Chapter 345 - Ambush
The badge of the palace high rank consultant really worked. Chen Rui went straight to the palace without hindrance. Obsidian got the news of his arrival and immediately put aside his business to meet him.
“Royal Highness.” Chen Rui bowed with joy on his face, “The initial capital investment was very smooth. The most difficult period of my family has finally passed thanks to Royal Highness’ trust and timely financial support. The initial 2 phases of 100 million rebates are now combined into 1 phase. I’ll return it all to Royal Highness. Here is 1.2 billion. Please send someone to count it, Royal Highness.”
With that, Chen Rui waved his hand. A pile of space rings appeared on the ground! Each of them were filled with bags of bulging black crystal coins.
Obsidian did not look at the pile of space rings. If this human can keep his words and come to the Demon Realm again, he will definitely not use lowly tricks like cutting down the amount. Obsidian nodded with satisfaction, “Mr. Charles is indeed a trustworthy person. Is there a plan for the next investment? How much do you need?”
“I don’t need it at the moment...”
The attitude of “Charles” surprised Obsidian. He actually refuses the money I’m offering?
Obsidian was a suspicious person by nature. If Chen Rui immediately asked for more money, he would inevitably have some doubts in his heart. On the contrary, when Chen Rui didn’t want it now, it was equivalent to giving away 200 million in vain. This made Obsidian frown...
After a long while, Obsidian said, “Sir, you can tell me frankly, have you found a new partner?”
Chen Rui smirked secretly, knowing that his little trick was successful. He shook his head, “Don’t get me wrong, Royal Highness. I promised that the Fallen Angel Empire will be my only partner. In fact, this is the case. Currently, the investment projects have been activated one by one. My family business is gradually picking up. The crisis is over, but it is not ideal to always be on the defensive, so we need to accumulate power to prepare for a counterattack. The next step of investment is still calculating.”
Obsidian’s complexion was slightly gloomy as he nodded lightly.
“I have a team of about 50 people, all of whom are senior calculators who are responsible for the budgeting of revenue and expenditure. Every detail must be included because sometimes, a small wound can be fatal.”
“50 people are responsible for budgeting?” Obsidian was slightly surprised, “It’s the top business family indeed.”.
“Financial budget is only one aspect. On the other hand, that great matter has reached a critical moment. I believe that it will not take long to get the final result. This is the real keypoint. Once I succeed, then I have an 80% chance of winning. It will be of inestimable benefit not only to my great cause, but also to Royal Highness.”
Obsidian said eagerly, “You mean...”
“In any case, my promise remains the same. Obsidian Royal Highness will be the only partner of Charles Roland. At that time, Royal Highness will be able monopolize the resources of the Demon Realm. This will play an immeasurably huge role whether in terms of the control of the country or the diplomatic relations with other countries.”
Chen Rui’s words finally made Obsidian’s face full of joy, “Then, I’m looking forward to this day.”
“It will be as Your Highness wished.” Chen Rui bowed.
“It will also be what Your Highness wished.” Obsidian was in a good mood. No matter what, Chen Rui gave him 200 million for nothing, so his title changed.
“By the way, Sir Charles came from afar, you must have had a long day. I will host a banquet in the evening to welcome you. There will be a ball later. Sir still doesn’t have an official residence since coming to the Demon Realm, right? I will present the capital’s most luxurious house to you later with dozens of beautiful women. Compared with the women in the human world, I believe they will give you a different taste.”
Dozens? Chen Rui was secretly shy. Even the dragon talent is not enough to handle them.
“I’m very grateful for Your Highness’ hospitality, but you don’t have to. I will continue to live with Isabella. It is undeniable that she is a real beauty, isn’t she?”
“Isabella?” There was a hint of playfulness in Obsidian’s eyes. “I have heard of some scandals between sir and this madam. I never thought that sir is really interested in her, but don’t forget, this madam has the nickname of the capital’s Devil’s Snare. In the Demon Realm, Devil’s Snare is a poisonous flower. Although it is beautiful, it contains fanatic poison that makes it difficult for people to extricate themselves from.
If sir’s target is Isabella, I can only wish you good luck. ”
“The more difficult it is, the more flavorful it is, isn’t it? Your Highness?” Chen Rui gave a smile that any man would understand.
Obsidian also smiled, “The fiercer the horse is, the more vigorous it is. Sir Charles is indeed a tasteful noble. I personally support sir unconditionally. I wish sir can truly pluck the capital’s famous flower as soon as possible.”
