Chapter 378 - Surprising Change! The Beginning of the War of Lords

Chen Rui was a bit confused about Zola’s resentment. She was obviously very happy at the capital last time, so he didn’t know how he offended this lady that she finally brought him back after knocking him out by electrifying.
In fact, with his familiarity with the Rainbow Valley magic circle, plus the [Star Gate], it was not difficult to escape, but the fairy dragon put something on him that enable her to track his location. She could even see through skills such as [True Camouflage] and [True Breath Holding]. If he escaped to the Dark Moon and the fairy dragon saw the poison dragon, the consequences would be disastrous. So, he should try to completely avoid this trouble.
Joseph is probably done for now. Shea can implement the subsequent steps according to the original plan. Even if I am not there, there should be no big problem.
Chen Rui calmed down. While studying the seal of Paglio with the fairy dragon and discussing the problem of the Sword of Fallen Angel, his level of ancient runes was also improving rapidly. Although Ms. Fairy Dragon would inexplicably give him minor punishment out of the blue, she still gave him great inspiration and help in terms of ancient runes and territory.
He was able to launch the [Autumn Territory] relatively steadily. His power of Megrez was also growing stronger step by step. Even if it was not launched, he had more experience in understanding and using the territory after the battle with Broc. In the solar system of the Super System, many planets were changing step by step, the oceans and lakes had begun to be formed. The plants had slowly evolved from the original fungi and algae. An environment like swamp forest had appeared. It added lively and vibrant greenery.
His Comprehensive Strength Assessment had reached B+, but his Megrez experience was still at the one last step.
After learning that Zola’s territory could freely convert various elements, which was equivalent to several territories, Chen Rui’s mind shifted and a new idea appeared. He once combined Nirvana in the [Autumn Territory] last time to heal and strengthen Isabella. Is it possible to separate this buff to create a new form of territory which can heal and strengthen myself or my allies? Maybe it can be called the [Spring Territory]”?
Of course, this was just a future development direction. With his current strength, it was better that he fully comprehended the mystery of [Autumn Territory] first in order to break the bottleneck of Megrez.
Time passed day by day. 2 months in the blink of an eye. Zola’s mood improved a lot. Sometimes she even unprecedentedly made some weird food for him to eat, but the taste was not flattering. It was probably another kind of experiment.
Although he had gained a lot in the Rainbow Valley, Chen Rui missed Athena and Kia very much. He was also worried about some things. Is Shea completely in control of the Dark Moon? To what extent has Obsidian cracked down the Bloodfall? How did he deal with the rumors around? Did Aldas participate in the capital’s potioneer contest...
He could come back to the Rainbow Valley again, but he must return to the Dark Moon. After long-term experiments and preparations, Chen Rui finally started his escape plan. Since the set star point would be invalid in 1 month, he could only escape by cracking the magic circle directly.
For the sake of caution, he was just testing the water during the first time. He intended to detect a certain imprint on his body by Zola. Once the speculation in his mind was confirmed, it could be removed at once. Then as long as a star point was set somewhere outside the valley, he could easily use the [Star Gate] to leave at any time.
So, one afternoon, while Ms. Fairy Dragon was taking a nap after being exhausted from the experiment a few days ago, Chen Rui carefully cracked the magic circle and escaped from the Rainbow Valley.
He disguised his face and came all the way to the capital. He suddenly felt that the atmosphere seemed a little wrong. According to time estimation, the potioneer competition should end soon. This kind of all-Demon Realm competition was also a business opportunity. He remembered that Obsidian originally planned to hold a series of trade fairs, auctions, and other activities after that, but there was no trace of these at present. Even the mobile population had not increased significantly.
Chen Rui felt very puzzled and walked into a pub. After asking for a few glasses of the best wine, he had successfully “hooked up” with the succubus waiter in the pub.
“Potioneer contest?”
The succubus was surprised, “Haven’t you heard of such a big incident? The Royal Highness Regent announced 2 months ago that the potioneer contest will be postponed for one year. However, there is a new major incident. With permission from the Royal Highness Regent, the Red Spirit Estate joined forces with the Blue Lava Estate and launched the war of lords against the other estates. At present, the alliance of Red Spirit and Blue Lava has approached the Dark Moon.”
“What?” Chen Rui was extremely shocked. The war of lords!
According to the Demon Realm’s practice, when certain contradictions couldn’t be reconciled between the lords, they could be resolved by physical force. However, because it was an internal struggle in the empire, a special approval from the emperor was required.
Generally, the capital would send an envoy to work on the final mediation. In case the mediation failed, the role of envoy would become supervision to avoid excessive casualties. Generally speaking, even if one party won, they couldn’t kill the lord of the losing party. The losing lord would be handed over to the capital for the final judgement. The loser could cede the land for compensation, or even be imprisoned.
