Chapter 606 - The Hidden Misty Island
Chapter 606: The Hidden Misty Island
When Chen Rui woke up from the recovery period of the [Royal Star Transformation], the Devil’s Snare Ship was only about a day away from the Hidden Misty Island.
The Devil’s Snare Ship suffered a certain degree of damage during the first battle. Fortunately, Chen Rui’s storage warehouse contained a large number of materials. Thanks to the efforts of the sandmen, it was basically repaired and various energies were also supplemented.
A day later, the mysterious Hidden Misty Island finally appeared in front of everyone.
This horseshoe-like island was smaller than the Thunder Snake Island. It was filled with dense mist for dozens of kilometers which made it almost impossible to see things. It was indeed worthy of the Hidden Misty name. If it was not for Adeline’s special spirit sensing, the exact location might not be found even if they were close to this area.
Thinking of the magic herbs on the mystical island, Strena was full of expectations. What happened back then had troubled her mind for many years. She couldn’t return the talent of [6 Wield] to Adeline, but she must try to heal her sister’s eyes.
Taking into account the previous warning from Octopus King, Chen Rui commanded the ship to bypass the nearby reef carefully and chose a sandbank close to the shore of the island. At this time, there were still 3 days before the meeting period mentioned by the Dark Elemental King. The range of this island is not small, I wonder if the Dark Elemental King has arrived with his airship.
Behind the sandbank was a lush forest. Chen Rui kept the Devil’s Snare Ship and let the sailors camp and rest on the shore. He led Dodo, a dark elemental and a water elemental, to explore the forest to look for the whereabouts of the Dark Elemental King.
Strena wanted to go together, but since she was the second greatest combat power here, she stayed after considering that Adeline and sailors needed protection.
Chen Rui carefully explored the forest with the 3 of them. The forest was very large and the mist was very dense. Fortunately, the water elementals had the power to control the water element. Wherever they passed, the mist became much thinner. There were many unknown strange plants growing in the forest in which even the ‘plant gourmet’ Dodo, who had the bloodline memory, couldn’t name. However, the slime had learned the lessons of gluttony a few times before, so he didn’t dare to wander again this time. He followed his master’s footsteps, but he secretly tried some fruits along the way.
They did not encounter any enemy in this exploration. The journey was unimpeded, but Chen didn’t notice anything. Despite the greenery, there was no living animal in the forest; there was a strange atmosphere of death.
Seeing that the sky was getting darker, Chen Rui intended to retreat from the original road to the forest for safety purposes. However, the forest had undergone a strange change at this time. They actually couldn’t find a way to return. The whole direction was chaotic. The more they retreated, the deeper they were in the forest.
Chen Rui immediately stopped and flew into the air. The strange thing was that the woods surrounding the mist grew steadily as he rose, always surrounding him.
Chen Rui realized that there was something wrong with the forest. He rapidly condensed the power of his entire body and got ready to attack the enemies that appeared at any time. When he suddenly saw Dodo and the 2 water elementals walking out in 3 directions in a daze, he hurriedly shouted, “Don’t wander, get together first!”
Although his voice was loud, Dodo and the 2 elementals didn’t seem to hear him. They continued to walk forward. Dodo looked very happy as he jumped up and down. Sometimes he opened his mouth wide, and sometimes he laid on the ground with his transformed legs. The expressions of the 2 elementals were different. The water elementals shouted in horror, but no sound was heard. The other dark elemental was drowsy and almost fell to the ground while walking.
Chen Rui was secretly shocked as the [Analytical Eyes] did not show any strange enemies. He immediately flew toward Dodo carefully. However, no matter how he flew, there was always a fixed distance from the nearby Dodo. He couldn’t get close as if the slime was a circle center, no matter how hard he tried, he could only circle around the center.
“An unidentified spirit power intrusion is found. Turn it into auras?” A warning sound came from the Super System. Chen Rui recovered his senses suddenly. As he recalled what happened in the ancient alchemy civilization stronghold, he blurted out, “Illusion?”
Chen Rui’s spirit power had reached the level of the peak stage Demon Overlord, but he was not aware of this illusion at all. Even after the Super System turned the invading spirit power into aura, the scene in front of him remained unchanged.
It was the first time that he saw such a powerful illusion. Is it a real illusion or the power of the territory kingdom?
His mind shifted, and the God-Eating Mask appeared on his face. He immediately activated the [God Eater] skill. In an instant, the mouth of the mask opened and devoured all nearby mists like a whale sucking water.
This was the ability of the God-Eating Mask- devouring all spirit power, magic and soul attacks.
Sure enough, after the mist disappeared, the forest seemed to have returned to its original state. Chen Rui did not circle around Dodo now. He reached out and grabbed the slime.
“Bold servant! How dare you interrupt Master Dodo’s meal!”
Master Slime, who was still immersed in a wonderful illusion, raised his brows. When he was about to yell at the servant, he was struck hard on his head. As soon as he woke up, he found out that it was his master. He hurriedly said with flattery, “Master, I found out the enemy’s logistics warehouse. In order to effectively attack the enemy, I...Uh, no! Your humblest servant ate all their food with the risk of being blown up!”