Chen Rui thought secretly. It seems that Isabella’s identity and value is different. Obsidian did not directly say “give”, but he encouraged me to “pursue.” Perhaps the value I have expressed currently is not enough.
“As long as Royal Highness doesn’t reward me with a house for the time being, it is the greatest support.” Chen Rui laughed, “Actually, she and I are just ordinary friends now, but there are already a lot of troubles aiming at me.”
“Since it is the Devil’s Snare flower, sir should be mentally prepared.” Obsidian smiled and said, “But sir can be rest assured that nothing can affect our cooperation plan. The banquet tonight...”
“Pardon me, can the Your Highness’ welcome dinner be reserved for the next time?” Chen Rui didn’t want to participate in any banquets and dances. “My time is too tight this time. After a short break, I will visit the Red Spirit Estate to meet my brother who is training in the Demon Realm. My father has important things to pass to him. Then I will go straight back to the human realm and proceed to the most critical part of the plan.”
Obsidian nodded, “Of course, I hope sir can be recognized by that grand master soon.”
Chen Rui left the palace and returned to Isabella’s house. He proposed his plan to go to the Red Spirit Estate. Isabella nodded and offered to send him in a special carriage. Chen Rui declined her kind offer, but he asked for a good horse. After having lunch in a hurry, he rode straight out of the city all the way.
At this point in the plan, Chen Rui definitely had to make arrangements for Samuel so that he would not stay and take the blame at that time. It was said that Samuel had reached the critical stage of the breakthrough last time, but Chen Rui had no idea about the details. At that time, he could go back to the Dark Moon directly from the Red Spirit.
Chen Rui galloped all the way on horseback, and he soon left the capital city. Pedestrians began to become scarce. About 2 hours later, when he reached a loop going around the mountains, a dangerous omen suddenly appeared in his heart.
Before he stopped his horse, a group of meteorites mixed with flames suddenly fell from the sky. It instantly smashed Chen Rui and his horse to the ground. The ground was being trampled by the fire element’s powerful magic, [Meteor Rain]. There was continuous violent shock.
The cathartic meteorite finally stopped gradually. Enormous pits and cracks appeared on the nearby road. The bodies of Chen Rui and the horse were nowhere in sight. Only blood stains and pieces of flesh were faintly seen.
“Huh?” Someone suddenly let out a surprised sound, then several figures chased forward. In the blink of an eye, they already went into the mountain range.
At the moment of life and death just now, Chen Rui dodged in time. He went far away from the range of the magic. It was the poor horse who died under the [Meteor Rain].
Chen Rui realized that he was surrounded. There must be a powerful magician. He immediately fled into the mountain. He wanted to use the terrain to avoid magic at a distance. Those who tried to kill him were naturally in hot pursuit.
Passers-by in the distance only saw flame-like meteors falling. The ground trembled, and then a figure seemed to fly past abruptly before disappearing.
Chen Rui fled all the way to a forest. Due to the unfamiliar environment, his speed inevitably slowed down. A figure suddenly passed by in front of him. At the same time, a spherical black ray attacked. Chen Rui could feel a huge oppression force from a distance. He had no choice but to turn around. The missed black ray hit a giant tree which could be hugged by 5 people. The tree seemed to be exploded from the inside by some powerful explosives. A terrifying hole was burst open in the centre and wood chips were flying everywhere. There was a screeching sound before the tree fell down.
Chen Rui dodged the black ray, but another green ray stormed forward. This green ray didn’t seem powerful. However, Chen Rui’s expression was more serious than facing the black light previously. Wherever the green ray passed, the tree on the opposite side was broken into 5 sections. The cuts were extremely smooth as if it was cut by an extremely sharp qi.
Behind him, a huge sea of fire continued to burn like a wall. It contained the searing power of fire elements, making Chen Rui unable to retreat.
“Not running away?” The cold voice sounded. This was a burly man with a black short stick in his hand. The long stick had a ball with countless sharp spikes, and there was an iron chain at the end. It was this terrifying mace that smashed the giant tree into powder just now.
The burly man was from the Wrath Royal Family. His Comprehensive Strength Assessment had reached B+, the peak of Great Demon King.
Physique: B+, Strength: B+, Spirit: C, Agility: B-.