The reason for the Red Spirit Estate to launch the war of the lords was that the Dark Moon Lord Shea conspired to kill Joseph, who was the Dark Moon’s financial officer, in order to seize the industries of Joseph, the eldest son of the Red Spirit Lord and the “heir” of the estate.
Judging from this reason alone, it could indeed become a condition for launching a war of lords.
However, this was simply turning the facts upside down.
First of all, the reason for Joseph’s “killing” was to distort the facts. Joseph himself took the initiative to propose a bet at a regular meeting. The Dark Moon officials and family representatives could testify for it. No matter what strategic struggles happened in between, Demon Realm’s rule was that the winner ruled over the loser. It was indeed Joseph’s Red Cloak Team had lost in the end. It was tantamount to losing all the industries and the financial officer position.
Moreover, Joseph’s reason for death was due to his attempt to kidnap the little princess, Alice, so he was killed by Kia. It was his own responsibility. According to the rules, Josh should apologize to Shea.
Moreover, Joseph’s identity was not the heir of the Red Spirit Estate at all. The title was just a bargaining chip for the dead and an excuse for starting a war.
Regent Obsidian completely ignored Dark Moon’s protest and directly approved Josh’s request. The villain’s plot was obvious. Even many people could guess that this war was instructed by Obsidian.
The Dark Moon Estate had all fallen under the control of Princess Royal Shea. Its economic and military development had been rapid. Coupled with Obsidian’s own foolish decision, Shea had not been affected by the fundraising. Hence, she had long become the thorn in Obsidian’s flesh. While the Dark Moon was still in the early stage of stabilization, he would make use of this opportunity to destroy the Dark Moon’s viable power and wipe out this potentially dangerous bud in the infancy.
As long as the Red Spirit and Blue Lava won, even if they didn’t kill the Shea and her sister who were the descendants of the royal family, the thriving Dark Moon would definitely become an empty shell looted by the flames of war. Moreover, Obsidian would never let Shea go. She would even be imprisoned for life or even be killed secretly.
Even if he did not kill Shea and still gave her the title of a lord, all real authority would be shifted. She would become a veritable puppet.
This move was indeed sinister and vicious.
Although the details of Joseph’s death were not clear, Chen Rui had guessed that in addition to the potential threat that Obsidian wanted to use the Red Spirit and Blue Lava to defeat the Dark Moon, Obsidian also had the intention of using war to divert the public’s attention. He even wanted to plunder Dark Moon’s wealth to alleviate the urgent need for his huge deficit.
Although the Dark Moon’s military and combat capabilities had been greatly improved, it was still a weak aspect compared with the other 2 estates. Originally, Chen Rui expected it to take 3 years or so to increase the military power to disregard the major estates and even to the extent of confronting the capital head-on, but this sudden war was far beyond his expectations.
However, in addition to the surface military strength, the Dark Moon also had strong hidden power. In terms of individual combat effectiveness, the representatives were the Earth Elemental King and Paglio. The Red Spirit Lord Josh was only the middle stage of the Demon Emperor, and the Blue Lava Lord was probably not far away; In terms of overall military strength, there was Guradam’s undead army, as well as the earth elemental, medusa, tauren and wyvern groups. Once all of these strengths were used, it should be enough to defeat the Blue Lava and Red Spirit. However, once all these powers were exposed, it would probably attract attention from all parties. The most important thing was that this power was not in the hands of Shea. He must go back to mobilize them. Therefore, he must rush back to the Dark Moon Estate as soon as possible. Back to Athena and Kia. Back to Shea!
“Thank you, beautiful and charming lady. I will come and ask you out when I have time at night.” Facing the succubus waiter’s frequent flirty glances and physical temptation, Chen Rui said a sentence perfunctorily. As he was about to leave, a familiar voice sounded from behind.
“Night? Really?”
Chen Rui was shocked. It is Zola! She came here so soon? As expected...
Chen Rui slowly turned around and saw a graceful figure appearing behind him. This time Zola did not pretend to be the ugly appearance last time. The beautiful appearance and special temperament made the charming succubus suddenly look unattrative.
“Dear Simon, did you escape from the house just to have a private rendezvous with this wild woman?” The fairy dragon asked with a smile, but her voice was vaguely murderous.
Chen Rui was a little speechless. What is this? She’s even addicted to role-playing! Besides, I’m just an assistant, not your man. Even if I have a private rendezvous with any woman, it’s none of your business...
“About this... please listen to my explanation.”