It seemed that the slime hadn’t fully awakened from the dream of stealing food from “the enemy’s warehouse”, but Chen Rui didn’t have the time to explain too much. The 2 elementals also returned to normal. Perhaps because of the God-Eating Mask, they did not encounter such an illusion along the way. The group quickly withdrew to the sandbank from the woods.
As soon as they arrived at the sandbank, he saw Strena leading the nagas to surround the tents in a defensive formation like they were facing a terrifying enemy.
“Captain! You’re finally back! Are you okay?” Chen Rui’s arrival made Strena look relieved.
“I have encountered some problems, but they have been resolved.” Chen Rui frowned slightly, “Strena, is there something going on here?”
Strena nodded solemnly, “After we set up the tents, I arranged a naga and a water elemental to patrol nearby, but they did not return for a long time. When I led the people to search, I found their corpses on the other side of the beach. Their deaths are very strange. There were no signs of fighting around nor injuries on their bodies... Captain, come and see!”
Chen Rui followed Strena to the open space on the side. The 2 corpses were in a very strange posture as Strena said. 1 of the water elementals, Lantra, who was with him, came forward and looked at the corpse of the comrade with a strange expression, “Sir Aguile, judging from the state of Landyla’s death, it seems that she was burned to death by flame power. She should have encountered an enemy who is proficient with fire elements. It’s strange that there are no traces of burns on his body.”
Chen Rui looked suspiciously at the corpses of the water elemental that had somewhat melted. The water elementals would automatically evaporate and disappear after dying for 24 hours. The corpse of naga by the side did not have this change. The expression on the dead naga looked terrified. Her snake body curled up in a ball like she was frozen to death. Similarly, no real frostbite was found on her body.
“Adeline said that she faintly sensed that a dangerous and special force was watching us, so I asked the nagas to be on guard at any time.
Chen Rui frowned tightly, revealing a thoughtful look. Burning? Frozen? A powerful magician enemy? But there are no scars on the surface of the skin. Could it be that the fire or ice ‘burned’ from the mind?
He suddenly thought of a report he had read in his previous life about brain consciousness and illusion. A man was mistakenly locked in a cold room storing frozen food, and his body was found the next day. He looked like he was frozen to death, but the strange thing was that the cold storage did not cool down on that day. It was a relatively normal temperature which was not enough to cause death.
Scientists had discovered through research that the man should be thinking that he would be frozen to death in the sub-zero temperature. As a result, this subjective consciousness produced an increasingly cold illusion which led to the cessation of brain activity and ultimately real death.
Thinking of the powerful illusion encountered in the forest, Chen Rui finally understood. It must be so! The ‘force’ that Adeline said must have the great power to manipulate illusion and soul. It could use illusion to cause death of the soul. That’s why there are no wounds on the surface when the water elemental was ‘burned to death’ and the naga was ‘frozen to death’.
No wonder the Octopus King Red Pipit said ‘firm faith.” It is for this guy who controls the illusion. I can only get rid of the danger by using a strong spirit power to free myself from the illusion.
Although the power of the God-Eating Mask is very precise, I have already activated it once in the forest. The next time it can be used is 7 days later. The other party’s whereabouts are mysterious and unpredictable. Even [Analytical Eyes] can’t detect it (It is most likely remote controlling which exceeds the sensing range of [Analytical Eyes]). We can only cautiously guard against itat the moment. After meeting with the Dark Elemental King, I will try to deal with or get rid of this enemy.
A ring appeared on Chen Rui’s finger. It was the first ‘gift’ Shea gave him. Lucifer Royal Family’s secret treasure, ‘Dark Will’ which could resist different kinds of spirit power interference to a certain extent. It could also launch a random teleport once a day.
At the beginning, this ring saved Chen Rui’s life several times. As his strength grew, the role of the ring became less and less. It was more of a precious souvenir. When he wore this ring now, he seemed to see that tenderness in the pair of cold purple eyes again. He could not help feeling warm.
In addition to Dark Will, the God-Eating Mask was immune to all soul manipulations. Chen Rui was not afraid with these 2 plus the Super System, but it was very dangerous for Strena and the sailors. He didn’t know if the other party had any other offensive ability besides illusion. Therefore, he must not take it lightly.
Chen Rui put forward his own speculation, “The enemy has the terrifying ability to manipulate the soul and mind. We are currently in a passive situation, and we can only guard against the situation when we cannot take the initiative. It will soon be dark and the situation is likely to be even worse. Lantra, you are responsible for burying the corpse; Strena, you distribute the food, then arrange the selection of the night guard. We shall lead the team. I’ll handle the first half of the night, and you handle the second half. I will go to the tent to set up a protective magic circle now. I hope we can survive the test of the night safely.”
The water elementals and the female naga warriors showed a solemn expression and nodded seriously.
TL: The opponent doesn’t seem serious; the initial illusion could just be a warning. What will they face at night?