The Wrath Royal Family was a royal family with the surname of Samael. The Wrath Empire was destroyed by the Bloody Empire during those years. Chen Rui once fought against the vice deputy of the Blue Lava Estate’s Double-headed Dragon Legion, Lavat, who was a Demon King-level, in the Dark Moon. Wrath Royal Family’s [Bloodfury] talent was quite impressive. From the data point of view, this man was clearly a strength type opponent.
The sharp qi came from a woman wearing strange long sleeves. Her facial features were quite beautiful, but there was a crossed knife scar on her face, destroying her original appearance. A cold murderous aura overflowed from her slightly slanted eyes. Even without the identification of the [Analytical Eyes], Chen Rui could see that the long-sleeved gown was a special piece of equipment. He didn’t know whether it was the long-sleeve or the sharp weapon hidden in the sleeve that cut the tree just now.
Race: Arrogant Royal Family (mutated). Comprehensive strength: B.
Physique: B-, Strength: B, Spirit: B, Agility: B+.
The magician who used the [Meteor Rain] shower was hovering at about 3 meters in the air. He was holding a long wooden stick in his hand. His face looked older.
Race: Great Demon (mutated). Comprehensive strength B+.
Physique: C, Strength: C-, Spirit: B+, Speed: C+.
2 peak Great Demon Kings and 1 intermediate stage Great Demon King. Moreover, they had power, speed, and long-range magic types. This combination of combat power was quite terrifying. The level of danger was far greater than facing Sulfur and the 2 vampires last time.
“There is 1 more, come out. Do you still want to be a demon ostrich with your head down now?” Chen Rui’s gaze fell behind the big tree on the other side.
“Hmph! After you become a dead body, let’s see if you can still talk so arrogantly.” A somewhat familiar voice sounded, and the figure gradually became clear. A tall, thin and handsome man wearing a set of valuable armor. He was holding a beautifully decorated sword in his hand. It was actually Lordan, the heir of the capital’s veteran family, Lincoln Family, who was once humiliated by Chen Rui in front of Isabella.
“It’s you!” Chen Rui frowned. “I’m the palace high rank consultant. You dare to assasinate me. If the Regent Royal Highness knew...”
“Although the capital is headed by the regent, not everything is decided by the regent. Many things are inseparable from the determination and power of our veteran family. Not to mention that you are not a nobleman; you are just a consultant. Even if you are a real nobleman, I will still kill you! From the last time you humiliated me in front of Isabella, you have been doomed to have an eerie death!” When Lordan mentioned this, he seemed extremely furious. His handsome facial features were even distorted.
Last time, it was clearly Lordan himself who did the sneak attack first, and he finally suffered humiliation from his own action. Unexpectedly, he even blamed this hatred on Chen Rui. Chen Rui knew that it was useless to reason with this kid from a wealthy family, so he smiled indifferently, “Since you want to kill me, you must first be prepared to die.”
“Stop bluffing!” Lordan sneered, “I have the most reliable information. Your power is at most the peak of the Great Demon King. You have not reached the Demon Emperor at all. You will undoubtedly die today!”
Chen Rui noticed another thing. From his arrival at the capital to leaving, he just went to Isabella’s house to stay for a while, met Obsidian in the palace, and then returned to Isabella’s house where he left after eating. In such a short time, Lordan detected his movements and arranged an ambush. It seemed that what Isabella said that Rommel wanted to mess with him was not a lie.
It’s just that Rommel is also extremely cunning. He actually instigated Lordan, who has a grudge on me, to do it while he remained hidden behind him. He is really sly. Perhaps I can give him the nickname of the”capital fox”?
Judging from the intel disclosed by Isabella deliberately, Rommel is one of the representatives of the veteran family. In contrast, Isabella’s background is much inferior. She is only recognized by the upper aristocracy due to her deceased husband’s family relations.
Obsidian is actually more fearful of Rommel, but out of scruples about the huge power of the capital’s veteran family, he had to entrust the important task of taking charge of the imperial military affairs to him.
It is highly possible that Rommel is not very clear about the origin of “Charles” and my plan.
In any case, the relationship between Obsidian and the veteran family has a lot of underlying stories.
For example, these people in front of me...
Lordan’s arrogant voice pulled Chen Rui back to reality from his quick thinking, “You don’t even have a chance to escape or beg for mercy now. These powerhouses came with the order to kill, but... I can give you time to have your last words. ”
“I’m sorry. I never thought about escaping from the beginning including coming here.” Chen Rui smiled slightly. “Because I can use my power without any scruples in this remote place. In fact, this is why I want to apologize. You all will die.”
Don’t judge the book by its cover...
