Chapter 508 - The Aerial Legion of the Capital
Chapter 508: The Aerial Legion of the Capital
Before Chen Rui left the Dark Moon, he planted a large number of Guardian Vines seeds on the walls of the Moonlight Fortress. Now, they appeared as a surprise factor which had received unexpected results.
With the assistance of Guardian Vines and the powerful shooting of Medusas and other archers, all the approaching enemy forces were cleared. Several army formations and the Demon Equip Legion suffered heavy injuries. Their pace of advancement involuntarily slowed down.
Gerant, the commander of the front army of the capital coalition army, looked a bit unsightly. He could almost feel the angry gaze coming from the large tent of the central army in the distance without turning his head.
Before the battle was over, the casualties were already far beyond expectation. The enemy only suffered a few casualties because the approaching archery on his side only managed to kill a handful of soldiers. By visual estimation, the number of people killed in battle was tens of thousands.
Gerant sighed secretly. In fact, his command had no mistake this time, but the Dark Moon brought too many “sudden changes” to the coalition army. These “sudden changes” were not accidental, but inevitable. Not to mention the Dark Moon, the fortress in front of me cannot be easily defeated.
Although encountering the present obstacles, it is not a problem for the army to conquer the Moonlight Fortress. It is just that Royal Highness Obsidian once said, we either don’t fight or wipe out the enemy with thunderous momentum. The casualties and battle conditions are so unexpected now. It is about the reputation of Royal Highness Regent. Even if we take down the fortress by then, it will be difficult to keep my position as the front commander and deputy commander of the coalition army.
However, Gerant quickly dispelled these distracting thoughts and focused his attention on the battlefield. He was a soldier. No matter what happens after the war, I will do my best to defeat the enemy on the battlefield!
“The fourth formation, prepare to dispatch! The Blood Flag Legion, Sharo Legion, standby! Messenger, immediately go to the central army’s tent to report to the Royal Highness Regent, requesting to dispatch the Flying Cloud Legion to quickly resolve the battle.”
Dispatch all main forces of the first army. Also, requesting for air support. Gerant was going all out this time. He wanted to break through the Moonlight Fortress’ defense in the shortest time.
The messenger’s request quickly reached the coalition army’s central commander’s tent. Obsidian sneered, “The Flying Cloud Legion? I’m afraid it’s not enough, right? Why not dispatch the Dragon Rider Legion too? With these strongest aerial legion support, I want to see how long it will take for the sir deputy commander to take down this little fortress?”
Obsidian knew clearly in his heart that Gerant’s command was not too much of a problem. It was just that Obsidian himself had stated publicly before the expedition that he would send troops to wipe out the Dark Moon this time. It was only the first checkpoint now, the Moonlight Fortress, but they had already lost so many soldiers before even going up the walls. Most of them were the army of the lords. Whether it was his reputation as the regent or his account to the lords, it was impossible to justify, so there must be someone to bear this responsibility.
If it was Shea, she would take the initiative to take the responsibility, but Obsidian was not Shea. What he needed was the prestige he believed, so this scapegoat could only be Gerant.
The 3 army formations and the Demon Equip Legion that initially attacked the city suddenly slowed down the attack after several failed attempts to climb the city wall. At this moment, the defenders of the Moonlight Fortress saw numerous dense black spots in the sky far away.
“The enemy’s aerial legion!” Athena’s expression became solemn, “There are so many of them!”
“This is the Flying Cloud Legion!” Nesta was the most familiar with the capital’s legion. While staring at it, he exclaimed, “Oh no! At the back... they even dispatched the Dragon Rider Legion! “
The Flying Cloud Legion was an air force composed of a large number of demonic beasts consisting mainly of mutated griffin. The number was more than 5,000 riders. They had superb combat skills and were good at siege. The Dragon Rider Legion was the dragon rider that rode on the wyverns. The combat effectiveness of 1,500 riders was very strong.
Athena frowned and said, “The Wyvern Legion has been standing by on the mountain behind. Our wyverns are similar to the enemy, but the griffin has only 1,000 riders which is an absolute disadvantage in terms of numbers.”
Nesta nodded, “The Dragon Rider Legion’s commander is called Salgar, who specializes in magic and martial arts. He is at the early stage of the Demon Overlord. His character is violent, and his combat power is strong. The Flying Cloud Legion’s commander is called Rometty, whose power level is similar to me. She is quite scheming and very difficult to deal with. There is also a very powerful manticore team under his command.”
“Why do you say so much?” A firm voice said, “Leave these guys to me.”
As soon as Athena and others turned their heads, they saw the beautiful girl’s firm eyes and resolute expression. The most resolute... was her tone, “Athena, remember to count the money for me.”
