an intangible shock approaching her. After she blocked with her sword, she was blown away by the powerful shock wave. She managed to stabilize herself with much difficulty in the air.
At this time, Rus’ figure appeared ghostly behind her. He was carrying the greatsword of horrifying [Dark Flame], and he beheaded immediately. Meanwhile, Shea had just used up her power, so she could not seem to avoid it.
At this moment, a figure appeared beside Shea instantly. This powerful sword slashed on the blue light shield that appeared at the same time. It actually only left a faint crack. Most of the [Dark Flame] seemed to be absorbed by the light shield as well.
This was a man in a cloak with a strange mask faintly visible on his face. One couldn’t see his true face.
Rus was taken aback. He slashed again, but he was still unable to break the light shield. He saw that the man in the cloak opened his hand and aimed at him. Rus secretly knew that there was danger, so he quickly backed away.
3 huge light balls fired one after another, flying toward Rus. If he didn’t notice it earlier, he would have been hit.
It’s him!
The mysterious powerhouse that did the assassination earlier!
Seeing the familiar light ball, Rus and Josh understood at the same time. Then, the figure pulled Shea with [Teleportation] to avoid the [Ice Storm] sent by Josh.
The blue transparent shield seemed quite familiar to Josh, but he still didn’t think of a certain human. Not to mention that it was impossible for the human to appear here, even if he was really here, it was impossible for him to resist the 2 slashes from Rus which contained [Dark Flame].
However, Shea’s eyes widened instantly. [Double Teleportations]! Protective shield!
I have a deep impression!
It’s that guy!
The enemy who once sneaked into the Dark Moon Palace, stole the fragments of the God-Eating Mask, and got a glimpse of my biggest secret. He’s also the biggest enemy of the Lucifer Royal Family- Beel! Ze! Bub!
This disappeared enemy unexpectedly appeared at this time. He even saved her somehow.
Shea’s eyes showed a strong murderous intent. The long sword in her hand stabbed at the cloaked man without thinking.
Although Josh and Rus are also enemies, the battle with them is only within the Fallen Angel Empire. The Beelzebub Royal Family is the biggest hidden danger of the entire empire. As a descendant of the Lord of Midnight Sun, I will never betray the entire empire for certain benefits. Even if he saved me just now, he must have a conspiracy. No matter what, this worst enemy must die!
The long sword in Shea’s hand tightened. It was grabbed by the opponent empty-handedly, and it was unable to thrust forward. Shea’s eyes quickly began to turn into black and white. She obviously wanted to use the strongest power of the [Heart of Light and Dark].
“A foolish woman!” The man in the cloak said, “Remember these 3 words?!”
Shea heard this familiar voice like a thunder sound. “A foolish woman” was what she said to herself previously in the council hall of the palace...
This was one of her secrets. Only the man knew and understood.
It! Is! Impossible!
“A few hours ago, I thought I had forgotten these 3 words, but now my memory is clearer than ever. Anyway, you should remember a certain promise, right?”
——When I say these 3 words next time, you can’t kill me.
This was her promise back then.
“If you want to know the truth, just survive this battle, then I will wait for you at a place that only you know.” Shea heard a whispering voice. As soon as the cloaked man said this, he turned into a plume of smoke and flew toward Josh.
Shea took a deep breath as she forcibly suppressed the shock and doubt in her heart. Yes, survive! Then wait for him to answer in person!
In any case, I must know the answer!
The determined Princess Royal put aside all the distracting thoughts. She stood in the air, and she pointed the long sword at Rus in front of her. An unprecedented powerful aura burst out.
Both Rus and Shea were early stage Demon Emperors. Although Rus had more experience and strength, he didn’t dare to let his guards down. 2 pairs of black wings also appeared behind him. He blew the greatsword in front of him, and the [Dark Flame] started burning.
Without the disruption from Rus and Josh, the wyverns began to attack the Red Spirit’army frantically again. The Red Spirit rear army and the middle army became the targets of the intensive strikes. The battle situation entered a stalemate.
Judging from this situation, the outcome of the battle in the air between the leaders from both sides would determine the outcome of the entire battle.
Foolish woman, even if everyone betrays you, he wouldn’t...