“Let’s go home first, okay?” Zola seemed to be soliciting his opinions respectfully. In fact, Chen Rui knew very well that if he didn’t want to go back, he would definitely be knocked out and dragged back.
“Listen to me, I can’t go back now...”
Before he finished speaking, a loud voice sounded. It was a young man wearing a majestic metal armor. He was also followed by a brawny bodyguard. He was obviously the young master of a certain capital family.
“Beauty, he doesn’t want to go back with you. How about I go back with you? I’m much more useful than this guy. I’ll guarantee you...”
Before he finished speaking, his voice stopped abruptly. The majestic magic armor on his body was automatically distorted as if she wanted to twist the whole person into fried twisted dough. The poor young master brother even released painful screams before passing out in pain.
The brawny man was taken aback. He drew his sword and rushed toward Zola in a loud shout. Within 2 steps, he felt the sword in his hand had an unbearable high temperature. The sword suddenly dropped to the ground with a “ding” sound. The long sword turned into molten iron at a speed visible to the naked eye.
The brawny man was shocked. This is not just fancy armor, but a weapon of excellent grade!
From beginning to end, Zola didn’t look at them. She just stared at Chen Rui.
“Understood, I’ll go back with you first.” Chen Rui glanced at the dying young master, and he sighed. After this “experiment”, he had confirmed that Zola had placed a 4 yuan rune marks on him.
“Yuan” was the basic unit of the ancient runes. The higher the level, the more complicated it was. However, the 4 yuan rune mark was very sophiscated. Even if there was [Deep Analysis] information, it was very hard to remove it. No matter how troublesome it was, he had to get rid of it. He had already set up a star point in the capital area. If he couldn’t explain it properly, he could directly use the [Star Gate] to escape directly.
Rainbow Valley.
“Miss Zola, you are the most intellectual woman I have ever seen. You love knowledge, respect knowledge, beautiful, kind, and understanding...”
Hearing this man listed many of her advantages, Zola was dazed on the surface, but she felt sweet in her heart. Somehow, she started to like to listen to these “unscientific” sweet words. Of course, it was only limited to this man.
(Forget it, let’s just forgive him for sneaking out to seduce a wild woman?)
(That’s not right. It seems that his reason for going out has nothing to do with me? I seem to be just trying to get back a... uh, runaway experiment subject.)
“Now, there are several important people in my life who are in danger...”
Zola suddenly interrupted, “It’s more important than me... our experiment?”
“In a sense, they are more... as important as our experiment.” Chen Rui paused and said with a solemn expression, “If someone wants to destroy our experiment, what will Miss Zola do?”
Zola’s aura was very strong, “I’ll not let him go!”
Chen Rui took the opportunity to say, “Yes, I’m like this too. so I must leave to protect those who are very important to me. As long as this matter is resolved, I will return to the Rainbow Valley again to study and experiment with you. Trust me, miss. This is my most sincere request.”
Seeing Chen Rui’s eagerly anticipating eyes, Zola, who was still intending to make things difficult, couldn’t help but feel sorry. She didn’t fake daze anymore. She thought for a while, and finally nodded, “Okay...”
“Miss is really a reasonable person!”
Chen Rui was overjoyed. However, Ms. Fairy Dragon seriously said, “However, you have to help me complete the splitting of the 14 yuan rune.”
Yuan was the basic unit of ancient runes. This 14 yuan rune paragraph was the original paragraph that Chen Rui used to “copy” from the Sword of Fallen Angel using the same ancient rune method. It was also his gift for Zola at the Little Mirror Lake that day.
“Split?”
Zola nodded, “En. If you are away, it will be difficult for me to complete the splitting process smoothly. As for the subsequent experiment process, I can complete it independently.”
Splitting unknown runes was a work that requires considerable brainpower and technical content. Chen Rui had the skill of the [Deep Analysis] which could calculate and process those rune paragraphs extremely accurately. So in this aspect, Zola really couldn’t do without him.
However, in the process of splitting, there was a considerable chance that the activated rune would be induced to change. There would even be a great risk if one got it wrong.
Seeing Chen Rui still hesitating, Zola added, “Well, if you complete this split, I will remove the 6 yuan tracking rune mark on you.”
The 6 yuan mark? It’s more ruthless than the 4 yuan I imagined... Chen Rui secretly thought, If it is a 6 yuan mark, the time it takes to crack is definitely longer than splitting the 14 yuan paragraph. If I flee directly, the fairy dragon will definitely not let me go. She will use the mark to catch up.
“Alright, Miss Zola” Chen Rui nodded. “Time is running out. Let’s start right away.”
Hmmm, Zola was exceptionally “nice” there 🤔. Could she really feel his sincerity? Also could Chen Rui make it back in time?