This sentence made Athena speechless, but she still knew the truth that there would be courageous dragons if there was a hefty reward. She nodded, “Then you go ahead and fight first. The Wyvern Legion will be here soon. The air force is difficult to deal with, I will double the price.”
The girl’s cool expression suddenly turned into a cheerful smile. She held Athena’s hand, “Athena, I know you are the best!”
“Be careful.” Athena knew that Olypheus was very powerful, but there were too many enemies. There was also the Demon Overlord powerhouse whom Ms. Black Dragon could not handle by herself. “Don’t be too greedy for more credits. Remember that the riders in black are on our side; don’t mix them up. Paglio, please go to the back mountain immediately.”
“Your money will be deducted if you attack the wrong side! If you really can’t hold on, I will go to the back mountain first. At that time, I may save your life for the sake of Little Betty.” Paglio, who had never spoken, uttered a sentence while holding a wine bottle. That casual expression didn’t seem to be bothered about the “black spots” that were gradually magnifying in the distant sky.
Previously, Olypheus was simply the nightmare of Master Poison Dragon. Paglio was really tense due to the godly stalking technique. It is rare that I can have a happy life since Little Betty is in closed doors training, but it is ruined in the claws of this Ms. Miser. I get all kinds of disturbances before even getting a treat. The relationship between Little Betty and Olypheus is getting closer and closer like good sisters and partners. There is also a terrifying madwoman behind them. The life of Master Poison Dragon is as bitter as it is. Now that I seize the opportunity, I naturally have to avenge my personal grievances, lest this chick still thinks that I am a doormat!
Ms. Black Dragon snorted to Master Poison Dragon and ignored him. Meanwhile, Roman who whispered to Nesta said, “I’ll deal with that Rometty later!”
Olypheus glanced at Roman with professional suspicion, “You seemed to be asking Nesta, is Rometty a beauty?”
This chick is too terrifying! It’s no wonder that Paglio treats her like an enemy. Roman’s cold sweat broke out. He quickly changed the subject by pointing to the approaching demonic beasts in the air and said, “They are here!”
The demonic beasts flying all over the sky were like a fast-moving black cloud, almost covering the light of the 2 moons. The sky was full of clamors. Before they flew over, they had caused heavy psychological pressure on the Dark Moon defenders..
The emergence of the “air force” caused the morale of the capital coalition army to skyrocket. Gerant immediately ordered the fourth army formation and the Blood Flag Legion to attack. The attack in front of the city wall began to become unprecedentedly fierce. Guardian Vines was no longer able to suppress them. The speed of regeneration couldn’t keep up with the speed of destruction, and their vitality gradually dried up.
Obsidian eyes narrowed slightly as he watched this scene from a distance. Based on the intel, the Dark Moon’s air force is at most 2,000 people. How could it compete with the 7,000 soldiers of the capital? There were 5 army formations on the ground, plus 2 major legions. With the two-way attack, the collapse of the Moonlight Fortress is a matter of time.
There was a figure in the sky above the Moonlight Fortress appeared in front of the black patch of “dark cloud” in an instant. The figure rushed up without fear. Compared with the “dark cloud”, this figure was insignificant. However, after the figure rushed in, the “dark cloud” was torn apart like a splitting wave. Along the way, the wyverns and griffins continued to fall down. Most of them were frightened by the breath exuded from this figure, so they dared not approach.
Standing on a mutated wyvern king without any armor was the Dragon Rider Legion commander, Salgar. He saw that the opponent was a young girl. He flew over with the mount, and channeled the magic power as he shouted, “Leave this woman to me. Everyone, attack the fortress!”
The surrounding dragon riders heard the order, divided into several teams and flew toward the Moonlight Fortress. Making money was Olypheus’ top priority, so she was not bothered to pay attention to Salgar at all as she followed the dragon riders. She flew much faster than the wyverns. Wherever she went, the wyverns were falling like rain.
These dragon riders and wyverns were all trained by Salgar. Seeing that the girl was killing them all the way, causing many casualties, he couldn’t help being furious. Several red fireballs appeared in his hands and they followed Olypheus as if they had eyes.
Olypheus was grabbing a wyvern’s wing which seemed to be caught off guard. Its back got burnt by the continuous fireball attacks. After the shock and sparks dispersed, the wyvern, whose wings were torn, burst into flames. Amidst the wailing, it directly plummeted with the dragon rider on its back.
Olypheus didn’t seem to see Salgar; she flew to another wyvern.
Salgar’s speed had always been a bit slower. Watching the dozen riders being slashed down by the girl, and she simply ignored him, a Demon Overlord powerhouse, he was even more in rage. The magic was coming out one after another from his hands, but unfortunately, they were futile.
In a hurry, Salgar launched a chain lightning. As a result, Olypheus was unscathed, but the 2 wyverns next to her were killed by the lightning.
Olypheus unceremoniously counted these 2 on her own account. Salgar was pissed off. Fortunately, the dragon rider team which was being chased by Olypheus was very quick-witted. They took Ms. Black Dragon around in a circle with the risk of being beheaded on the way to appear in front of Salgar.
When Salgar saw Olypheus finally approaching, he roared and rose into the air from the Wyvern King while waving his hands repeatedly. The riders in the distance only saw strange changes in the space near Salgar and Olypheus. It was like shattered pieces of glass forming a bizarre three-dimensional cube which enclosed both of them. The situation inside couldn’t be seen from the outside, and even the sound was cut off as if a translucent cube appeared out of thin air.
“The territory of space power?” Olypheus was slightly surprised as she looked at this strange space which was completely isolated from the outside. Countless translucent mirrors floated in the air inside.
“This is the space realm created with my talents and territory. In this territory, you will see powerful compound magic and even the long lost space magic.” Salgar sneered, “I used this to kill the intermediate stage of the Demon Overlord’s opponent before. Even if you are slightly stronger than me, you are not my opponent.”
“It’s just magic, why so much nonsense. Don’t delay me from making money!”
Olypheus’s disdainful contempt made Salgar furious. Countless flames burst out of his body. He wasn’t finished yet. In an instant, lightning, hurricanes, flames, ice and snow filled the entire territory. After these magics were refracted and reflected when they hit the “mirror”, their speed and magnitude suddenly increased; all the magics shot toward Olypheus.
Boom boom boom! There were violent impacts and explosion sounds. A figure shot out and punched Salgar. The punch hit Salgar who then shattered suddenly, but the broken one was just... a mirror!
“You can actually withstand my magic head-on. You are indeed a powerhouse of the intermediate stage of the Demon Overlord. You should have a special talent for defense right? Unfortunately, in this territory, you can’t touch me.” Salgar’s figure appeared on the other side again. Olypheus reacted extremely quickly. She appeared in front of Salgar abruptly. With another blow, the mirror shattered again.
“It’s useless!” Salgar’s laughter echoed in the territory. For a while, countless figures appeared around Olypheus. While moving, the initially shattered mirrors were restored, and various powerful attack magic appeared again. “The magic will get stronger and stronger in this space. When your talents are exhausted, you will be crushed!”
When Olypheus was trapped in Salgar’s territory, the Flying Cloud Legion and the Dragon Rider Legion had already reached the city wall. The arrows was shot upward like rain, but the demonic beasts in the air were flying fast. Therefore, even if the Medusas were equipped with armor-piercing arrows, it was not so easy to shoot a griffin with a few arrows.
The soldiers on the griffin started shooting arrows downward while the wyverns directly attacked the defending soldiers with their claws and teeth. The capital coalition army under the city launched a fierce attack at the same time. A siege ladder successfully appeared on the wall, and the soldiers below braved the Guardian Vines and rain of arrows to climb the ladder desperately.
When a great demon was halfway up the ladder, he activated his teleport talent and instantly appeared on top of the wall. As soon as he stood firm, he was directly facing a pair of snake-like vertical pupils. He felt his body was numb and began to stiffen up quickly. Before he completely turned into a stone, he was cut in half by the minotaur beside the Medusa with an axe.
The number of siege ladders being erected gradually increased, and more and more enemy troops were on the wall. The archers were forced to retreat and focused on throwing projectiles. The melee soldiers charged bravely and started hand-to-hand combat. The most troublesome was the attacks from the air which was difficult to defend against.
“Hold the line!” Athena threw the Judgement Greatsword in her hand which drew an arc in the air and cut off the left wing of a wyvern that was about to attack the soldiers. When it flew back, she grasped and slashed it again quickly. A griffin that was approaching was cut into half, “Our Wyvern Legion is coming!”
As soon as she finished, there was a vague hissing sound of wyvern from the rear. The reinforcements finally came!
A huge figure which was faster than these wyverns suddenly appeared in the sky. This figure suddenly let out a roar which sounded through the entire battlefield. Above the Moonlight Fortress, the wyverns and griffins, who were flaring their teeth and claws, trembled at the same time. They scattered all around in shock. The weaker griffins that were closer were even frightened by the roar that their wings became feeble and fell to the ground from mid-air.
In the coalition army far away, Obsidian’s complexion changed slightly. Dragon! And its strength is quite strong!
The peak stage of the Demon Overlord!
Could Olypheus find a way to breach the opponent’s mirror territory?
